Minlaton – original Institute
Our institute was finished on Saturday last according to the terms of the agreement, and duly handed over to the trustees by Mr Crawford, the contractor, who by the character of the work performed has given satisfaction to. all concerned. The building is 50 feet by 20 feet, inside measurement, and is well and solidly constructed.
Every care has been taken to secure its thorough ventilation, and a very handsome centrepiece ornaments the ceiling. Rooms will be built at the rear of the structure for the use of those who may engage the hall for lecturing and other purposes, and additions will also be made to the front in due time.
A lending library has long been established, and as soon as it can be rendered available for the purpose, the hall will be fitted up as a reading room. [Ref: Wallaroo Times and Mining Journal 26-1-1881]
On Wednesday last, Feb 16, our sleepy hollow of a township put on quite a holiday appearance. Flags fluttered in the wind at front of the Institute, while the number of saddle horses and vehicles which were to be seen, showed that a great gathering of outsiders had taken place for the purpose of being present at the opening of the building in question.
The public tea was held at 5 pm in the hall. A concert was also held.
Mr Carter, the head teacher of the school, proposed two years ago that subscriptions should be raised in order that an Institute might be erected and although the idea was pooh poohed to a great extent at the time, he persevered until he attained the object he had in view. The building has cost £417 and the sums paid, in addition to those promised towards the outlay, amount to £341 leaving a balance of £76 which has been reduced to about £56 by the proceeds of the tea and concert.
The handsome chandeliers are a great improvement on the wall lamps seen in older Institutes.

The building housed meetings for the Oddfellows and Rechabites, church functions, court room, dances and theatrical performances. A skating rink was provided until 1948.
A number of extensions and alterations were made over the next few decades and the Council took over the property and assets of the Institute in April 1935.
Plans and specifications are being prepared by the architects, Messrs E H McMichael and Harris, for the additions and reconstruction of the Institute Buildings. It is expected that the work will be commenced early in the New Year. [Ref: The Pioneer 9-12-1938]
MINLATON'S NEW TOWN HALL – the rebuilt Institute
The opening of the new Town Hall at Minlaton takes place at 3 o'clock this afternoon and will be performed by the Lord Mayor of Adelaide (Mr A G Barrett).
There will be a guard of honour composed of school children in charge of the head teacher (Mr F Hauser). The members of the Minlaton Brass Band will be in attendance and play selections, in addition to a street march, until 3pm.
The Committee has wisely decided to carry on the programme for the celebrations from the stage.
In the main hall after the singing of “The Song of Australia" the Chairman of the Minlaton District Council will welcome the visitors, and hand over to the Lord Mayor a souvenir key of the building. The Lord Mayor will officially declare the building open.
Mr J E Darby (President of the Minlaton Institute) will refer to the architects and contractors, to which Messrs McMichael and Dallwitz will reply. Mr Jos Williams will thank Mr W V Benbow for his magnificent donation, and will also refer to the visit of representatives from the Institutes Association.
Mr D M S Davies MP, will move a vote of thanks to the Lord Mayor.
After the National Anthem, the building will be open for inspection until 5 pm.
In the evening there will be a Grand Ball at 8.30 for which special arrangements are being made.
On Saturday night Benbows will re-open with an attractive picture programme.
On Sunday the anniversary of the Baptist Sunday School will be held in the new hall. [Pioneer 6-10-1939]
Coraline has been removed from the box, still attached to the backing. There is a wire around her ankles and her head, with the raincoat hood on, is stuffed securely in the plastic spacer.
I just got a new in box Coraline Bendy Doll, raincoat model. She is 7'' tall and has bendable limbs and torso, poseable head and removable face. It was released by NECA in 2008, for the Coraline stop action animated movie by Henry Selick. My doll was made in 2011, and does not have the doll stand that was included in the original version. The doll is no longer in production. It has a common defect of these dolls - the tip of her nose has the paint rubbed off. Her nose it very pointy, so it is prone to this problem. Because of this, I got her for a very good price from eBay. You can see some of the paint from the nose streaked on the inside of the plastic front window.
There are also two other Coraline bendy dolls in the same series, Casual Coraline (in sweater and jeans) and PJ Coraline (in pajamas).
She is a bendy doll, so is a good match for my newly acquired fully articulated 11'' Merida doll.

