With great help from Joei Lau from Visual Journal Club, I bought a clear stamp making kit in my last trip to Tokyo.

The kit is called EZStamp Maker from Taiyo-seiki, included within the box a 100% Japanese language usage manual. I can understand only 5% of it, but luckily with diagrams and 7 failures, I made it! A clear stamp of my favorite logo for use on tags, notebook, signature, etc.

Dabbed the stamp on VersaColor pigment ink pad I had some fun personalizing a lot of stuffs. I also used a 2 color dabber to put on red and black ink to make an even more appealing impression, but just black also look great.

The small fonts also works well even on Polaroid photos, I just have to learn to stamp with the right pressure.

This was hell. It was. I think at 3:00 we had been writting a script for three hours, but we got stuck on the plot and then everyone was so frustrated we were about to gnaw on each other.

Too many ideas-not enough conclusions alot of stuff was written down and thrown out because it was just goin into too much detail...which then would have added more and more scenes for the production people...scenes which then would have been hell to shoot and could have been hell to piece back together in edit.

Finally we took the most direct approach with the plot and handed it over to be directed.

French poster postcard by Sonis, no. C. 1397. Image: Lululolo@ Caracteres 1999. Poster for Taxi 3 (Gérard Pirès, 2003), produced by Luc Besson.

Luc Besson wrote the script for his action comedy Taxi (Gérard Pirès, 1998) in 30 days while he was waiting for Columbia Pictures to commit to the production go-ahead for The Fifth Element (1997). In Marseille, skilled and ageing pizza delivery boy Daniel (Samy Naceri) finally has his dreams come true. He gets a taxi license. Then he is caught in action during a huge speed infraction by a passenger who happens to be a police inspector. Afraid that he will lose his license, he decides to help Emilien (Frédéric Diefenthal), a loser who can't drive, on the track of the Mercedes gang, a group of violent German bank robbers. Daniel hopes he doesn't lose his dream job.

Luc Besson was too busy with The Fifth Element (1997) to direct Taxi (Gérard Pirès, 1998), so he decided to simply produce it. He presented his idea to his usual production company, Gaumont, but Gaumont had no trust in the project and turned Besson down. Besson went to two old friends, Michèle and Laurent Pétin, who headed the small production company ARP. They agreed on a 50/50 split, and Besson began searching for a director. He knew Gérard Pirès from long ago, but Pirès hadn't directed a film in 15 years. He had been directing commercials including ones for Peugeot, which made him a good fit for the project. For budgetary reasons, the location was chosen as Marseille and the actors were relatively unknown at the time. Better-known actors were approached, but they turned the project down. The young unknown actors were explained to financiers such as Canal+ as being easier to identify with for a young audience and also being a bet on the future. The main music theme is based on 'Misirlou', a popular song of Eastern Mediterranean origin.

Taxi (Gérard Pirès, 1998) is a thrill-packed, speedy comedy. The car chases are superb. Like the writing, the film was also shot in 30 days.110 cars were used during the making of the film. There is also a lot of humour and a few running gags ran through in the follow-ups, that start here. One involves the cab driver's beautiful girlfriend (Marion Cotillard). Taxi was the fourth most successful film in France for the year with 6.4 million admissions and a gross of $39.3 million. It had 2.2 million admissions abroad. It was followed by four sequels: Taxi 2 (2000), Taxi 3 (2003) and Taxi 4 (2007), all directed by Gerard Kraczyc and starring the same actors. Taxi 5 (Franck Gastambide, 2018) had a new cast and crew. In the US, 20th Century Fox released a remake of Taxi (Tim Story, 2004) starring Queen Latifah. It was also produced by Luc Besson. Taxi also provided the premise for the 2014 American television show, Taxi Brooklyn. In terms of box office admissions, the Taxi series is one of the most successful French franchises ever.
