where semahore signals are stil in use i have seen this token in a leather pouch on a round hoop being handed to and thrown form locomotives on various historic tran dvd's i have . i never knew what the token actually looked like . this is in the hands of the signal man of birdhill station who was about to hand it to the driver of our rail tour .

 

Taken at the Museum of Alaska Transportation and Industry. I remember Signal Gas from growing up in Southern California.

 

There are some antique gas pumps in the background.

The Wells to Walsingham Light Railway. Trains aren't my thing, but this is the rather lovely signal box, at Wells station.

I've seen this signal fly (Rivellia sp.) resting on a leaf.

You just never know when or where that Bat Signal will appear.

Integral part of the signalling system at Crowcombe Heathfield station. The temptation to pull on it was quite strong :)

The socket of the Signals Mortar has a keyway for a mortar tube. Three inch mortars were known to have been used on airfields elsewhere (RAF Harrowbeer). Etched around the rim is the legend "MORTAR SIGNAL ML[?] 3 INCH" and at the bottom "1942".
