Because ampersands deserve to be written in light

For these shots I had images from Shetland Islands and Orkney Islands from very rugged terrain that would have filled the bill here. I kept that thought as a back-up plan in case Columbus, Ohio, disappointed. In the end I chose to ‘stay in the present’ and produce all of these in Columbus, Ohio.

The waterfall images were created at Hayden Run Falls, Columbus, Ohio. Went on Monday and it was completely dry - not even a drip. It rained most of the day Tuesday. I stopped Wednesday evening and found this.

Intent: Produce Stack Image for submission. I have never produced a ‘stacked image’ before, so this was a learning exercise. I thought if the waterfall was there, would the silky look of a very long exposure (1 second or more) be best - or did I need to capture drops with a much faster shutter speed. In the end I produced both, and chose the faster shutter speed to produce this stacked image.

Success: Yes

PostProcessing: This is created from three source images. Put the three of them into ACR and adjusted one and then synchronized all 3. Opened in Photoshop, selected all three,

Edit->AutoBlend. When it completed gathered the result as one image, put into ACR and did final adjust of exposure. Added just a touch of clarity. Removed noise and sharpened.

Experimenting with longer shutter speeds and this one came out pretty nice.

Christmas Lights can make for some interesting wave patterns if you adjust your shutter speed and move your camera in a horizontal direction. Next time I plan on trying some different movements and shutter speeds.

Shutter Speed:1/160

Aperture: F/14

I shot this photo at a pond near my apartment. I shot it right before the sun went down. I think the photo came out pretty well. The contrast is a little off, but other than that I think it came out well

The shutter speed here is very high, capturing movement almost freezing it.
