Looking North towards Kentmere.
After severe flash floods in Kendal 4 hours earlier, the storm cleared the air a little. I headed up to Scout Scar to make the most of the interesting skies. Whilst I was up there, the clouds moved swiftly and the low sun cast a lovely light, whilst clouds still hung over the high fells to the north and dark clouds backed the Howgills.
I tried what I'd been led to believe gave a pretty deep DOF on an Oly (f8) but with my longer lens, it just wasn't getting the front to back sharpness we need for the module. So I experimented a bit and found that f11 or f13 seemed to give the best balance. I used the rule of thumb of focusing about 1/3 of the way into the picture. A couple of shots I think I focussed too close, so the distance was just a little soft.

Our first hike was to Scout Lake. Scout Lake is a 2km (1.24 mile) round trip hike with an elevation change of 125 metres. We saw some gorgeous landscape along the way.

The Bonfire Yell is one of the highlights of the annual Scouting Camporee. The boy scouts and girl scouts of SFAMSC show off their talents in dance, acting, and singing as they perform their cheers and yells exulting the values of scouting and challenging the other patrols to do better with friendly jabs that help spark healthy competition. To give their very best performance, each patrol dedicate many days to choreograph and practice their yells. This activity helps develop important life skills such as cooperation, teamwork, creativity, and the strength of character to be able to perform publicly. Audiences are usually surprised so see once timid and shy students shine and give it their all in the Bonfire Yell.
