A Bull Moose at Silver Lake. He must have recently shed his velvet and now is on the rut,watch out! One of the biggest bulls I have ever seen. I left the area promptly when he started trashing those shrub,meaning he was getting annoyed with getting his photo taken by a puny human.
It's back to being dark in the mornings when I go to work. I came out of the house the other day and the moon was just setting, so I grabbed a quick snap with the 5D3 and the Tamron 150-600

We chose Trillium Gap for the hike down from the LeConte Lodge on Monday. The route down was a couple of miles longer, but the descent was gentler, and that sounded good to everyone (apparently I wasn't the only one in our group who had a hard time getting up the mountain).
By using Trillium Gap for the descent, we also hoped to run into the train of llamas that bring food and other staples up to the isolated Lodge twice a week. About an hour into our descent, we were rewarded with the sight of six or eight llamas, loaded down with packs, climbing up the mountain. It was really wonderful to see them.
(Llamas are pretty easygoing creatures. We figured that the one wearing a muzzle is prone to snacking on the job.)
(I still haven't looked at all the photos from the trip this weekend. This week has been kicking my ass. The hamper still broadcasts the musty fragrance of unwashed clothing that saw way too much action this weekend. Hopefully I'll have a chance to sort through the rest of the pictures tomorrow.... and do some laundry, too.)
I can't help it. It's my favorite month of the year. Colors start to change, everything becomes glossy from the rain. And it feels so good to have hot drinks after long walks at home again.
