The Vismarkt (Fish Market) in the Magdalena Quarter, southern Bruges, Flanders, Belgium.

At first, fish was sold on one of the Markt’s corners, but as the townspeople complained about the stench, the fishmongers were forced to move and sell their wares here. In the covered arcade (1821), specially erected for the purpose of selling fish, fresh seafish was sold, a delicacy that only the rich could afford. Today you can still buy your fresh saltwater fish here every morning from Wednesday to Saturday.

After seizing his prized treat, a Starfish, this juvenile Herring Gull took off running with it. Thankfully it seems the others around him were too interested in finding their own to worry about him.

Unicorn fish in Burgers Ocean

The unicorn fishes are 17 species of surgeonfishes in the genus Naso; all of which are marine fish living in tropical seas, usually around coral reefs. They are so named because of a spike that protrudes from its forehead; however some species have a bulbous protrusion rather than a pronounced spike, and some lack a spike altogether.

The species here is Spotted Unicorn Fish or Paletail Unicorn Tang (Naso brevirostris).

Burgers Ocean, a part of Burgers Zoo (Arnhem, the Netherlands), is a tropical reef, where you will find living corals, coral fishes, sharks, rays and many more animal species from the tropical seas in South-east Asia.

Highlight is a tunnel through a tank with sting rays and sharks swimming over your head.

It consists of 11 very big bassins with a total content of over 8 million litres of seawater. The largest bassin is protected by the largest window in the world, a 100 m2 and 35 cm thick. For keeping the water clean there are 10 km in piping and a pumping capacity of 1.050 m3 per hour. They are able to produce an equavilant of 57.000 litres seawater.

In the aquariums of Burgers Ocean live over 3000 fish in 160 species, and over 5000 invertebrates in over 200 species (including 3000 corals in about 100 species), plus numerous polyps and the like.

Eenhoornvis in Burgers Ocean

Fish for a good grilled :-))) HAPPY WEEKEND TO ALL !!!

The Bass or Bar is probably one of the most enviable fish species to catch . I love kayak fishing too . youtu.be/H-ujg4nkWmw

Welcome to 2016 .

The new season started pretty grim weather wise . Early january and no one have noticed the days are gradually getting longer . The wind is still blowing , the clouds are still threatening and you wonder why we are still venturing out there .The best way to beat the winter blues is actually to go there , where it hurts . So we decided to go local and find out for ourselves if there is any fish worth catching . Local is Rhu , little village near gareloch next to the mighty submarine base . No one wants to go kayak fishing in the winter , it's too cold , too windy , the fish are not biting and so on .We just go ! Today was shared between us , Tam , Glen and myself .We arrived early morning on the gritty beach and I got dressed first to avoid the nasty cold easterly . The first thing I saw was a rainbow , because it's sunny and it's raining .We paddled forced by the wind to the nearest big Green buoy and tied on the three of us . Light rod and baited sabiki was good enough to register some early bites . Mini cod to start the day , I don't do scales , must have been 20 grams and then a whitting .We stayed tied on there for a little while then moved on closer to shore close to the marina .We sheltered behind the massive pier and fished on . Plenty bites about , enough to keep us busy and forget about the cold . And then my light spinning rod doubled over and I kid you not , it must have been over two pound . Could have been a wrasse or a pollock and on inspection my little hook was straighten . Not to worry , it's still early day in the season and losing a fish or two will not make a difference , we are out there enjoying the scottish weather full on . We fished on still enjoying the day and then paddle back to our launching point ,the gritty beach .Today was our first outing 2016 .The fish tally was relatively poor with only 3 species caught . Saithe , Mini codling , and baby whitting .We paddled and sat about , and we stayed afloat . Who says the clyde estuary is dead ? The Clyde estuary is challenging to say the least .Tight line all through out 2016 ,get out there and fish .

And there is a Video .

Capable boat, can operate in gales as long as crew safety is not compromised.

Fishing with the largest mesh size in Europe for conservation ensures the escape of any juvenile/immature fish

Very targeted fishery due to large mesh sizes, negligible by catch.

If you dream of giant fish, choose your fishing holiday location wisely. In Northern Norway, record catches are the rule rather than the exception.

Hammerfest, Norway. The city of Hammerfest, Norway, is the northernmost city in Europe. ... Located well above the Arctic Circle, the city is in the "Land of the Midnight Sun". At the height of summer, residents experience continuous sunlight for many days.

Hammerfest is the northernmost .... is further south than Honningsvåg it has a population over 10,000, which is required by Norwegian law to achieve town status (law from 1997).

Engagement 800+

On Greenock Customs House Quay

This shore angling is a highly popular favourite pastime for some people around Greenock Waterfront and it seems this fella is taking it a little more serious than others. He already has two lines in the water and still preparing a third rod with bait. A glint of sunshine from over my shoulder enhanced what was a quite disappointing day weatherwise.

Once, I fished here, seems like a lifetime ago. Now I chase a picture.

While kayak fishing I was surprised enough to hook one of those langoustine .That's sea fishing on a kayak ,you never know what is going to bite next .This little critter was released free although another 20 of those would have made a great dinner .

One of a pair of small watercolours, with a very limited palette.
