Two children play in the surf by Balboa Pier in Newport Beach, California two days after Thanksgiving. The day before was overcast and rainy, but Saturday the sun came out and so did those looking to play in the water.
This past weekend I made the trip to Abilene, Kansas. This weekend was the last three runs of the year of the former Atchison & Santa Fe #3415 steam locomotive. It now belongs to the Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad, a heritage railroad. I photographed the morning run on Saturday, rode in the cab of the locomotive on the afternoon run. On Sunday I rode in one of the open air cars for the last run of the year. The 3415 was built in 1919 and has been converted to burn oil instead of coal. Image made with a Pentax K1 and Pentax DFA 28-105.
More information about the railroad.

SOOC.
a special thanx to my model for his patience.
no editing, I only made a different crop.

in psychotherapy the shadow is often thought of as some to be aware of and resolved.
here in this photo the shadow is created by green growth, something that is life bearing and to be encouraged.
not always is the shadow to be avoided.
The sun was streaming through a break in the storm clouds lightening parts of the ground but was not able to reach everywhere.
I was wandering around Phoenix and found this building near the science center. There was nothing up there but shadows and a little birdie (mid left) I sat up there on the floor and watched the sun paint with light. By the time I took about 10 shots the birdie was just about up to me.
I had entered this in a contest in Pop Photo. com and ended up making #3 in the Gallery!! Here's the link if you want a look,

Our shadows, like our selves are not clearly focused, while the background, the semi dry creek bed, is sharp. There is no manipulation of the photo, the leaves on the left just reflected the sunlight differently.
*Shadow: (ombre in french)
A shadow is a region of darkness where light is blocked. A shadow occupies all the space behind an opaque object with light in front of it.
The cross-section of a shadow is a two-dimensional silhouette, or reverse projection of the object blocking the light.
The smaller the angle between the direction of the light and the surface on which the shadow occurs, the longer the shadow is.
Walking on the Moon Shooting Rabbit Tracks, St-Donat, Quebec, Canada
Note:
Frozen tracks were made by a wild rabbit ( hare). They look like if they are applied over the snow, in fact they are old frozen tracks which are covered with a thin layer of fresh snow.
Perhaps catching the nuances
Looking at what I can be grateful for instead of what I haven't got
Taking in life in it's varied tones of grey
Instead the absolutes of B&W
Makes life so much better to appreciate
Seem so much more worthwhile
Just perhaps !

silent, alone
Shadows hover then are lost.

The idiots who lay down the cement for our driveway/garage pad miscalculated the drainage, and rather than going toward the alley the water runs toward our house. Because of this, a little lake develops in the spring when the snow melts. It is sufficiently far away from our house, but right next to the garage. In the spring freeze/thaw cycle, it turns to water, then ice, then water... What yo see here is some icy snow (partly in shadow), ice over cement, and then another layer of ice to the right. You can probably make out an oak leaf in the center/top area, and some odd patterns in the frozen area. I intensified the colors, obviously, but the patterns and colors are all there in reality, just less obvious.
a bench in the sun, but only half. the man sits just on the edge, where the light meets the dark. his back turned, shoulders drawn, as if carrying some thought too heavy to share. the shadow swallows most of him, leaving just a sliver of light on his neck. it’s quiet here, though the city hums somewhere beyond. valencia's sharp winter sun cuts the scene into halves—one bright, one black. sometimes, silence feels louder than the noise.
