Across the country, hundreds of alumni joined together for the second annual Alumni Day of Service on May 7, 2016. The Dartmouth Alumni Council’s Alumni Service Committee organized the event to further the College’s longstanding tradition of community service.
Dartmouth alumni in New York City tutored middle school students at the East Harlem School.

SJPL Service Day - In honor of the 2017 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service, San José Public Library hosted its first systemwide Service Day on Saturday, January 21, 2017. Everyone was invited to give back to their community by beautifying their local library branch.

im actually pretty amazed that this place had a phone. they had pieces of wood nailed to doorframes for locks. and a spigot tied to a strip of fabric hanging on the wall with a hose attached to a faucet. and we couldnt find any sort of plumbing in the remains of the walls or any toilets of bathtubs. but hey. they could talk on the phone.

VCES second grade students shared the history of the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon (SSMO) during a Heritage prayer service on Wednesday, March 15. The Sisters honor their history by celebrating SSMO Heritage Month each March. The students prepared posters showing "then" and "now" pictures and made gifts for each of the Sisters.

**I'm prefacing this by saying that my great-grandfather, grandfather, and mother have all worked for the Postal Service...I was brought up being (jokingly) told that UPS and FedEx were dirty words, and actually go out of my way to use the postal service...this was just to funny to pass up***
This was taken at the post office today. When I got there, there were three "windows" open. A fourth clerk came up and was working on something at the, closed, fourth window. As the line got longer and longer, each of the three open windows closed (this post office does NOT close at lunch time). As the final clerk put up a "Please use next window" sign and walked away, those of us standing in line looked at each other and said "Seriously?! They wonder why no one uses the Post office anymore?!". After a minute or two of standing there, I took this photo with my cell phone. Right after this photo was taken, a clerk came out and opened a window, and then another clerk came back and opened another window. Not sure WHY all four windows wound up closed at the same time (or if they only noticed it BECAUSE I was taking a photo!), but, luckily, those of us left standing in that long line had a sense of humor about it!!

Today was the final service in this Sanctuary. It has served us from 1985 to 2009, and will now serve as Sunday school space. The new sanctuary will be dedicated next Saturday. I will not have many pictures of that service as all deacons will be participating.
The point of this one seems to be that cigarettes get some rude use. The "cigarette as mistreated lover" analogy doesn't stretch very far though, I mean how much better is Dame Ciggy gonna feel being responsibly stubbed out in an public ashtray. I mean existentially speaking, is a cigarette gonna feel a whole lot better about that.
Four Chaplains Service honoring the four chaplains, who were four U.S. Army chaplains who gave their lives to save other civilian and military personnel as the troop ship SS Dorchester sank during World War II. These chaplains helped other soldiers board lifeboats and gave up their own life jackets when the supply ran out. Guest speaker was Chaplain (MAJ) William Cork, Brigade Chaplain, 72d Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Texas Army National Guard.
Before anyone says "a dog", I know that. But what breed is it? Nasty piece of work too - didn't like being stroked, or looked at.

Keeping company with 47853 [47614] [47141], new additions to the ever growing Locomotive Services fleet former DRS 57311 [47817] [47662] [47032], sporting a London North Western Railway/British Rail - style lined black livery and the first member of it's class to lose its Dellner coupler stands alongside 37402 [37274] + 37401 [37268] which recently made the short trip over from Gresty Bridge having been released by DRS.
