Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is enshrined in this building. He guides the dead spirits over to the Pure Land of western paradise where Amitabha Buddha resides. This Bodhisattva, who is also reffered to as the Great Vow Bodhisattva. is said to have maid a vow to save all sentient beings from all sufferings next passing away of Sakyamuni Buddha. He stays in hell to save all suffering beings until no one remains there.

This is Daniel Popper's sculpture called "Sentient", one of the eight sculptures by the South African artist on display at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL, as part of the "Human+Nature" exhibit. "Sentient" was truly the most unsettling of all of Popper's work at the Arboretum. While only part of it is featured here, the work as a whole could aptly be discribed as a physical manifestation of migraine headache or a split personality. "Everything, Everywhere, All At Once" might as well be a film about this sculpture.

"Human+Nature" was the latest in an ongoing series of two-year long exhibitions at the Arboretum and ended effective March 1, 2023. With most or all of the statues reportedly sold, by March 9th "Ginkgo" will have most likely been removed. A new exhibit will debut in May 2023.

"Artistry"

This image is being submitted as part of the #Flickr21 Photo Challenge, celebrating Flickr's 21st anniversary on February 10, 2025. The theme for the 10th day of the 21 day photo challenge is "Artistry." Photography is an art form in and of itself. So by definition, any photographer is an artist by default. I have found it enjoyable to use one art form to celebrate another. And Daniel Popper's "Human+Nature" sculptures have been some of the most impressive large-scale works of art that I have seen to date. This image of "Sentient" is perhaps my favorite of all the shots I took of this particular sculpture, and one of my favorites of all the sculptures. But more on that to come in the days ahead as we wrap up the #Flickr21 Challenge.

SENTIENT

A being sensitive in perception or feeling.

There is no denying how easy it is to be distracted in today's world. over exposure to Phones, media, news blasting at us , fragmenting us, dislocating us from our selves and the world around us.

The daily digital dementia leads to a scrambling of our senses.

This piece for me speaks to a return to stillness . For me being and connecting with Nature and meditation are essential in finding my center in the chaos.

And the awareness that there is no seperation between us and nature .

Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar are the only two places in the whole of Tibet that were visited by Lord Buddha, accompanied by five hundred Arhats. During the turning of the Three Wheels of the Dharma, Buddha Shakyamuni extensively explained the merits of building images. So Indra (the king of gods) offered precious articles of the gods, Ananda (the king of Serpents or Nagas) offered precious articles of the Nagas and Bimbisara (the king of Magadh) offered gold and silver, etc. to the Buddha and requested him to have three images of the Buddha made, as a means of generating merit for the sentient beings in the future. The total distance, covered in a complete circumambulation of Mount Kailash according to the route charted by Gotsangpa, is 52km and takes about 13 to 15 hours. Tibetan pilgrims generally start early in the morning and complete one circumambulation by nightfall. Most Tibetan pilgrims do three to thirteen circumambulations of Mount Kailash. There are some who do 108 circumambulations of Mount Kailash. tibet-incense.com/blog/circling-kailash-and-manasarovar/

So there I was, sitting at the Sentient Bean, one of my most favoriter places ever. My normally empty smoking area was full of patrons. I thought that was cool in itself. So I unloaded all my gear, tripod, camera pack, coat etc. I was at this table with this really cute girl (maybe I should say lady ?) and her dog whom I introduced myself to right away, putting my hand under the table and petting the cuty. The chick was way standoffish like. So I didnt bother to push the conversation thing. I had my Columbian ($1.85) java and was really needing it after the bus ride into town. Just chillin. Their was two other really young and pretty girls at the table behind me talking about sewing. Thats another story for another posting. :)

So I noticed the little birds like every where. Literally ! They were waiting on something, anything to hit the ground that was eatable. Then their where a couple of plundering type birds, like me, the pirate type. LOL. They wasnt waiting around for "dropped stuff", hell no. They were table pirates with big ba__s. They were not afraid. All this time I had my camera sitting on the table right in front of me and I was waiting for photo ops. Hey, you know me, the psycho photo guy. Then all of a sudden this one little bird hopped up on top of the chicks laptop. Right on top of the screen. I thought it was just the coolest thing ever. I was forming thought processes to grab my camera when this chick just backhand swatted the little bird off the laptop. That kinda caught me off guard. Like wow! Like swatting a fly. With no remorse, or after thought. Right back to the email typing or what ever it was she was doing. So at that point I realized that she wasnt even paying the dog any attention at all. The whole time I was there. Nothing. The dog just set there.

