You won't regret it....

Awoke this morning to some mist across Ullswater so, I grabbed my gear, jumped in the car and explored what image opportunities there were along the west shore. I was pleased to have grabbed a few shots and this is the first of them.

I wanted to begin by saying that it's been a rough week, but as soon as I typed those words, I was struck again by how privileged my life as a white female has been: a rough week .

I donated this week to the Movement for Black Lives (m4bl.org/). I signed a petition (act.colorofchange.org/signup/state-emergency-black-people...), and I've wept watching interviews and the protests, thinking things must change. But that won't be enough.

So while I might return to posting doll portraits or zany stories, my mind and heart will not forget. I will continue to find ways to help and listen.

thx to everyone!

The rolling hills of the Palouse continue to provide inspiration and photographic opportunities since my first visit about a dozen years ago. This is simply one of many views in the Palouse region.

Join me and David M. Cobb Photography in early August 2023 for the harvest season in the Palouse. Contact me with any questions or visit my website to signup. There are only a few spots left.

Ancient Redwoods grow in few places in the world. They are some of the oldest living beings on our planet. We are blessed in California to have several groves that grow along the coastal region of the state, where they can benefit from regular fog rolling in from the ocean.

I'm hosting an Open Studio Week this week in my Lafayette, CA home. It is by appointment only. If you are interested in seeing my newest printed pieces, message me. I'll send you a link to the details and signup page.

We just concluded a couple of spectacular weeks in the Palouse. And did we have some amazing conditions! Subscribe to our newsletter and stay abreast with 2022 workshop dates!

Bugio Fort

The original name of this 16th century fortress was Saint Lawrence of the Dry Head, It was built to defend th entrance to the Tagus estuary. Its rounded walls increased its capacity to withstand gunfire and are typical of teh Renaissance penchant for the geometrical forms thought at the time to be the most perfect.

It's almost time again for Milky Way season in the Southwest! I'm excited to go down and start another string of workshops. I just want to give a shoutout to all my incredible instructors and staff!

Are you born to be WILD? It's been a lot of fun on our Wild Horses adventure and working with participants on new techniques. Conveying motion in a photograph is difficult but powerful if done successfully. Panning is wonderful technique to add that dynamism and emotion. Shot at a very low shutter speed, panning gives a blurred background and an implied sense of movement. The real trick is keeping the head of your subject as sharp as you can. Get on our email list and join us in 2024.

"Colors burst in wild explosions

Fiery, flaming shades of fall

All in accord with my pounding heart

Behold the autumn-weaver

In bronze and yellow dying

Colors unfold into dreams

In hordes of a thousand and one

The bleeding

Unwearing their masks to the last notes of summer

Their flutes and horns in nightly swarming

Colors burst within

Spare me those unending fires

Bestowed upon the flaming shades of fall."

Langstrath Beck running through Langstrath Valley. Lake District, Cumbria - 54°30'5" N 3°7'44" W

I was happy that I was able to pull out the spotlight from the sun in the image as shooting directly into the sun is always a challenge and I had to stack a couple ND Grad filters to hold back the sky. I also deliberately left the Polariser switched off to highlight the beck.

Another shot from yesterdays quick trip out down Ullswater West Shore. With this shot the sun started to really break through the cloud and was a real struggle to hold back the light. Not sure I managed it but there is only so many filters you can try and stack and a 8 sec exposure didn’t help the sky either. I managed to reduce it slightly in post in Lightroom. However, I was very happy with how the green moss came out on the stump.

I finally made it up to the Bay Area for a weekend!!

The weather conditions were all lined up for a low fog event on Saturday morning, so I woke up at 3AM and parked myself in the cold for hours to capture this. I hiked a little ways to avoid all the common vantage points, so hopefully this is something fresh!

All you peeps who live up there are so, so, so spoiled... I almost cried when I saw a scene this beautiful.

I met up with Matt Walker and Huggen Angeles on this trip... both of them are awesome and you should definitely check out their stuff!

Los Angeles Photo Workshop, November 16: more info and signup here! 2 spaces left.

Donations of any amount are welcome -- I was so lucky to receive a few last week that have allowed me to take three trips this quarter that I wouldn't have otherwise been able to. This was one of them!

Truly, I need 3 accounts: One for my kid stuff, one for my more normal portraits, and one for my dark side. In my head, they all play well together, but it doesn't make for much of a cohesive portfolio, lol.

How can we find beauty in the weapons that killed so many of the great creatures on this earth?
