To break the terabyte barrier for the Indy Minute Sort, the computer science researchers built a system made up of 52 computer nodes. Each node is a commodity server with two quad-core processors, 24 gigabytes (GB) memory and sixteen 500 GB disks – all inter-connected by a Cisco Nexus 5020 switch. Cisco donated the switches as a part of their research engagement with the UC San Diego Center for Networked Systems. The compute cluster is hosted at Calit2.

After brewing coffee in a large coffee maker, these insulated coffee servers can be used at individual tables or the dessert table to allow more guests to get a cup of coffee without waiting in a line.

These servers can also be used for cold beverages. Ice tea or ice coffee is great during the hot summer months. Offer a variety of juices for your guests - these insulated containers will keep it cold.

Finally got around to moving the old Mac G4 which holds my web photo albums into the closet, out of the way, making room at my desk to get the Mac Pro currently set up on my dinette table moved into the den. Eventually, the Mac Pro will power the new and improved photo server, and this G4 will go bye-bye.

The power supply has been fitted and wired up, as have the pass through connectors for Ethernet and USB. Now all that remains is the Pi.

I upgraded the server to 2 SSDs (60 GB SSD for boot OS and 120 GB SSD for virtual machines), 2x5 TB Western Digital NAS HDDs for storage. Unfortunately, I only have 5 TBs of available storage since I am mirroring the drives.

Today I'm building a file server from all the old computer parts I have laying around.