Eventually she finished her "what ever it was" that she was eating. Taking the scraps inside to despose of, tiddied herself and her coffee cup and finally came back out to get her dog. No words to the dog like "come on (insert name) lets go home or for a walk. Nothing, not a wisper.

I thought that was not right. You just cant be that cold. Not to YOUR animal. But what really had me thinking was the fact that you can not be mean to one animal and not to another. If you are mean to one, you are mean to all. Animal people draw no lines as to breeds, types, species, etc. You either like and respect them all or you dont. Now their are people like me that doesnt like CATS. But I dont hate cats. I just dont want one. And I sure as hell would never, ever, back hand a bird off my computer.....EVER.

So shortly after she left I did the same. Got me a refill and my gear, bike and walked over to Forsyth Park, across the road. Low and behold, there she was, in all her glory. The girl with the dog. I watched as she walked from one side of the park to the other, never stopping once to let the dog do dog stuffs.

And now, as I write this I hope that she is not putting that dog on like a piece of jewelry. Just to make her look cool. Cause it aint working. I can see thru that crap like a cheap plastic bar to-go cup.

I have wanted for so long to have another dog. But I have the fn common sense to know whats best for the dog, and it aint living on a little boat, or living with a pirate.

Maybe, if my suspisions are right, the dog will run away and find a really cool chick that has a warm heart. God knows this dog is looking. :)

{ This dog is headed out on the water again in the early am. Going to find an island to plunder. :) Hope all you people have a really great weekend.

Get out, touch something you havent touched. Life is short. Cheers }

Alien art

Recent years, we have learned a lot of things about animals. We know now how smart they are in defending their self, finding foods and finding sex partners. Without being conscious, it is not possible to do the tasks they do. Level of consciousness may vary form animals to animals, but all sentient animals are aware of their self and the environment they are in.

Consciousness may be gained from informations we get during our development and/ or it may be instinctive. Body of animals and ours have the capacity to create the consciousness. The.most important is the body ( hardware), not the software.

Our body has developed according “ the tree of life “. Consciousness has been a necessity for further development of living organisms. Feelings and emotions, consciousness and atoms are main things in our universe. Aliens in our universe must have them if they exist. High level of senses and some dominating feelings and emotions and also high level of life-experiences may contribute high level of consciousness. Body's state in creation of high level of consciousness may be very relevant too.

Some aliens might have higher capability to create high level of consciousness. Proper dominating feelings and emotions, high level senses and high level of life experiences may also effect the level of their consciousness.

I've already written a lengthy account of my visit to Kynance Cove last weekend. You probably don't want to hear any more about it, but there's always another tale somewhere if I can just drag it out of this keyboard on a Friday evening at the end of another long week at the swamp.

Some of you will have read stories on this page of the adventures and misadventures of a wide angle lens that came into my possession in the spring of 2019. I won't go over those again - no need to overuse a well worn saga. Recently I resolved to revive its fortunes because it had lain unused in my spare bag for several months. I was worried that it might start to show signs of neglect, and it had also occurred to me that there may have been a reason why I'd purchased it in the first place. So one evening I resolved to address the situation, deliberately leaving the other lenses at home and took it to Gwithian, where we had a very enjoyable evening together (or at least we did until a large party invaded my space along with an over enthusiastic dog, whose name I learned in full Sensurround more than once was Spencer). If a lens were some form of sentient being it might have felt like one of your children does when you take them somewhere special on their own. Not that I've ever done anything like that or I'd have still been hearing about it twenty years later. My daughter still complains about her brother having a Penguin biscuit when for some unremembered reason she missed out on one. This happened in 1996 by the way.

So that was it. I'd made my point and used the lens and made some shots that I was happy enough with. One of them I shared with you three or four weeks ago, although when I remember the heat of the afternoon that day it seems a lot longer. Now I could stuff the lens back into its bag like the lone occupant of an empty old manor house and everything would return to normal. Except that the lens stayed on the camera. This was partly because I'd forgotten just how sharp it could make an image from back to front, and partly because it just happened that in a couple of subsequent outings it was the only one which was going to swallow the entire composition that I had in mind. Last Saturday at Kynance was one of those days, and this view over the sea stacks could only work if I had some foreground in the composition. For that I needed to zoom out to 16mm.