The Portuguese Air Force will conduct, between 15 and 26 June, the multinational exercise "EATT15", under the Tactical Air Transport Aircraft exercise programme of the European Defence Agency. The exercise will be hosted at Air Base 11, in Beja, being the activities planned to take place in the Centre / North of Portugal.
This exercise will involve the Portuguese Armed Forces and forces of Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, Romania, Sweden and the UK, as well as, observers from Brazil, the United States and Poland.
The EATT15 aims to train and prepare the crews of Air Force tactical aviation squadrons, guaranteeing that the participating forces are ready to carry out the tasks assigned to them in any theatre of operations within the European alliance areas of operation. In addition to the individual training, the exercise will develop a better interoperability among the various participating forces.

Crushing win against the Dee

In a keenly anticipated local derby, Donaghadee briefly took the lead by 3-8, until Bangor produced what is becoming something of a trademark in turning the game around, and responded with a further 53 unanswered points to win convincingly by 56-8.
The sun certainly shone on Upritchard Park on Saturday – our final corporate lunch of the season, glorious playing conditions, the earlier loss to Donaghadee avenged with style, and the 6 Nations secured in Paris. Also among the large crowd of spectators who lined the touchlines were Ulster stars Craig Gilroy and Mike McComish. With the pitch in perfect condition, and the weather conditions glorious, the scene was set for a great afternoon’s sport.
Like Bangor the week before, Donaghadee were catching up with their fixtures, and this marked their third game in 8 days. However, nobody would have thought it as they took the game to Bangor straight from the kick-off. Within a couple of minutes, they had forced a penalty in front of Bangor’s posts, which was successfully converted. However, this was soon cancelled out when the Dee conceded a penalty which Mark Thompson kicked to level the scores at 3-3 after just 6 minutes.
Worryingly for Bangor, the Dee back line were working well together and finding gaps through the centre of play. With 16 minutes gone, the Dee continued to press forward having once again broken through the Bangor line. Some slick passing from right to left found the Dee winger who ran in to score the first try of the day in the left hand corner and, with the conversion missed, re-take the lead by 3-8.
Having let the earlier game at Donaldson Park get too far away from them, Bangor knew that a quick response was needed. Most of the following play was in the Donaghadee twenty two, with Bangor patiently building their attacking platform. Although several waves were repelled by a stubborn Dee defence, persistence finally paid off when Andrew Jackson was driven over the line to score and level the scores once again.
Another successful penalty, this time by Neil Cuthbertson, put Bangor narrowly in front by 11-8 as the first half drew to a close.
One often wonders what magic words (or otherwise) are conjured up in the team huddle at half time. It may sound simple, but when play resumes Bangor appear to have identified the problems of the first half, and put together a plan to correct these in the second. As the Dee re-started the game, it is unlikely that their half time talk prepared them for what was to come.
Having immediately raised the tempo, an early Bangor attack was halted by the Dee centre killing the ball, and earning a yellow card as a result. From the penalty and subsequent line-out that followed, the well-proven ‘catch and drive’ was put to good effect, with Jamie Clegg getting the ball down in the right hand corner. The kick was missed, making the score 16-8.
At this early stage in the second half, the game was still wide open. Donaghadee’s big forwards worked hard in both the set pieces and rucks, but the positional kicking was not always as effective. On one such occasion, the high ball was safely taken in the Bangor twenty two by Richard Corbett who brought play infield before passing to Jason Morgan in the centre. Having then split the Dee back line with a great injection of pace, Morgan passed to full back Josh Devitt who had the simplest of runs to score under the posts. With Cuthbertson adding the extras, Bangor’s lead had stretched to 23-8.
It took just another 3 minutes to add a fourth try, and with it the bonus point. Once again, the move started deep in Bangor territory, with Mark Widdowson jinking his way towards the 10 metre line. Although well tackled, he managed to off-load to Morgan who advanced the move towards the Dee twenty two. Although Morgan’s path to the line was blocked, he made a well-timed pass outside to Curtis Stewart who came steaming up the left wing to score. The conversion was missed, but in the space of 10 minutes, Bangor had secured the bonus point and taken complete control as their lead was now 28-8.
As some Dee heads started to drop, and with a quarter of the game remaining, Bangor now went for the jugular. Another good combination of ball-handling and support play saw Morgan rewarded for his hard work, gathering a pop pass by Mike Weir to score under the posts. Jackson recorded his second try of the day 5 minutes later, rounding off a great move started by Ricky Armstrong, and then powerfully taken on by James Henly, before rounding the last defender to score. A further 5 minutes elapsed before Morgan got his second try, courtesy of an excellent run down the left wing by prop Phil Whyte. The rout was completed by Devitt who intercepted a loose Dee pass in his own twenty two before running the length of the pitch to top off a sparkling performance. With Cuthbertson converting all these tries, the final score had leapt to a comprehensive 56-8 victory.
This was another great Bangor performance that completely justified the final result. For the Dee, this may just have been a game too far in such a short period. However, on current form, Bangor have shown themselves to be a force to contend with, and with just 2 more league games remaining, will want to maintain this form and finish hard on Portadown’s heels. For Donaghadee’s part, their recent run of good results has placed them safely in the middle of the table, and their focus now will be on a testing Towns Cup semi-final at Ballynahinch. It would be fair to say that despite our close rivalry, we at Bangor wish them every success.

