Seen at Mansfield Bus Station

12th September 2020

One of a family of stonechats seen in the gorse close to the masts in the masts field at Prestbury Hill nature reserve in Gloucestershire on a visit in late September. This confiding female was very oblinging and posed perfectly for the camera.

September 1, 2021, at the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad found 2-8-2 No. 484 pulling the regular train from Chama to Osier, and No. 487 with a one-car special following behind it. The visiting locomotives from the Victorian Iron Horse Roundup (Eureka and Glenbrook) had been loaded on truck and had left town the previous day.

With every sun’s rising, surprise us with Your love, satisfy us with Your kindness. Then we will sing with joy and celebrate every day we are alive. Psalm 90:14

“The first flash of color always excites me as much as the first frail, courageous bloom of spring. This is, in a sense, my season--sometimes warm and, when the wind blows an alert, sometimes cold. But there is a clarity about September. On clear days, the sun seems brighter, the sky more blue, the white clouds take on marvelous shapes; the moon is a wonderful apparition, rising gold, cooling to silver; and the stars are so big. The September storms--the hurricane warnings far away, the sudden gales, the downpour of rain that we have so badly needed here for so long--are exhilarating, and there's a promise that what September starts, October will carry on, catching the torch flung into her hand.” ― Faith Baldwin, Evening Star

An embrace of September chill,

a harbinger of things to come.

A warmth within,

Thing never undone.

I hope your September is going well. I had hoped to return to Flickr full time by now but am still super busy with Echo. I will try to drop in and see what you all have been up to,.

FUTURA - Pioneer of the American Urban Art Movement

Comes to LA for First Ever Solo Show

When: Thursday September 18th 2008 – Sunday September 21st, 2008

Where: Phantom Galleries LA at the Pacific Electric Lofts 610 S. Main St. Downtown LA, 90014

Preview for the Downtown LA Art Walk 6-10pm September 11, 2008

KRUNK presents, Strategic Synchronicity – an incredibly rare four-day event featuring the first ever LA solo-show by the internationally acclaimed graffiti artist & true pioneer of the American Urban Art movement – Futura. This once in a lifetime event starts on Thursday September 18th and will only continue until Sunday September 21st (in a secret location in Downtown LA). Then it's gone.

This, as perhaps Futura's most anticipated body of work ever, will showcase his extraordinary talent with a range of original canvases and drawings. Fans and art collectors will have a narrow window of opportunity to purchase original Futura art, with prices starting from $1,500 and upwards. The exhibition will not only showcase his new work but will also take a genuinely evolving organic form - a work in progress. This will be a truly historic occasion for fine art and street culture in the U.S. and should not be missed.

"LA was an obvious destination for me to showcase this collection. The city has so many incredible creatives who I consider as friends and whose work I respect enormously. It's about time I hit LA particularly with this collection. Above all, I'm looking forward to having some fun presenting AND creating this new work in LA." Futura

What to expect: Futura's past experience merges with his vision of the future, combining his tendency towards meticulous precision with his trademark free-flowing spraycan techniques. His art appears effortless in its abstraction with commentary on themes such as 'space' and 'the future' and his interpretation of 'the present'. Those lucky enough to be present might spot an 'old friend' in his work (perhaps for the last time?) as well as some incredible advancements and developments of his art form:

Futura has always had a keen interest and somewhat of an obsession with the latest technologies, so expect to see canvases stretched onto aluminium (in order to prevent warping due to environmental factors), pieces complemented by specifically devised music scores and film trials and much more.

"I consider this collection my best work yet, when I started on it I could feel myself about to explode. All these years of development and it reflects my growth and evolution. I want this work considered on its merits….and in that sense, I'm going right back to the beginning." Futura

The electricity pylon which carries either 275kV or 400kV (not sure which) connects the nearby Rayleigh Main Sub Station to Coryton and Tilbury Power Station and is part of the National Grid power transmission network.

I'd be inclined to say this line is carrying the lower voltage.

This weekend saw the welcome re-introduction of GCR's limited passenger service following the successful replacement of bridge No 340 North of Quorn and Woodhouse Station.

37714 arrived at GCR in early March 2017 after being repainted at Derby into its current Train Load Freight (TLF) metals livery from its former Direct Rail Services (DRS) blue colour scheme. It was named Cardiff Canton ceremoniously on 17th March 2017 during GCR's March 2017 Spring Diesel Gala. The loco is on a five year loan to the 'Heavy Tractor Group'. TLF liveries first appeared on British Rail (BR) in the late 1980's following its formation in October 1987.