Standing among this outcrop high on the cliff I moved the tripod about by small degrees, a couple of inches to the left, half a step backwards, trying very slightly different placings and then making a focus stack. Ultimately the ever changing sky decided which version I'd share with you and all of the small and subtle foreground changes became irrelevant.

So now the lens is back where it belongs. There it sits in front of me in the main bag, adding to my options and so also by default my confusion levels as I head out towards the great wherever with that sense of anticipation that makes us all what we are. Tomorrow I have a plan. I want to try and do a better job of an image I took in the summer. Wish me luck. I love having a plan and I love not knowing what adventures tomorrow will bring. Have a great weekend everyone, and remember to dust off that forgotten piece of kit you paid all that money for and have left unused. You won't regret it.

After that disaster with the OFE units, the Blue Mystery company dissolved and was never heard of again. Or so it seems.

They moved off-world and worked in secret for many years on a new line of robots. With the launch of their latest product, S.A.P.E (Sentient Automated Planetary Explorer) they took over space exploration.

And indeed for a while all was well and Blue Mystery was able to clear their name. Until reports came in from far and wide about the sheer stupidity of the S.A.P.E. units. It was not long before people referred to them as "Stupid Apes". And with that the fate of Blue Mystery was finally sealed.

In a realm cloaked in the folds of whimsy, nestled the land of Plushshire, where the sentient stufflings—Stufflepuffs and Tedwardians—dwelt in a fabric-bound fraternity. This was until the day the Revolt of the Cuddly Toys unfurled, stitching dissent between the Hoppington Hares of Fluffborough and the Bearington Bears of Pawston.

Our plush protagonist, Sir Cuddleton Patchworthy, was a Bearwardian of great renown. His valor was famed throughout the Tusslemeadows of Thimbleton, and in the fray, he became threadbare, a hero frayed but not defeated.

Sir Cuddleton, knight of the revered Wovenkeep, possessed knowledge of the arcane Twirlwinds—a spellthread capable of reweaving the most tattered of toy souls. In his recovery, tended by the crafty paws of Madam Purlina Webwhisker, the sage of Seams, Patchworthy contemplated the raveled threads of war.

The Neverolds, eternal children of Plushshire, observed the fray through teary glass eyes. In their wisdom, they conceived a plot most playful: the Larkspur Labyrinth, a playground so beguiling that no stuffed soldier could resist its siren song of serenity. Here, in this haven of hilarity, the disheartened warriors laid down their cotton cudgels and embraced their erstwhile enemies.

Sir Cuddleton Patchworthy, now adorned with the emblem of empathy began his most important quest. He traversed Plushshire, from the cushiony hills of Napvale to the silken sands of Drowsy Dunes, spinning tales of solace and stitching unity into the fabric of every toy's being.

And so, the yarn of the Revolt of the Cuddly Toys unwound to an uneasy stillness. Plushshire was suspended in a delicate balance, as if the very air held its breath. Sir Cuddleton Patchworthy, erstwhile warrior, now dubbed 'The Tranquil,' became a legend in hush tones and half-whispers.

For in the shadows of playtime's joy and the soft echoes of laughter, there lingered a thread of unease. The Neverolds knew, as all who've watched the cycle of tales unfold, that darkness can restitch itself anew. And as the moonlight danced upon the Larkspur Labyrinth, they wondered quietly: would the stitches of peace hold, or would they unravel in the silent whispers of the night?

A bill against intensive farming: profit is not compatible with animal welfare. In all farming, meat or derivatives, animals are only products, not sentient beings. An image that you won't like, but intensive farming is the reality behind your meat dish, but also behind your cheese or your eggs, things don't change.

Here for you, awaiting you, everynight are dreams, unique to you.

Your own inner kingdom... and as you awake, the world does too.

Dewdrops in the morning glow, ice-crystals covering plants and lands in dusk-light colouring, the sound of the first birds beginning to sing, an atmospheric symphony veiling the scenes as mist rises from the cool grounds, and light warms it gradually.

Existence, what cosmic sorcery, providing unlimited horizons, imagination, freedom of mind, internal discovery, experience of mystery, all you can see, sense and feel, create, witness and perceive .....

Thunderstorms, a stirring force, accompanied and balanced by wind and gentle rain,

Or think to the autumn colours, changing every single day, the uniqueness of waves in the ocean,

and the fine tiny lines on hands, on leaves, the skin of trees, a profound look into the eyes of another sentient being, a soulful smile...

