Signals at Wembley Hill station - 1970

This is the description of how to use a double-sided signal mirror from the US Air Force publication:

"Search and Rescue Survival Training", AF Regulation 64-4, Vol. 1, pp. 465-466, 15 July 1985.

This should be public domain in the US, as a work of the US Government, but use at your own risk.

I did modify the original by:

- rearranging the text and figures to fit this aspect ratio

- correcting the label on Figure 24-9 (that said "180 degrees" to the "90 degrees" in the main text

- added the citation at bottom left.

In any event, I make no copyright claim to it - you are free to use it w/o attribution - any copyrights my modifications may have accrued, I donate to the public under the CC0 license.

Searchlight type signals have been falling on most Class 1 railroads as the industry installs positive train control systems and upgrades its block signals. But on the Bessemer Subdivision of Canadian National, the searchlight signal is still a common fixture. The back of one signal head is shown in Greenville, Pennsylvania, near the former passenger station.

A view taken on 27th September 2012 of the signal box at the now-closed Knockcroghery railway station, northwest of Athlone and southeast of Roscommon, Ireland. This is on the former Midland & Great Western Railway Dublin to Westport/Ballina line. The station opened on 13 February 1860 and closed on 17 June 1963. The signal box, which dates from 1904 and is of MGWR origin, is still in place, but is now in residential use.

Grade II listed signal box (Rhondda Branch Junction signal box) closed in 1998 and now boarded up is a modified version of McKenzie and Holland's type 3 design built between the Taff Vale Railway main line to the right and the Rhondda Branch to the left in 1902 controlling 230 levers.

Up on Signal Hill in Saguaro National Park's Tucson Mountain District.

The hill is inscribed with Hohokam art but not too much of it is available, the Park Service clearly doesn't want us exploring. In the rocky area below the most interesting art (not posted here) there's a small sign saying "Rattlesnake Area". It could be just a way of getting us to stay out but it really does look like a place rattlers would be hanging out so ... no sense messing around, the photo wouldn't be worth it :^)

After being preserved by the locals best ability.

The Signal du Lure, the little sister of Ventoux

This photo appeared in the 7 April, 1934 edition of The Sphere.

A relic from the days of the Charleroi interurban line, this signal was still active in 1994.
