. . . and a red light. I am not sure where this signal used to stand. It could have been on the Sandusky District or the Fort Wayne Line as both are properties of the former Pennsylvania Railroad.

I got this signal on my 16th birthday (December 28), it hasn't been wired up yet. It is a McCain. This came from the same antique store where my first signal came from. I do not know if I'm going to restore it, I have not decided yet. This signal has a damaged lens (shown in this photo). I haven't decided on replacing the lens yet.

Pacifastacus leniusculus.

An invasive species in the UK, the fungal "crayfish plague" that they carry has wiped out the native "white-clawed crayfish" in most regions of the UK.

They can be identified by their large size when fully grown, their claws are larger in comparison to body size with turquoise/white markings at the hinge and bright orange/red colour under the claws.

The end of the good weather! So my final bike camping trip of the year. Rode out from the MAX in Hillsboro to Stub Stewart State Park, 22 miles one way. The night was cold, and the campsite empty, but Chris met me out there. The next day I decided to ride the whole way home, summitting the West Hills via NW Thompson.

This old signal is in the North Conway station of the railroad. If the balls are high, there are no orders await them at the station (or any other reason to slow) and they are free to "highball" through town. Note the semaphore signals to the far right.

West End of Alpine Siding control point at 185.67. I used to install and maintain signals when I started working on Conrail, back before I went into the shops. In 1999 Conrail was split up between NS and CSXT for the most part (there are a couple of areas where it serves as a switching connection for NS and CSXT), and I'm long retired. But I do miss the work.

No Corrections.

Joliet Union Station, looking south towards the lone surviving Rock Island (now CSX) track plus one of two classic signal bridges over the BNSF & UP tracks. There also once was one over the former Rock Island tracks but it was removed decades ago when it was downgraded to a single track from the three (four?) that once ran alongside Joliet Union Station.

Our site was located next to a pair of signals, so we always knew which track a train was approaching on (even though we could see them from miles away). They are approach-lit (only light if there is a train in the block before them) and when one lites the other displays an advance approach indication (flashing yellow), presumably to confirm that it is working.

If anyone has better information on why it would flash yellow when there is nothing in the block I'd be interested to know!

Severn Valley Railway Volunteers - Signal Box.

Brocklesby station and signal box sseen just before closure of the box in October 2015 just before York ROC took over control of the area.

The box is a curiosity, not only is it sunk into the island platform but its panel was intended as an emergency one that could switch in and out as required. The box was to close and Ulceby would have taken over the immediate area, however Brocklesby Signal Box remained and the panel took its place within the huge box, whose levers were removed and the frame boarded over, but it still remained beneath.

UPDATE: This signal (thank god!) has finally been replaced with a new Aldridge brand LED signal in July 2012. I was very glad how it lasted and was the responsibility of the local council and not the Department for Transport, Energy & Infrastructure.

A further box visit back in October 2015 was Ulceby Signal Box.

Ulceby had evolved to cover quite a significant area compared with its original area. It had a reduced frame and an IFS panel. There was also room for a panel to cover Brocklesby but this never happened.

Sadly the box was demolished with undue haste following closure, before the local S&T even had time to recover equipment for spares, the box coming down with everything still in place.

More pictures of the yellow Eagle signals in Bernard Street, outside Cheltenham Secondary College. These signals are still in use as of early 2013, and also still light up red and amber before green. Note the label 'G+W Eagle Signal Company of Australia' and the attachment of the target board behind the signal instead of around it.