A moment of stillness in midst of a chaotic world, returning to a warm shelter on a cold day, a cup of tea and a warm blanket, a loving embrace, a heartfelt conversation with a kindered spirit, poetry, a stirring artwork of colours so vibrant, so multilayered, all the colours we can see, black and grey shading dimensions into our vision, our abilities to comprehend, to learn from experience and remember, to move, to understand, the way we can compose with words and create stories and tales. The whole universe in our minds.

Sometimes nothing can seem to help or give us a moment of comfort and safety... in these moments, maybe you can find shelter and warmth by retreating into the ‘‘little things'', which are not actually that little, when you look closely. They are where everything else comes and evolves from, so turning to them, tuning deeply into them, connecting with them, can guide us back to the depth we crave, the shelter and the comfort we seek. They can help to bring us back to the root, the core, the essence, where things begin, they can guide us from being scattered or lost outside to finding ''home'' again within.

How does consciousness ever begin? How could that possibly occur? And is that question any less enigmatic than trying to figure how it might arise at a later date? Is consciousness synonymous with everything? - Robert Lanza / Bob Berman

This Maitreya statue stands 13 meters tall, weighs over 700 tons, with the Buddha's head alone weighing 27 tons, carved from a single piece of stone.

The stone carving of Maitreya Buddha statue in Wutai Shan Buddhist Garden depicts a constant smiling expression, welcoming all sentient beings. The Buddha has large ears that extend down his shoulders, symbolizing profound blessings. His rotund belly represents great capacity and compassion. He holds a string of prayer beads in his right hand, placed on his knee, while his left hand holds a bag of blessings. He sits on the throne in a playful posture. The base of the Buddha is hexagonal, representing the practice of the six perfections, which are the foundation for achieving Buddhahood. Each face of the base is intricately carved with the images of five hundred Arhats (known as Luohan in Chinese). Originally, the term "five hundred Arhats" referred to the highest realization attainable by those practicing Buddhism. Later, it evolved to denote individuals who have achieved the status of Arhat. Generally, it refers to the five hundred monks who participated in the first Buddhist council after the passing of Buddha Shakyamuni, led by Mahakasyapa and Ananda.

Now, the tallest Maitreya Buddha statue in North America sits enthroned in Wutai Shan Buddhist Garden in Canada. Venerable Dayi's aspiration is for the sacred image of Maitreya Bodhisattva to not only solemnize the spiritual ground but also to bestow blessings upon sentient beings in Canada and around the world. Thus, when you see this remarkable and magical statue of Maitreya, you can pay homage and join your palms together in reverence, forming a karmic connection with the future Buddha, and surely there will be grounds to attain Buddhahood!

Jawas are a sentient species of meter-tall humanoids native to the desert world of Tatooine. They are scavengers, searching for droids and scraps which they would capture and sell to the local residents, forming a codependent circle of trade.

The Hall of Sudhana (Hall of Shan Cai) is a multifunctional hall named after a giant relief sculpture. The lifelike figures depicted in this huge sculpture number fifty-three in total. There is also a fascinating story behind it.

The Pilgrimage in Pursuit of Enlightenment Guided by 53 Mentors depict the entire process of a practitioner attaining Buddhahood. The practitioner in this story is none other than the attendant of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, Sudhana Boy.

According to the Avatamsaka Sutra, Sudhana Boy made extensive offerings to past Buddhas, cultivating profound virtues and always rejoicing in purity. He accumulated immense merit and blessings. Sudhana Boy was born in the city of Awakening in India, and at the time of his birth, seven great treasures naturally appeared in his household. Additionally, at the moment of his birth, five hundred precious vessels materialized, leading his parents to name him "Sudhana."

As Sudhana grew up, he was influenced by the teachings and inspiration of Manjushri Bodhisattva. Sudhana embarked on a challenging journey to seek the Dharma. He tirelessly traveled southward, visiting various virtuous individuals. His visits included Bodhisattvas, monks, nuns, Upasakas, Upasikas, etc., totaling fifty-three virtuous individuals. This is the famous "Pilgrimage in Pursuit of Enlightenment Guided by 53 Mentors".

Sudhana's journey of visits and study exemplifies the path to Buddhahood. It teaches us the importance of perseverance and an open-minded approach to learning Buddhism in a humble way.

The Pilgrimage in Pursuit of Enlightenment Guided by 53 Mentors is a representative work of Mahayana Buddhism. Like every practitioner, Sudhana's heart was childlike. During his spiritual journey, he approached, observed, contemplated, and made choices in relation to each accomplished individual. He chose to learn from their virtues and kept his distance from their flaws.

