We had our self check out machines like this for a few weeks thanks to a software "upgrade".

Today was a machine fail day

This is the way a self checkout machine decided to spit out my change. I anticipated 15 pence to be made out of a 10p piece and a 5p piece, as a human operator would. What I got was six coins including some worthless coppers which served to clog up my pockets until I can get rid of them. Not easy when everything has a price ending in .99

There's a special line to wait to use the self-serve checkout. To keep social distances, only every other self-checkout machine is available. Once a person is done using the machine, a store clerk walks over to the machine and wipes it down. There's also a thin plastic wrap over the card terminal — which I believe is replaced often.

Bed Bath & Beyond #110 (36,450 square feet)

975-A Emmet Street North, Barracks Road Shopping Center, Charlottesville, VA

Opened in August 1996

This was my first time seeing a Bed Bath & Beyond with self-checkout offered, though Newport News may have offered it as well. Just thought I'd capture a photo of the interface since it'll probably be lost media soon enough.
