As always, when post-processing Milky Way shots, I end-up being impressed by the endless stars out there. So many that they look like clouds. So many that you can even see some through the trees branches... And when you think that the Milky Way is just one of an endless number of galaxies in the universe… The inevitable feeling is that there has got to be some form of sentient life somewhere! Due to the unimaginably long travel time, we aren’t (and most certainly won’t) become aware of their existence (and vice-versa), but “aliens” certainly do exist somewhere out there…

It's a human thing to humanise, when you look at Animals, Insects, Spiders, what have you, and notice expressions that we then mentally transmute empirically the emotions, yet do such creatures honestly feel this?! Really depends, many argue that such neurological behaviour must extend from sentience, but how do we judge that? Or measure it? If someone sees a shade of a blue sky and is aware that another may see an alternative hue of, more or less the same colour of blue, could it be argued that one's existential emotion is exact to that of another, now throw in an entirely different species and ponder the question again.
I took this shot of the spider and then saw the "expression" in its eyes, so to speak; a look that I perceive as of guilt and a desperation to change, from this psychopathic killing machine to a more sentient and appreciative being. But that's just me!

36 % sont des êtres humains, 60% des animaux d'élevages pour nourrir l'humanité, et seulement 4 % sont des animaux sauvages. 4%... Comment avons-nous pu fermer les yeux sur notre folie ? Enfant j'étais déjà fasciné par les animaux. Jamais je n'aurais cru pouvoir vivre toutes ces années à leurs côtés. J'ai sans doute vécu les meilleurs années de ma vie en admirant la nature mais surtout en prenant conscience que nous ne sommes pas seuls. La planète n'est pas notre dû et les animaux ne sont pas à notre service. Des siècles d'héritages culturels, religieux, philosophiques nous l'ont fait croire mais il n'en est rien ...et si on retrouvait l'enfant qui sommeille en nous ? Ils ne sont ni nos amis, ni nos ennemis mais ils aimeraient juste qu'on les laisse tranquille... à MÉDITER

As a child I was already fascinated by animals. I never thought I could live all these years with them. I have undoubtedly lived the best years of my life admiring nature but especially realizing that we are not alone. The planet is not our due and animals are not at our service. Centuries of cultural, religious and philosophical heritage have made us believe it, but it is not so ... what if we found the child that lies dormant in us? They are neither our friends nor our enemies but they would just like us to leave them alone ...

The Noonans were a sentient mammalian species native to the Outer Rim planet Noona in the Noona orbit system. Their homeworld became part of the Relgrim sector, an area of space explored between 3,000–25 BBY, (Galactic history). Contrary to popular belief The Noonans are not completely extinct; they come out at night and perform strange rituals in pockets of urban areas disguised as pubs.
Here some of the Noonans, under the name 'Swinging Black Jacks' playing for Saturday night revelers. Matt Allen, Gary Kendall and Adam David are the usual protagonists.

Native insects enjoying living without the stress of drought. Droughts are believed to cause anxiety to insects living in organized societies.
Perhaps insects are more sentient than we had imagined in their own way.

Today I had the pleasure of meeting my friends piglets, they were just so gorgeous running around and playing together.I had a wonderful couple of hours giving mum a rub, lying in the muck and photographing them with a clear conscience.
Spent couple of hours last Sunday at nearby animal shelter with these beautiful sentient beings who'd end up in a slaughterhouse if it wasn't for a young lady and her mother who decided to save the lives instead of have them on their plate.

A male goshawk protecting his prey. I know it's nature and I understand the necessity but I always feel sorry for the animal that is captured, in this case a water snipe. All life is precious so you should never lose compassion for all sentient beings.
Along the canal (by Kaiserin Augusta Allee) last Summer I came across a pair of Swans, which I suspected were a mated pair and I was able to get very close to them, it was when I got close enough to start snapping away I noticed one had been blinded in one eye, whether this a result of a fight or an accident of course will never be known. But it certainly brought home the ferociousness of creatures that live in the wild. I think it's incredible how they just find a way to continue on regardless.

Far from any town, near an old, abandoned research facility, the sound of a door being blown off its hinges breaks the otherwise undisturbed silence.
Out of the dark, musty interior of the building, an orange mist slithers silently into the open. As it exits the building, it begins to coalesce, forming into a concentrated glob, and moving in an unnerving, unnatural manner, almost as if it were sentient, guided by a phantom mind...Having gathered itself into a single, undulating mass, the mist pauses mid-air for a moment, and then, in an instant, bolts off into the distance, headed straight toward the nearest farmstead..
Something has awoken... some thing.

Because this is the Essence Mantra of the Tul ku, it is related to the sutric view. This mantra is commonly called the DU TRI SU mantra. The first four syllables represent the Dershek Tsozhi, the Four Principal Enlightened Ones of Yungdrung Bön who are Satrik Érsang, Shenlha Ökar, Sangpo Bumtri and Lord Tönpa Shenrap. The following syllables represent purification of the lower realms and protection from inner and outer negative forces. According to the Great Lama Drenpa Namkha, if this mantra is recited and blown to the sole of the feet of a sentient being that is dying, it is pushing the being’s conscious towards the crown of the head and that being will not be born into the lower realms. Also, if one experiences nightmares, reciting this mantra in the morning will dispel the negative energy.
In the Himalayan region, it is traditional for a Bönpo family to have one or all of these Three Essence Mantras carved into wood or stone and hung above the entrance to the home. Carving these mantras into stone, printing them on prayer flags or wearing amulets containing these mantras brings immeasurable blessings and protection.

In this series of 4 photos, the theme is "caught". The Praying mantis in this shot flew into a spider's web in my yard where it was destined to be eaten. I saw the drama and snatched the insect from the web before the spider was able to despatch it.
With web all over its body and legs, the Praying mantis was vulnerable and unable to fly away. Holding it in my hand I brought it inside and using tweezers went about removing the web from its body. To my surprise the insect made no effort to resist or escape, It seemed to know that I was helping it.
We were together for the best part of an hour, and in that time it never took its eyes off me. Even when I moved behind it, its eyes were still on me. After a while and with it still on one hand, I got my camera and began to take photos of our interaction. There were many photos, and not all were well focused (I don't do single handed macros all that well).
As I removed spider web from the mantis' legs, it meticulously cleaned its limbs with its mouth. In this shot the mantis is cleaning one of its legs, while a tangle of spider's web can be seen on the other leg. At the bottom of the shot you can see the tip of my index finger on which the mantis is resting.
For me this was an amazing and moving interaction with a creature we may never think of as intelligent or sentient, but on this occasion I experienced both. I held and helped the mantis until it was free of web and completely clean. Then I took it outside, held it up to the breeze and it flew away.

Magical time, not Day, not yet Night, but things are starting to twitch and move in the dark corners of the laboratory.