Not sure what this building is/was used for but it is very secure, it does overlook the Bristol Channel.
Belle is now fully deboxed. She is standing, supported by her included display stand. For some of the last photos, I decided to reverse the purse to show the rose rather than the lion. Also I placed the outer skirt a little to the left of where it was in the box pose, to show off her legs.
Deboxing Belle. After I removed the rubber band securing the purse chain to her shoulder, I had to use tape to keep it from slipping off of her shoulder (same as with Ariel's purse). Her dress is tight around her hips and legs, so I had to undo it in the back (as well as the outer skirt) in order to pull out the display stand. It was also hard to put the stand back on her. The bracelets are solid rings, so cannot be removed unless you pop off her hands, which I did not try to do.
I was lucky enough to get Belle at the Disney Store today. There was about 70 people entered in the raffle, the most of any release in the series, so I was surprised and happy that I got picked. She is the sixth and final Premiere Series doll to be released. She is #1132 of 4500. I now have all six of the dolls, all gotten first hand, and am glad that the releases are finally over.
I love Belle's face and hair, her Beast purse and her jewelry, but her dress isn't one of my favorites from this series. My doll has some stains on her face, that look like stray hair product. I will clean them off when I debox her. Some strands of her earrings were stuck in her hair, that I freed when I took all the covers off the doll box.

A father and baby wait to receive free healthcare during the Tropical Cyclone Harold humanitarian response in Vanuatu. UNFPA secured $241,000 through the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund to ensure the life-saving continuity of sexual and reproductive health services in affected provinces.
Lt. Gen. James Bucknall, deputy commander of NATO and International Security Assistance Forces in Afghanistan, went on his first battle field circulation, Sept. 25-28. Bucknall visited Provisional Reconstruction Teams in the Afghan provinces of Kunduz, Balkh, Faryhab, and Wardak. Through PRTs, ISAF supports reconstruction and development in Afghanistan, securing areas in which reconstruction work is conducted by other national and international actors. Der See Jökulsárlón (dt. „Gletscherflusslagune“) ist der bekannteste und größte einer Reihe von Gletscherseen in Island. Er liegt am Südrand des Vatnajökull auf dem Breiðamerkursander zwischen dem Skaftafell-Nationalpark und Höfn. Mit 248 Metern ist er der tiefste See Islands.
Der Jökulsárlón wird durch die auf ihm treibenden Eisberge charakterisiert, die eine Höhe von bis zu 15 Meter erreichen. Sie lösen sich von der Gletscherzunge des Breiðamerkurjökull ab.
Am Ufer des Sees befinden sich zahlreiche Wanderwege. Oft sind Farbunterschiede in den Eisbergen zu beobachten. Das Blau rührt von verschiedenen Kristallen im Eis und deren Reflexion her, das Schwarz von vulkanischer Asche.
In den Monaten Juni und Juli nisten die Großen Raubmöven (Skua) nahe dem Gletschersee. Weiterhin gibt es im Jökulsárlón Seehunde.
In der Nähe befinden zwei weitere Gletscherseen, der viel kleinere und abgelegenere Fjallsárlón, mit kleineren Eisbergen, sowie der Breiðárlón.
Der kurze Fluss aus diesem See heißt Jökulsá á Breiðamerkursandi, wie viele andere in Island auch. Er wird von einer Brücke der Ringstraße (Hringvegur) überspannt, die teilweise direkt neben dem See verläuft. Wegen der Meeresbrandung und der damit verbundene Erosion der Küste, nimmt die Gefahr, dass die Brücke unterspült wird, beständig zu. Dann würde die Ringstraße an dieser Stelle verschwinden, ebenso wie der Fluss, und der See würde zu einer Meeresbucht.
Der Gletschersee diente bereits als Schauplatz für bekannte Filmproduktionen wie James Bond – Stirb an einem anderen Tag, Tomb Raider und Batman Begins.

One of Europe's smallest birds, the big-voiced Wren uses a remarkable variety of habitats.
It is found from sea level to high up in mountain areas, from forest to almost open spaces; subspecies exist in remote island groups.
It spends most of the time low down, on or near the ground, often in deep thickets of bramble or bracken or in ornamental shrubberies.
Cold winters cause dramatic declines but Wren populations can recover quite quickly.
