Found this unusual security lock on a gate to some farmland. I have never seen one like this before so.........up came the camera and click.

Shot in RAW, which I do now, then I used two textures.

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.

MOMA security guard keeps an eye on Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (The Young Ladies of Avignon). It's a fine line between Cubism and voyeurism. And yes, this one creeps me out too.

Partially closed security shutters in front of a San Francisco business

There are many things I enjoy about doing street photograph, and several of them have to do with the fast-moving and spontaneous nature of the pursuit. The urban environment, at least once you start seeing its possibilities, can be an almost overwhelmingly rich source of potential subjects, to that point that I often have to make a subconscious choice to deal with only a subset of them at any given moment. For a while I may focus on color, then I may engage with human subjects, then it might be effects of light, or balances of shapes and mass, or tiny details, or...

As we turned down this block between Stockton and Grant during an evening of night street photography in San Francisco, for some reason I made one of these gear changes. Moments before I had been photographing people and the fronts of shops that were closing up for the day — but as I walked down this street I forgot about all of that and instead photographed mostly small details such as the accordion pattern of this security panel over a window.

From their site: "Animatic Con started in March of 2015 with the idea of delivering to the fandoms across the U.S. a convention that was fun, and had a higher purpose. This guy was providing security at the event - no - for real! How many people do you think tried to sneak past him or cause any trouble? I know I didn't and wouldn't! How about you?

Because Heather asked.... This is the end of a rack I built to hold the camper shell I had on my pickup truck in 2011, when I visited Heathers home in Ontario as part of the travels. I prefer having my truck open ;-). I made the rack to keep it off the ground- it's some cinderblocks with 2x4s arranged in a grid. This is looking down at the top of a piece of steel rebar I ran through the hood to keep it from sliding around. The light on the wood is what caught my attention, and abstracting it from the larger scene gives it mystery.

The U.S. Army regularly trains combat brigades for crisis deployment in non-war situations to support U.S. diplomacy. This layout of long fixed tables is unpopular with students and the college is introducing smaller tables and movable chairs. The flooring was deliberately chosen for the space as it is hardwearing, it also has the feature that users walking on it naturally 'buff up' its finish - giving it a shiny appearance.

Some time ago I was taking pictures of the reflections in these windows before I realised that inside there were little kids running about in swimming trunks - I beat a hasty retreat before anyone got the wrong idea. The centre is now closed so I thought I'd re-visit the reflections - I was trying to figure out what was going on with the crazy blue light inside when I was joined by "security".
