posting this image scared me and still does... while it might be seen initially as a spooky image, what scares me more is the inherent vulnerability
I wonder is there a knowing beyond what the mind can fathom and is this what sometimes haunts me to pay attention?
here is where I feel the vulnerability - in this place of uncertainty where the mind can't go, because of it's very limits - but a sense of something behind all of it, weaving through everything, timeless and immeasurable...
an incantation to let go in order to become...
This was taken in theodore roosevelt island in Washington DC. I was looking for interesting subjects when I saw this. I thought the shadows cast on the trees and it's reflections were pretty cool. It looks like the non- shadowed portion of the pic has framed the shadowed portion.
captured in the quiet sunlit corners of palma, this member of soulninjas embodies calm strength and urban style against the textured backdrop of the església de sant nicolau. with a laid-back pose and thoughtful gaze, he stands framed by the timeless wood and stone, embodying a moment of stillness before the rhythm returns. the high contrast and strong shadows evoke a sense of resilience, and yet there’s a subtle softness in his expression, grounding the image in both strength and serenity.
Shadows of a balloon with the sun shining from behind. It was cool as the balloons acted as a lens to make the shadows appear in color. I had fun taking the picture as I waited for the parade to start.

A beer glass's random encounter with the sun; I was intrigued that the red bits were opaque enough to produce black shadows.

A fresh from the dairy stick of butter gets buzzed by an outbound jet from O'Hare. The clean UP 8223 was on the rear of an inbound coal train waiting to get into Proviso Yard in the shadows of the airplane guide-path lights or whatever they are called.
Shadows in the lounge this morning - the sunlight light must have been reflecting off a car outside, as this room only gets the sun in the afternoon.

A bench and shadows, photographed through a window, Portland, Oregon.
This photograph may be a bit difficult to explain, especially to the satisfaction of those who might be looking for the usual landscape and nature images. For the most part, I don’t think I will try to explain it too much, except to say that perhaps it isn’t just about benches, and that for me it seems like it has a connection to work created by an artist that I like quite a bit.
Having said that — not a lot, but that’s all I got! — I can mention a few facts. I made the photograph on a visit to Portland, Oregon. We were out wandering around the edges of the central downtown area, and I was photographing all varieties of street subjects that I saw. This must have been a fairly quick shot, as street photographs can be, since it wasn’t a subject I lingered on.

The church porch has a grid over it to prevent birds from entering = produces excellent shadows on a winter's afternoon!
