started building a new set of ice climbing tools and thought i would document the process. i have a few shots of other welding projects, but they mostly are just a few snaps of this and that and so on...so anyway, here we go. © design
this series documents the work done to the handle portion of the tool. ice tools have a pommel or plate at the lowest end of the tool that serves several goals. those are the protection of the fingers from impact on the ice, helping to keep the hand from sliding off the end of the tool and there is often a small spike that can be driven into the ice to aid in your stability.
in this series i slotted the end of the tubing so as to insert a nut into the shaft. into this nut, i will be able to thread the plate that will keep the hand from sliding and also the spike that will be welded to the plate. at this point, the plate is unshaped. the final shape of the plate will be created later.

Parked up inside the Aylesbury depot is Arriva The Shires & Essex Dennis Dart (X296MBH 3296) driver shuttle vehicle seen not in use during the heavy snow period which caused the depot to suspend all services. New to the Shires fleet in 2000.

Passing the John Kennedy pub & Quarrendon shops is Redline buses Dennis Dart (Y251NLK) working service 2 having just turned around at the bottom of Meadowcroft toad heading back towards Aylesbury town centre. New to Metroline in 2001 as DLAM155.
Although, it's a little bit early I better set the table for tonight's dinner!!

Former Arriva The Shires & Essex (G657UPP 5107) an Alexander bodied Leyland Olympian is seen pausing near Melling village near Liverpool during a private run from the depot after working in schools in Liverpool city centre. New to Luton & District in 1989 as 657 & is hoped to be bought for preservation soon.

Chesham Broadway is where see Arriva the Shires (Y47HBT 0447) a 2001 Optare Solo working a very unusual appearance on service 55 from Aylesbury via Great Missenden. This bus was the last Optare Solo in service at Aylesbury and was pictured here just several days before permanent withdrawal.

45108 sits at March Depot separated from the rest of the withdrawn locos that were littering the rest of the depot .
By this time the loco had been withdrawn from service 6 months - August 1987 - with derailment damage but would leave nearly 3 years later April 1990 into prservation rather than a date with the cutters torch.
