The White Corries
End of October and the clocks were going back… Bliss , an extra hour in bed…
However the first significant snows had hit Scotland’s Mountains and the forecast for Sunday was looking rather good…. Bags packed the night before and the alarm was set for 5.30am (well 6.30 body clock time!).
Feeling rather good when woken by the alarm (mainly due to the extra hour factor) I sprung out of bed and set about defrosting the car whilst making some porridge and getting set to go.
-3 degrees and the skies were clear as I headed north on the A9 aiming to meet Gerry at Choire Collie at a leisurely 0830 am. Arriving in unison we discovered out first problem of the day – finding a parking spot!! The place was heaving and it seemed a few cars had been there overnight judging by the frost on the windscreens. Subsequently we met a few people coming back down form the bothy after an adventurous evening.
Winter gear on for the first time this season and we were soon saying our hellos to the Wee Minister and not long after started heading up the slopes of Stob Coire Gaibhre. The snow line was reached and the landscape turned white with the monochrome landscape contrasting the bright blue skies. What a day it was turning out to be. After stopping for a small time on Gaibhre, we were soon heading up the 15th highest mountain in Scotland. The snow was laying a few inches deep and the rime was plastering the boulders. From our viewpoint the Grey Corries lay before us with The Aonachs and Ben Nevis providing a suitable back drop.
The slight breeze that had greeted us on Claurigh was now disappearing and the sun was beating down. I had to delayer and was soon striding along the ridge in my base layer, felt more like the Alps than Scotland! Days like these live long in the memory and we just took our time enjoying the views as we made our way along the ridge. To the south the great mountains of The Mamores, Glencoe and beyond were all instantly recognisable. Eventually we reached our final peak of the day – Stob Coire Easein and decided to leave Choinnich Mor for another day, a great excuse to return!
The day wasn’t over yet though as we still had a fair bit of walking to do. We had managed to park at the parking spots nearer the gate so decided to take the old tram line back to the car.
A nice route although one of the burn cross resulted in me slipping and face planting the rocks – I was thirst anyway so took the opportunity to have a wee drink

This image of St. Francis caught my attention again when I was looking back through this session. It made me think about his deep connection to nature and how birds trusted him especially. With the protective railings outside the building protecting the glass, caught in the image as well, it struck me that it was like looking at him and the bird as if they were in a cage. For Francis, the closest he could get to his God was through nature. Therefore I felt that this image illustrated everything he would try to free his mind from; to be free of those iron railings.

Awaiting to pick up students outside Chesham Grammar school is (W403UGM) a Plaxton bodied Dennis Dart of Red Eagle buses seen about to work service 177 to South Heath, New to Travel London as 8403 in 2000. (YJ56WVS) of Carousel Buses is seen behind working service 1 to High Wycombe.
A Eastbound stacker train rumbling thru Geneva IL on the UPRR Geneva Subdivision right before sunset. A bit too underexposed, but tweeked up to get some detail out of the train. Not sure I like the visual clutter, but it is closer than heading to rural Kane/Dekalb

Durante la época de transformación de las ramas reversibles con locomotora de la serie 269 en unidades de tren con los automotores eléctricos de las series 450 y 451, fue posible ver composiciones reducidas con tres o cuatro coches en lugar de los cinco habituales. RENFE: the reversible set 450-005 with 269-313 locomotive, working a Cercanias train from Barcelona Sant Andreu Comtal to Sant Vicenç de Calders. During the process of transformation of reversible trains with locomotives of 269 series to EMUs with electric motor cars of series 450 and 451, it was possible to see small compositions with three or four cars instead of the usual five. (Image scanned from an original paper).
I used two flashes, set off with Pocket Wizards. One was to the right of the saguaro, about center of the photo. I used that for a general light. The second flash was to the left of the saguaro, set at full power and zoomed in to give a brighter accent light for a few arms.

Dumped to one side at a small site in Launton village is this Ford Transit Dormobile (L683GKE) that used to operate withnow ceased RH Transport Services, and is now disused and abandoned.
This beautiful Georgian terrace on Sidmouth's seafront dates from 1807 when construction started on the Royal York Hotel - Sidmouth's first purpose-built hotel - at this end. The remainder of the terrace, which dates from mostly the same period, was originally individual houses, though these had various different purposes including assembly rooms and baths. Over the years the Faulkner Hotel absorbed several of these, and then the two hotels combined in 1970. The far end of the terrace dates from 1923. The whole of it is Grade II-listed.
Prior to the terrace being built in the early 1800s this area was used for ship-building. Sidmouth was an important fishing town in those days and as well as having fishing boats for local waters, Sidmouth sent larger boats as far away as Newfoundland.
According to a book published by Sidmouth Museum, "The ships would set out as early in the year as the weather allowed, travelling via ports in Spain and Portugal where they would stock up with salt to preserve the fish, and remaining in Newfoundland until the following autumn when they would return laden with salted fish and cod liver oil. The boats carried most of the fish back to Spain and Portugal for sale to their Catholic population and returned to Devon with wine traded in exchange for the fish.”

Working school service 881 to Princess Risborough is (F41XCS 244) a 1988 Leyland Olympian of Z&S Travel seen passing through Aylesbury town Center having just departed the St Henry Floyd Grammar School. Formally United Counties 14520.
On a recent visit to Dumfries & Galloway we came across this fellow gazing out to sea from the harbour at Port William
To get the shot I used my black background and set the magnet with the pins on it, the camera was had held so I could work the different angels. The flash was set to 1/4 so not to over expose the image.

Previously operated for Hedingham & District L148. The bus is now preserved and can see occasional use on the companys school contracts.
