I thought I'd check the sensor with my first shot. It is easier to blow up in FlickR. I also wanted to make sure the card would upload files. I formatted the card to the camera. It read image 5871. I guess it is possible that this is the 5871st actuation, unless the total had been reset. Who know. Who cares. As long as it takes great pictures.
This 24-70/f2.8 lens is WAY heavier than I thought. I think I am going to buy a lighter wide angle lens soon. I think I want a lens that is little easier to carry as I learn. I still think this is a great lens.
Sensor cleaning - Attempt 2, a little better but still smudges. it's pretty bad on the left and right edges and still weird specs of dust/ fibre around.
I finally got around to getting a Rocket Blower and sensor pen to try and clean up my sensor on my D40. Turns out I didn't need to use the pen as the blower seems to have cleaned it up nicely.

Installing the chamber for the running loop sensors. The sensors are set below the footpath. The cables run into the chamber (shown), down the bank and link to the data display.
They are housed in a custom made bolt down frame, which is set into the path.
Pictured is Ian. He is impossible to please, but a first class constructor.
