The atrium gets crazy busy on Monday nights as everyone's waiting to check out their books, movies and music for the week.

At Target self-checkout scanning a peanut butter trail mix caused a warning to pop up. Had to wait for helper to take away item + type in codes to continue checkout process. She was baffled why system would want this item not sold. Like how a nationally recalled item would be treated.

This is our self checkout station. We call her "Rosie," after the robot from "The Jetsons." Remember? She had a robotic New Jersey-ish accent. Sometimes, Rosy gets dressed up for the holidays.

We just upgraded from one self-checkout station to two in April 2008! This is the Red Wing Public Library in Red Wing, MN.

Customers appreciate the fast and easy self-checkout option.

On January 25, 2011 Libraries around Florida participated in taking photos that make up "A Day In the Life of Libraries". All 5 CPLS branches took part, giving cameras to staff and patrons to document the special things that happen in a library every day of the week!

In the Lobby is the Express Holds area with four self check-out machines.

The Howe Library has one self-check machine. I like how they make using it seem like a cool/fun thing to do, not "we're too busy to serve you, please figure this machine out"

Once equipped with a stool, this child quickly learned to use self-checkout at the South Bowie Library.

To introduce out new self check out system at the Edgefield Library, we offered a drawing for a 3M package of office supplies. Ms. Bess won our prize checking out Bride and Prejudice.

The downside to this option is students can not get discounts on movies. In order for students to receive their discounts they must wait in line and show the theater staff a student ID. There are pros and cons to every purchasing method.

Benjamin Branch is our first library to eliminate the traditional check-out desk and implement a self-check system. This puts library staff on the floor helping customers as needed, not behind a desk.

Many people use the library's atrium as a meeting place for group projects.