The BR Class 37 is a 1,750 bhp diesel-electric locomotive - also known as the English Electric Type 3. 309 were built between 1960-1965 with a top speed of 90 mph.

As a member of the 37/7 subclass this locomotive has additional ballast weight to assist in maintaining traction when starting heavy loads.

Gegenüber die Hohe Tauern

September 7th 2002. I was documenting the protest over affordable housing, outside the old Woodward’s Building on West Cordova Street, downtown Vancouver. Homeless people were squatting in the old Woodward’s building, which had been slated for redevelopment into new homes. It was a large protest, and tensions were high. The police had blocked off the road. In this scene, I am right in the middle of the crowd. I was fascinated by the two men on the left, who were communicating with a unique kind of sign language that involved holding each other’s hands and interpreting the gestures by feeling them, as well as some vocalization. One was deaf, the other was blind. Shot on Kodak BW400CN film.

USA 2016

We went to USA in September 2016. These next set of images are from just a few of the places that we visited. It is a fantastic place to explore. These images are from Boston and other places and represent a few of the buildings and architectural features that were photographed at the time.

This is the first of two postings.

Photograph taken at 11:21am on Friday 13th September 2013 at an altitude of Five hundred and three metres from the comfy confines of an open metal two seater ski chair lift ascending Glen Coe Ski Resort (also known as 'Glencoe mountain' and White Corries ski centre', located on Meall a' Bhuiridh, a mountain on the edge of Rannoch Moor in the highlands of Scotland, close in proximity to Glen Coe and Glen Etive. The mountain is One thousand, One hundred and eight metres tall (3,635ft), ranked 36th in the UK with a prominence of 795 metres and the name in Gaelic means 'Hill of the bellowing'.

The River Coe runs through the valley and the views from the mountain include The Three Sisters, Meall Mor, Aonach Dubh and Bidean Nam Bian, the highest point in the former county of Argyll. Stob Coire Sgreamhach is designated as a separate Munro (a mountain in Scotland with a height over 3,000 ft (914.4 m). Of course, there is always Ben Nevis to admire as well.

There are seven lifts on Meall a' Bhuiridh and nineteen ski runs. The Glen Coe ski resort lies on it's Northern slopes, and the cafe at the base serves the finest hot chocolate smothered with whipped cream and lashings of scrmptious marshmallows that I have ever tasted.

There’s a lot you can say about Yale, but it does add a certain charm to New Haven.

I don’t have much to say lately. Nothings going on in my life atm.

I was in a good mood today, felt a lot less heavy than I have been.

I have TEN pages left of I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, I’ll finish it when I get up tmrw. Ugh it took me way too long to get thru it. My goal is to read TWO more books before the year is over. Mrs. Dalloway for sure but I haven’t decided on the other yet.

Wilhelm Kotarbiński (30 November 1848 – 4 September 1921) was a Polish artist and painter of historical and fantastical subjects, who spent most of his life in Kyiv and the Russian Empire.

Kotarbiński was born in Nieborów in Warsaw Province of Congress Poland. His father was an impoverished Polish nobleman who served as a manager for the Radziwiłł estates. He began his studies with Rafał Hadziewicz at the Warsaw School of Art from 1867 to 1871. Afterward, he enrolled at the University of Warsaw, urged on by his parents who were opposed to an artistic career, but stayed for only a short time before borrowing money from his uncle and moving to Italy. The following year, he was able to arrange a stipend from the Imperial Society for the Encouragement of the Arts and enrolled at the Accademia di San Luca, where he studied with Francesco Podesti until 1875, living in poverty and barely surviving a case of typhoid.

In 1888, he left Italy, after being invited by his friend, Pavel Svedomsky, to come to Kyiv and work on an upcoming major public project. He married a distant cousin, acquired property in Minsk Governorate, and began painting in the local churches, but visited Kiev frequently. Although he was Catholic, he did decorative work at the Orthodox St Volodymyr's Cathedral from 1889 to 1894, with several other well-known Russian and Ukrainian artists, notably Viktor Vasnetsov. Under the supervision of Adrian Prakhov, an expert on old Russian and Byzantine art, he worked on 84 individual figures and 18 full paintings, including a large painting of the transfiguration of Christ. During this time, he became friends with the Prakhov family and was said to be enamored of Prakhov's wife, Emilia [ru]. This, combined with his frequent and lengthy absences, eventually led to an estrangement from his wife, who moved to an estate near Vilnius.
