at the end of a beautiful day here in northeast Ohio, one of the few we've enjoyed in several months.

Nosara, a small beach town in Nicola Peninsula in Costa Rica, has gorgeous sunsets, warm Pacific Ocean water, steady high waves perfect for surfing, and a culture that promotes nature, working out, and yoga.

Ice on Buffalo Bill Reservoir glistens under the setting sun with the Absaroka Mountains as a backdrop. Captured near Cody, WY, just before a series of winter storms swept through the region."

You've seen a sunrise at Dantes View so here is a sunset. I was lucky I arrived in May to photograph sunsets, because depending upon the time of year, that sun is not going to be in that same spot. I'm planning to return in December, and it will be interesting to see how near or far the sun sets from where it was in this image.

Look near the center of the image and you'll see a long, thin line of white leading out to a salt flat. That's the trail you walk from the Badwater Basin parking area to the nearest white salt flat. It's about a mile one-way, but the salt is packed down along the trail so it doesn't take very long to get to your salt flat destination.

Sunset from Hotel Catalina on Bahia Zihuatanejo.

In the lower centre there is a patch of roiled up water. It's a school of fish probably disturbed by a predator. This is a common sight in the bay.

Just about gone...sun over Lago Chiusi. Lake Chiusi is in Tuscany but the land beyond, as well as that from where the photo was taken, is in Umbria. This is Etruscan country and there are many Etruscan tombs in the woods just beyond the lake shore.

This gap in the trees along the shore was created when the property owner cleared the lot and then ... nothing. Maybe one day they will build and I will no longer have one of my favourite views on my daily walks.

In winter, the winds off Huron cause the snow to blow across the road and form some serious drifts.

Fields of gold...daffodils basking in the spotlight of the evening setting sun, Saanich, Vancouver Island, BC.

The sun sets over the Buffalo Bill Reservoir in Wapioti Valley west of Cody, Wyoming.

I always admire Bufflehead Ducks but am seldom able to photograph the male showing the iridescent purple and green coloring on the head. I was happy this matted pair stayed so close together and that the male was closer to me than the female.

=======================

From Wikipedia: The bufflehead (Bucephala albeola) is a small sea duck of the genus Bucephala, the goldeneyes. This species was first described by Carl Linnaeus in his landmark 1758 10th edition of Systema Naturae as Anas albeola.

The genus name is derived from ancient Greek boukephalos, "bullheaded", from bous, "bull", and kephale, "head", a reference to the oddly bulbous head shape of the species. The species name albeola is from Latin albus, "white". he English name is a combination of buffalo and head, again referring to the head shape. This is most noticeable when the male puffs out the feathers on the head, thus greatly increasing the apparent size of the head.

Description: it rivals the green-winged teal as the smallest American duck. Adult males are striking black and white, with iridescent green and purple heads and a large white patch behind the eye. Females are grey-toned with a smaller white patch behind the eye and a light underside.

Behavior:

Buffleheads have evolved their small size to fit the nesting cavity of their "metabiotic" host, a woodpecker, the northern flicker. Due to their small size, they are highly active, undertaking dives almost continuously while sustained by their high metabolism. They do not tend to collect in large flocks; groups are usually limited to small numbers. One duck serves as a sentry, watching for predators as the others in the group dive in search of food. Buffleheads are amongst the last waterfowl to leave their breeding grounds and one of the world's most punctual migrants, arriving on their wintering grounds within a narrow margin of time.

Sunset at West Bay, Dorset, UK, 2014.

West Pond, Parsonsfield, Maine.

This setting sun shows how the warmer days now have melted most of the snow that had covered the pond, large areas are now just bare ice, we can feel spring getting closer these day's.

An amazing sunset over Hastings Sea Front, The pier sits in the background, closed and unlit.

Yup, its Bahia de Zihuatanejo and the sun is doing its daily setting. We were fortunate enough to witness the going down 28 times this year, with or without enough cloud to add interest its a joy.

It was an epic trip.

I wasn't quite finished, though. After a few days in Japan, I hopped on a flight to Hawaii for a couple of weeks, followed by a whistle stop tour of mainlain US, from Texas, through New Orleans, Memphis, Nashville, up to Washington DC and New York, before flying back home to Glasgow.