Among his 53 mentors, the twenty-seventh was Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, who cared deeply for him. After acquiring the Dharma, Sudhana returned to the side of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva and assisted in the Bodhisattva's compassionate mission to guide sentient beings.

This is the story of the Hall of Sudhana and the Pilgrimage in Pursuit of Enlightenment Guided by 53 Mentors at Wutai Shan Buddhist Garden.

The Mountain and Earth Deity Shrine

Amituofo! This small red shrine is dedicated to the local protector deities of Wutai Shan, known in Chinese as: the Tudigong.

While this shrine might not seem as magnificent as the other sacred places of Wutai Shan, it is still the most luxurious Tudigong shrine in North America. Traditional Tudigong shrines are often very small, with many having no building at all.

Why do we worship the Tudigong? The belief in Earth deities has a long history and has already become deeply ingrained in our daily lives.

There are many ancient myths and novels that reference the Tudigong. For example, in Journey to the West, as Tang Sanzang and his disciples travel to the Western Paradise to obtain Buddhist scriptures, Sun Wukong summons the Tudigong of each location to learn about its ecosystem. This shows the close relationship that nature deities have to our daily lives.

In Buddhism, the Tudigong is referred to as the "Steadfast Earth God," and there are records of the Steadfast Earth God in various Mahayana sutras. For instance, in the twenty-first chapter of the Lalitavistara Sutra (“Subduing The Demons”), it is mentioned that when The Buddha first attained enlightenment, a Steadfast Earth God emerged from the ground to bear witness, and respectfully presented a seven-jewelled vase filled with fragrant flowers as an offering to the World-Honoured One. Similarly, in the Sutra of the Past Vows of Earth Store Bodhisattva, The Buddha praises the Steadfast Earth God for nourishing and benefitting all sentient beings.

There is a Tudigong shrine at Wutai Shan because on one hand, workers need to dig up the land for new building projects, potentially harming unseen lifeforms. On the other hand, it is a way to express gratitude for the Tudigong’s silent blessings and protection. Through-out the construction process for Wutai Shan, whether it was excavating Wisdom Lake or digging through soil to build various temple halls, the local Tudigong have provided us with many incredible blessings. In Buddhism, the concept of Dependent Origination is highly valued, and having a shrine for these deities is a way to show appreciation for their assistance in the construction of Wutai Shan Buddhist Garden.

"What is it that makes Ravager such a charming sort?

Is it his stinger tail, whose venom burns like the bites of a million fireflyers? His ruthless skill with sword and shield?

Or is it that he has never seen two bricks together that he did not want to blow apart, or a living thing that he did not feel would be better off dead?"

This MOC was inspired by a little theory of mine: what if Ravager's sentient Sword and Shield were in fact cursed weapons that had transformed him into an ideal host?

Perhaps that might explain why Ravager lost his memory, had those destructive urges, and why it was hard for TSO to find another like him.

Maybe this is what he turns into when they're fed enough...

A "World Peace Ten Thousand Buddhas Sarira Stupa Temple" has been constructed on 3 acres of land in Niagara Falls in order to facilitate the expounding of Dharma and the propagation of Buddhism. Spreading the Dharma and benefitting all sentiment beings are the Buddhist Order's vows. Since the appearances of statues and stupas facilitate the generation of the Bodhi-mind, raising temples could benefit sentient beings in countless multitudes. Canada is renowned for its serene and picturesque environment. A Bronze Buddha Statue and a Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara's statue are situated in this property so numerous tourists and devotees can cherish this great chance to make offerings and pay homage to the Buddha.

«They're made out of meat.

From a series of stories titled,"Alien/Nation," in the April issue of Omni. Terry Ballantine Bisson. 1991.

"They're made out of meat."

"Meat?"

"Meat. They're made out of meat."

"Meat?"

"There's no doubt about it. We picked several from different parts of the

planet, took them aboard our recon vessels, probed them all the through.

They're completely meat."

"That's impossible. What about the radio signals? The messages to the stars."

"They use the radio waves to talk, but the signals don't come from them. The

signals come from machines."

"So who made the machines? That's who we want to contact."

"They made the machines. That's what I'm trying to tell you. Meat made the

machines."

"That's ridiculous. How can meat make a machine? You're asking me to believe in

sentient meat."

"I'm not asking you, I'm telling you. These creatures are the only sentient

race in the sector and they're made out of meat."

