I cleaned my D200 sensor today and took this test shot. Turns out the sky is really beautiful here today. Sunset tonight should be gorgeous...
Holes in foam have been made and sensor circuit board partially soldered. Just trying out the rough layout of everything, to make sure it seems reasonable.
The sensor is mounted close to a toothed gear. As each tooth moves past the sensor, an AC voltage pulse is induced in the coil. The ECM (engine control module ) determines the speed the toothed gear is revolving based on the number of pulses. The number of pulses in one second is the signal frequency. Ford Transit minibus. Testing the D7000 sensor, dark subject focusing and metering. This shot was taken with very little light, it was almost dark, right after my last sunset pics and I could barely see the building on the trail back to my vehicle. Aperture priority @f11 and let the camera do the rest, meter and focus. I am impressed especially with the detail captured in the shadows under the roof.
You need to be steady handed to replace the battery in this one!

this is a general piece about dirty sensors.
A heads up to all those 'spots' in
your sky photos that you may think is a dirty lens.
I moonlight at our local camera shop and one of my tasks is to clean sensors.
I've cleaned a slew of them now and have seen some stuff!
A- not the worse I've seen, but a good example of a dirty sensor!
B- same sensor after cleaning
C- a shot of the sky to show what a dirty sensor adds to a photo(not the same sensor as A/B)
D- a test shot to see how dirty the sensor
You can clean the sensor yourself or have it done professionally.
There are many tutorials on the web about how to do it.
Just be careful ... the sensor IS your camera.

The line sensor effective lenght is 64mm as detector. The exposure is done with a 650 nm laser line.

Here's some before and after shots of my project to clean my sensor. As you can see in the before, it was a flippin' mess. In the after (though dark, sorry dreary day) you can see the lack of dust.
I used a Giottos Rocket Blower, 3 #2 Sensor Swabs and Eclipse liquid from Photographic Solutions, Inc., and the Sensor Brush from Visible Dust.
BTW, #2 sensor swabs don't actually come into contact with the XT's sensor unless you use them vertically. The Sensor Brush does a great job, but you really gotta get it charged up with static. They should make one with fuzzy slippers and carpet.
It has been said that the cx sensor in the nikon 1 sucks because the sensor is small. Small sensors have increased depth of field and gather less photons. So I set up a comparison of dx and cx on the Nikon platform, a d7000 and a v2. Lenses are equivalent normal primes at 1.8 max aperture.
As you can see, increase in dof is obvious on cx. Not so obvious is the light gathering edge of dx in the shadows, there is more glow in the shadows on dx, a more sharp cutoff on cx. The auto wb on the v2 did a much better job.
