The new home signal installed by ARTC at Botany. It authorises entry to the Port Botany terminal complex. The main signal is fixed at red, authority to enter the terminal is given by a subsidiary shunt signal (small yellow).
Although located in coastal Sydney, the signals at Botany are now controlled from the country town of Junee, about 480 km or 300 miles away by rail!
Biggar signal box is a type S4 signal box built by the Caledonian Railway in 1906 and is listed category "B" by Historic Scotland. It is situated at the eastern end of the station complex at Biggar. The station closed in 1950 and the signal box in 1959. The station buildings, signal box, platforms, railway cottage and goods shed survive but unfortunately a house has been built over the western end of the station.

Weaverthorpe Signal Box was built in 1873 and is a rather odd looking building. It is located 4 or 5 miles from Weaverthorpe itself and is located on the York - Scarborough line between Malton and Seamer. The gates also seen in the photo are still worked by a wheel mechanism located inside the box. It has a frame of 16 levers dating from 1933 and the box is now a listed structure.
It is also a good location for photos:

Manually operated signal, protecting the branch line Les Planches - Sepey of the narrow-gauge railway Aigle - Les Diablerets (Switzerland), 1984
This signal arm is genuine, but the rest - post, control rods and all - are a purely a decorative construct. The "signal" stands on the National Cycle Route 647 close to Fledborough Railway viaduct in Nottinghamshire. The cycle path follows the track bed of the former railway line across the River Trent at Fledborough (closed in the early 1980s), hence the signal.

Doubt Canning Street North signal box will see trains again, dating from 1900 the box supervised trains into Bidston Dock in Birkenhead.
I hate it when people don’t use turn signals. I’m sorry, it just drives me nuts. Now if you’re in the middle of nowhere at a stop sign and don’t use your turn signal, who are you really going to influence or annoy? A cow? A Crow? Who cares? But in the city it’s a different story.
For me, turn signals are a courtesy to tell people around you “here’s what I’m doing so you can do what you need to do…” And when people can’t take that .5 seconds to hit the signal it just comes off as rude. It’s almost as if you’re saying “I’m too busy to do this… even though it’d really help you out.”
It’s hard coming up behind people who are about to pull out onto a really busy road. If they’re turning left and crossing four lanes of traffic, versus turning right and only having to enter one lane, odds are they’re going to be sitting there a long time. People who are turning right could go to another exit point- but we’re all left guessing because the person turning can’t seem to use their signal. Nice, buddy.
This is one where I wouldn’t just say it’s about turn signals- but bad drivers in general… and there are plenty of them here in San Antonio, and plenty of busy roads.

Staff Sgt. Hoang Nguyen, a 25N Nodal Network Systems Operator-Maintainer with the 40th Division Signal Co., out of Long Beach plots his next point. The 2013 California Army National Guard Best Warrior Competition is being held at Camp San Luis Obispo Sept. 10-13, 2012. So far the physical fitness and readiness tests are done. Day land navigation is happening right now. The troops have three hours to find as many of the seven points available on their personal map course. Each troop starbursts from the starting point, sometimes crisscrossing e...ach other or could end up at opposite ends of this vast course. Competitors are not allowed any assistance, GPS devices or smartphones. It is critical they get to know the terrain, as they will return later for the night portion where only three points need to be found. (Army National Guard photo/Master Sgt. Paul Wade)

This controlled a pair of signals on the MacArthur bridge. I bought it from TRRA and they gave me the original GRS paper work from when it was installed in Dec 1939. I started rewiring the cabinet and then moved it and dropped it off the fork lift. Thats why the relays are broken and I have replaced them once, I used the same coils and relay tags but new contacts and bakelite base.
This is the start of the Signal Hill Fire clearly visible from the house. This was a ripper that traveled several miles quickly. We had helicopters, water scooping planes and retardant planes including the DC 10. I've never seen such a confused air space and those guys were awesome in the orchestration of this whole debacle. More pics coming. Not part of the Carlton Complex fire but we were glad the crew is in the valley.
