Narrative. Narrative! NARRATIVE!
I went for a walk in nature recently and came across a man shouting Narrative! Narrative! Narrative!
I enquired as to what was distressing him so.
His dog had run away from him and wouldn't come back.
I enquired why he was shouting "Narrative!". It turned out that was the name of his dog.
I pointed out that he had lost control of his own narrative...
He seemed less than pleased.

A Tule Elk cow seems to be shouting that to the bull who didn't understand that the rut was long over. We watched this bull go through all the typical rut behavior even though breeding season generally lasts from August through September. He had a harem of about 18 cows and kept them gathered in a tight group. Other bulls in the area were peacefully hanging together and separate from groups of cows.
We certainly didn't expect to see rut behavior in January but it was a blast to watch. I have another couple of Tule Elk images to be posted later, our first encounter with this subspecies. We have now bagged all four surviving North American elk subspecies (Manitoban, Rocky Mountain, Roosevelt and Tule).
This subspecies once roamed a large portion of the state, but due to hunting pressures and large scale cattle farming they were nearly brought to extinction in the late 1800s. In 1874, fewer than 30 animals remained in a single herd near Bakersfield, which were discovered by a rancher named Henry Miller. All of the estimated 4,000 plus Tule elk present in California today derived from this small remnant herd, thanks to initial conservation efforts. There are now 12 wild, free roaming herds in California in addition to 3 fenced, captive herds.

Shouting in the street, gonna take on the world someday
You got blood on your face, you big disgrace
Waving your banner all over the place
We will, we will rock you, sing it!
A bird that is very difficult to spot amongst the pebbles until it moves is the ringed plover.
Fortunately mum was busy trying to distract me whilst this little fella did it's best to hide

That's what my wife was shouting (the Park Wildlife Rules) while I took a photo of this charming Buffalo.
Yellowstone is the only place in the United States where bison have lived continuously since prehistoric times. A number of Native American tribes especially revere Yellowstone’s bison as pure descendants of the vast herds that once roamed the grasslands of the United States.
The largest bison population in the country on public land resides in Yellowstone. It is one of the few herds free of cattle genes.
The bison is the largest land mammal in North America. Males weigh up to 2,000 pounds, females weigh about 1,000 pounds.
A bison is agile and quick, and can run up to 35 miles per hour. A bison can also pivot quickly—an advantage when fighting predators that aim for hindquarters.

"There is a voice shouting in my head
And there is a voice
That is singing there instead
And there is a choice
To which one will I listen
For one the road is long and hard
The other yeah, the road will glisten"
John Stewart "Ticket To The Stars"
Red-winged Blackbird, singing its greatest hits of the 70s, 80s, 90s, the 2000s and today, at North Park.
Screaming and shouting, yearn for blood
Servants of Melkor the evil god
Riding with wolves, runners of night
Hoarders of the eye, the black blades of might
They shall raze your villages, destroy your camps
Rape your cattle and slaughter your wives
Under the darkness they shall arrive
Hear the screams, prepare for war
Black skin, sharp teeth, bestial eyes
Perverted mind, there's no one like their kind
No mercy, no prisoners, death is the way
With fire and steel they will slay
Troops of the Red Eye, the hoarders of the Witch
Trust your sword through the heart of betrayals
Great enemy from west, the servants of the sun
Kill for your lord, the darkest one
