Better effect in bigger size

this is to show the fine-grain nature of this polished specimen of petrified wood - the finer-grained quartz crystals that have replaced the wood cells are at different angles, following the grain, which is part of the reason the shadow effect is demonstrated. I will take this specimen to the HGMS show this week to show to those interested.

Very interesting, yet boring day. Not much positive interaction with anyone today and I had nothing to take a picture of (with time running out) so this happened.

This cream, blue and gray fortification agate is one I found years ago and has stronger banding than most Rio Grande types. With some clear areas between the cream colored bands, shadow effect makes this a better agate than it would have been otherwise.