"Maybe they're like the orfolei. You know, a carbon-based intelligence that

goes through a meat stage."

"Nope. They're born meat and they die meat. We studied them for several of

their life spans, which didn't take too long. Do you have any idea the life

span of meat?"

"Spare me. Okay, maybe they're only part meat. You know, like the weddilei. A

meat head with an electron plamsa brain inside."

"Nope. We thought of that, since they do have meat heads like the weddilei. But

I told you, we probed them. They're meat all the way through."

"No brain?"

"Oh, there is a brain all right. It's just that the brain is made out of meat!"

"So... what does the thinking?"

"You're not understanding, are you? The brain does the thinking. The meat."

"Thinking meat! You're asking me to believe in thinking meat!"

"Yes, thinking meat! Conscious meat! Loving meat. Dreaming meat. The meat is

the whole deal! Are you getting the picture?"

"Omigod. You're serious then. They're made out of meat."

"Finally. Yes, they are indeed made out meat. And they've been trying to get in

touch with us for almost a hundred of their years."

"So what does the meat have in mind."

"First it wants to talk to us. Then I imagine it wants to explore the universe,

contact other sentients, swap ideas and information. The usual."

"We're supposed to talk to meat?"

"That's the idea. That's the message they're sending out by radio. 'Hello.

Anyone out there? Anyone home?' That sort of thing."

"They actually do talk, then. They use words, ideas, concepts?"

"Oh, yes. Except they do it with meat."

"I thought you just told me they used radio."

"They do, but what do you think is on the radio? Meat sounds. You know how when

you slap or flap meat it makes a noise? They talk by flapping their meat at

each other. They can even sing by squirting air through their meat."

"Omigod. Singing meat. This is altogether too much. So what do you advise?"

"Officially or unofficially?"

"Both."

"Officially, we are required to contact, welcome, and log in any and all

sentient races or multibeings in the quadrant, without prejudice, fear, or

favor. Unofficially, I advise that we erase the records and forget the whole

thing."

"I was hoping you would say that."

"It seems harsh, but there is a limit. Do we really want to make contact with

meat?"

"I agree one hundred percent. What's there to say?" `Hello, meat. How's it

going?' But will this work? How many planets are we dealing with here?"

"Just one. They can travel to other planets in special meat containers, but

they can't live on them. And being meat, they only travel through C-space.

which limits them to the speed of light and makes the possibility of their ever

making contact pretty slim. Infinitesimal, in fact."

"So we just pretend there's no one home in the universe."

"That's it."

"Cruel. But you said it yourself, who wants to meet meat? And the ones who have

been aboard our vessels, the ones you have probed? You're sure they won't

remember?"

"They'll be considered crackpots if they do. We went into their heads and

smoothed out their meat so that we're just a dream to them."

"A dream to meat! How strangely appropiate, that we should be meat's dream."

"And we can marked this sector unoccupied."

"Good. Agreed, officially and unofficially. Case closed. Any others? Anyone

interested on that side of the galaxy?"

"Yes, a rather shy but sweet hydrogen core cluster intelligence in a class nine

star in G445 zone. Was in contact two galactic rotation ago, wants to be

friendly again."

"They always come around."

"And why not? Imagine how unbearably, how unutterably cold the universe would

be if one were all alone."

1991. Terry Ballantine Bisson.

Daniel Popper's sculpture, "Sentient," seems more like it should have a different name when seen in total. "Scatterbrain" is just one of the alternate titles I came up with for this one. Whatever you wish it call it, it was one of eight sculptures that was on display until 2023 at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL. The South African Popper's sculptures were the featured attractions during the "Human+Nature" exhibit that ran from May 2021 to March 2023. "Human+Nature" was part of an ongoing series of two-year long exhibitions at the Arboretum. A new exhibit took its place May 2023, and that one ended on March 2, 2025. The newest exhibit is set to open in May 2025.

Prasat Preah Khan means Temple of Sacred Sword. It is one of the rare temples that keeps its original name from 12th century. The temple was build by the king Jayavarman VII., one of the greatest ruler of the Khmer Empire. The temple is dedicated to his father and Bodhisattva Lokeshvara - the Lord who looks upon the world with compassion. According to Mahāyāna doctrine, Lokeshvara is the bodhisattva who has made a great vow to assist sentient beings in times of difficulty and to postpone his own buddhahood until he has assisted every sentient being in achieving nirvana.
