"Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring--it was peace."
Our Chow Chow will be 10 years old next month. She is always very camera shy and is hard to take a photo of so I have to be content with what she will give me. LG Dare cell phone pix 10-10-10
Beautiful Sheba, A rare occasion she is not running and playing with the other dogs. I wish I had some of her energy. She and her little sister are so much fun to watch at the dog park.
It's not as sexy as it looks - gosh darn those animals are BIG, and these are the little ones that we get to ride (we pretend to ride). Just call me Sheba.
Sheba died 8th October 1982
I stood by your bed last night,
I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying,
You found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly
As you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you,
I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."
I was close to you at breakfast,
I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times,
Your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today,
Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels,
I wish I could do more.
I was with you at my grave today,
You tend it with such care.
I want to re-assure you,
That I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house,
As you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you,
I smiled and said "It's me."
You looked so very tired,
And sank into a chair,
I tried so hard to let you know,
That I was stand there.
It's possible for me,
To be so near you every day.
To say to you with certainty,
"I never went away."
You sat there very quietly,
Then smiled, I think you knew…
In the stillness of that evening,
I was very close to you.
The day is over…
I smile and watch you yawning,
And say, "good-night, God Bless,
I'll see you in the morning."
An when the time is right for you,
To cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you,
And we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you,
There is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out…
Then come home to be with me.
I took pictures of a friend's cat yesterday and had fun trying to capture her personality. The cat had recently been groomed and had what is known as a lion's cut...clipped fur except for the ruff, tail tip, and paws. It's a solution to the heavily matted fur that some of these cats develop. Sheba looked lovely in her lion's cut and acted the part when the feather toy arrived.
Week 50 (Dec. 20-26, '09)
I took this picture on the 20th, and just now decided which I wanted to use...felt this was a bit different than my others.. a close up of her face.. i love her fluffiness. She's been doing well, way too thin though..she's been eating better, but only 47lbs..should be 55lbs...she gets quite a few small meals throughout the day.. probably going to the vet again this week. What a rough road. Thank you all.
spoke too soon... while typing this up she had an upset.. i just don;t know.
This is the bigger sister. She was nervous when she showed up and wouldn't let me come very close to her (this is a zoom), but would eat the food I put out.
3/27/15: Sheba died today after a long illness.
I wish I could just lay around all day......you think this cat just finished roofing or something..........she never moved the whole time I took pictures of her

Sheba when we stopped at the end of Maratoto Road. Still clean, afterwards she played in dirty water and become really dirty.

Sheba would feel the vibration of the car going over the lift bridge (all of our dogs came to recognize the sound), and she'd start going crazy! You couldn't hold this normally reserved girl back when she got to the spit. She'd swim at Cherry Beach and then run here and go back and do it all over again!
