In an extreme effort to capture the Grand Tetons in a different way (and because it was so foggy in Jackson we couldn't even see the Tetons), my friend Joe and I deiced to go above the clouds and look back down. It took optimism to believe such a vantage point even existed, lots of convince store crackers and good snowshoes, but we made it happen. It was -23 degrees. (note: this is Not from Snake River Overlook, but from the Sawtooth range about 1.5 hours from Jackson via car and then some snowshoeing) The Tetons looked Huge from here climbing out of the clouds and I still can't believe I've never seen an image from this spot!! More to come....

When the temperature rises, white is quickly transforming into gray.
About:
This is a bridge that crosses the main highway going through Oslo east-west. The highway is of course very well cleared of snow by huge plow trucks. The spray snow and dirt all the way up on the bridge, creating this mess :))
The perspective can fool you a little :)) This is not shot horizontally, but on on the stairs on the way up to the bridge :))
Photo:
- Canon 40D
- Canon 17-55mm f/2.8
- RAW exposures converted to DNG
- 1/180 sec at f/8 ISO100 17mm (35mm eq: 27mm)
Post Processing:
I tweaked the contrast/highlights/shadows/saturation a little. Then I converted the shot into B&W and added a greenish tone to the highlights and a yellow tone to the shadows. Finally a crop.
Thanks

About:
This was shot on the shortest day back in December, Ludo, my Alaskan Husky, don't like to sit model, but I got this shot of him with the kayak in the background. Now we're moving fast towards the long summer nights, time flies by...
The ice is gone from Oslo fjord now and the kayaks are back in the water :))
Thanks
Comments and critique are as always welcome. Let me hear your opinion, why do you like this, or even better, how would you approach this scenery. Give me your thoughts... not just a Wow!... only then I can improve :))

I'm excited to announce that I've won 2016 USA Landscape Photographer of the Year with my image of Mount Rainier, "Volcanic Autumn". I also had a couple images highly commended. Some of the world's best landscape photographers were on the judging panel, so it's an honor for them to have rated one of my favorite images so highly, out of thousands of entries from 40+ countries. (See winners gallery here.)
I've been on the road working on a completely different image project, which I'm eager to show you later this month. And watch out for my first processing video release in December! If you'd like to keep up with these things, I've added a mailing list signup to this page and to my website.
Sometimes I shoot so wide and just let the chips (and light) fall where they may.

Ashness Bridge in the Fog. Lake District, Cumbria - 54°34'1" N 3°7'48" W
Yet another image from a rather foggy weekend in mid December 2017. I was heading down from taking a number shots from Surprise View, some of which I have already posted, when I decided to take a quick look at what the bridge had to offer in terms of composition. It was tricky to see if there was a shot available due to how thick the fog was. However, it was constantly changing. I grabbed my gear from the car and setup the shot. This was the best of the several different compositions I photographed.

After a cold spring night brought a substantial snowfall to the mountains of British Columbia’s Southern Interior, a mother Great Grey Owl comforts one of her three waking chicks.
Photographed in 2017 during an eight day stint in a camouflaged tree stand, 15 metres up a Douglas fir. After ascending pegs and branches coated in snow and ice on this particular morning, it was a relief to harness myself in upon arrival at my tiny blind.

This was shot a little over a month ago during a one day trip to Mount Baker, with my pal Jeff. We were hoping for a better sky that what we had, but hey, you have to work the scene regardless, right!?!
Having said that, I came away with a couple of shots that I am pretty happy. "Alpenglow", which you can see on my website here: www.howard-snyder.com/Gallery/Mountains/i-fHWQD24/0/L/Las... and now this one.
Remember that I am offering 20% discount on private post processing sessions until the end of July, PM if interested. Thank you!
I promise you, the days are getting longer and it will get warmer... I hope... Can someone send some of that Global Warming my way!!!

About:
This is shot shortly after the sun set on a awesome sunny day with no clouds at all :)) The foreground is a small ice crystal that refuged too melt, the background is the ice covered fjord with the last sunbeams on the top :))
When the Canon 70-200m lens is on the 68mm Kenko Extension Tubes, you have only a couple of centimeters within focus range. I wanted the sunset to be reflected in the shot, so I had to get all the way down on my stomach in the snow to get this shot, :))
