New Holland Honeyeater (Phylidonyris novaehollandiae)
Nev's extended family are back in our garden. No doubt scouting around for the best nesting spots for the coming season.
The limestone meets the sea at Jack Scout on Morecambe Bay. The sky was looking good for a sunset as I walked through the woods near Silverdale, so I headed here to the cliffs, only to witness another "cloud hoover" of the sky!
So looking for a bit of foreground interest I found this area of limestone with a small clump of "Sea Thrift". The rocks provide a bit of a lead into the Kent Estuary and you can see the Central Lake District fells in the far distance as the sun sets over Southern Cumbria.
The Semipalmated Plover is quite different than the peeps migrating through Homer, Alaska. It doesn't have a long beak to sift through the mud as they do. It searches for its prey visually as it runs for a bit, then stops and looks, and then grabs at any food within range. It doesn't fly with the peeps but on its own, chirping all the while. That said, it's a marvelous bird to watch.
Taken 11 May 2020 at Homer, Alaska.
This is the view from the start of my walk yesterday,up alongside Blackden brook and up onto Kinder scout....Its a great route, one of the best.
Jasper likes to scout out his neighborhood. Luckily, the rather horizontal trunks of some mesquite trees provides a good place to plant the paws.
Scout, who lives in Australia and is Peter's best friend, got a scooter from him as a present. Today, Scout is using the scooter for the first time and has asked his friend Aurora to go for a ride with him.
SCOUT:
How nice is this Aurora do you think so too?
AURORA:
Oh...yes...Scoutie...I love it.
Can I hold you a little tighter, because I'm a little afraid of falling off the scooter.
SCOUT:
Of course you can
I'll try to go a bit harder
After a while.....
AURORA:
Shouldn't we go back to Daddy? The sun is setting and it's already getting dark.
SCOUT:
You're right! We'll go to the Magic Portal one more time and then we'll go back to Daddy
Thank you so much www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/ for using the picture of Scout in my photomontage
Found this red wood ant (formica rufa) in my mother in laws backyard at easter. Feel free to drop by my Facebook page for more pictures. www.facebook.com/GauteFroysteinPhotography

SCOUT: "Paddy! Paddy!" *Frightened.* "Paddy wake up!" *Shakes Paddy roughly.*
PADDY: "Wha.. what?" *Wakes up.* "What is it?" *Looks around.* "Scout! You are crying! What's wrong/"
SCOUT: "Oh Paddy! No!' 8buries his face into Paddy's chest.* "I had a bad, bad dream!"
PADDY: "Evidently you did, Scout!" *Cuddles Scout.* "What did you dream about?"
SCOUT: "I dreamed about Peter! You know my allerbeste vriend Peter, don't you, Paddy?"
PADDY: *Rolls eyes.* "Of course I do, Scout! We all know Peter. What was it you dreamt about him?"
SCOUT: "Oh Paddy! It was soooo real! In my dream, my allerbeste vriend Peter heard a knocking on the door of the Magic Portal in Mummy Marian's garden. Curious as mijn beste vriend Peter is, he went to see who is knocking on the door."
PADDY: "Who was there, Scout?"
SCOUT: "Well that's just it, Paddy! he thought it was me, wearing a scary looking black hood!"
PADDY: "Well it couldn't be, Scout. You don't have anything black in your wardrobe!"
SCOUT: "Exactly, Paddy!"
PADDY: "Plus, you were asleep... dreaming... err... about Peter seeing you."
SCOUT: "I know!"
PADDY: "What happened then, Scout?"
SCOUT: "Well, then mijn allerbeste vriend Peter called my name and then he screamed, and then, it went all black... and... and then... I woke up... and then I woke you up!"
PADDY: "There, there Scout." *Gives Scout a big little bear hug and a snuffly kiss.* 'It was only a dream. Let me wipe away those tears." *Wipes Scout's eyes with paw.* "I'm sure Peter is fine."
SCOUT: "But it was soooo real, Paddy!"
PADDY: "Dreams, especially bad ones, always seem so real, Scout. But I'm sure Peter is fine."
SCOUT: *Sniffles.* "Do you really think so, Paddy?"
PADDY: "I do, Scout. Peter will be having fun playing hide-and-seek with Aurora and begging mijn beste vriend Oleg to come and play."
SCOUT: "Oh I hope so, Paddy!"
PADDY: "Come snuggle down with me and I will tell you a faerie tale to help you go back to sleep."
SCOUT: "Oh thank you, Paddy." *Sniggles down next to Paddy under the covers.*
PADDY: "Once upon a time..."
My bears Paddy and Scout have made very good friends with two bears in Holland called Peter and Oleg www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/galleries/721577154558... and www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/galleries/721577233464... and their Mummy Marian Kloon (on and off) . Oleg and Paddy are very similar and have become best friends. Peter and Scout are very similar, so they have become best friends too. Peter heard a knocking at the Magic Portal in the garden at Mummy Marian's and he went to answer it. he thought it was Scout, but it wasn't. The question is, who was it? My Paddington Bear came to live with me in London when I was two years old (many, many years ago). He was hand made by my Great Aunt and he has a chocolate coloured felt hat, the brim of which had to be pinned up by a safety pin to stop it getting in his eyes. The collar of his mackintosh is made of the same felt. He wears wellington boots made from the same red leather used to make the toggles on his mackintosh.
He has travelled with me across the world and he and I have had many adventures together over the years. He is a very precious member of my small family.
Scout was a gift to Paddy from my friend. He is a Fair Trade Bear hand knitted in Africa. His name comes from the shop my friend found him in: Scout House. He tells me that life was very different where he came from, and Paddy is helping introduce him to many new experiences. Scout catches on quickly, and has proven to be a cheeky, but very lovable member of our closely knit family.
OTIS: "Look, the snowdrops are blooming! It reminds me that it`s March and our Australian friend Scout`s Birthday!"
PAT: " Isn`t strange that they know the Scout`s Birthday!"
ODESSA: "Nature is very smart and doesn`t forget anything, even birthdays!
So, we can continue our tradition and send to Scout lots of snowdrops, birthday hugs and kisses!"
PAT: " Odessa, don`t forget the honey jars!"
ODESSA: " Oh, yes! No!"
Singing together:
Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday, dear SCOUT!
Happy Birthday to you!"
On our last night in Longboat Key, Florida, we just grabbed our cameras and walked down the beach. We had so much fun taking pictures of these Brown Pelicans fishing.
Judges 18:2 āSo the sons of Dan sent from the total number of their [extended] family five brave men from Zorah and Eshtaol, to scout the land and to explore it; and they said to them, āGo, explore the land.ā They came to the hill country of Ephraim, to the house of Micah, and lodged there.ā
Kahuna peers into the lowering rays of the setting sun as he scouts the dirt walkway along Vine St., two houses away. The pair of properties between my house and Vine are both surrounded by chain-link fence, as mine is, so Kahuna can watch any activity along Vine through the fencesāpeople walking their dogs after work, and the occasional horse and rider. He keeps pretty good tabs on the neighborhood :-)

A photo from Saturday morning closer to sunrise. Before the sun had reached the inversion in Edale Valley.
Loved the mix of warm and cool light on the frosted heather.
Scout Cave is in Snow Canyon State Park near St. George, Utah. It is about 100 feet deep and 50 feet tall. The view from its mouth includes a residential neighborhood all the way to distant mountains.

An old shot from a few years ago. A wonderful sunset looking towards the downfall on Kinder Scout.
Struggled to compose a foreground, but the conditions were fantastic.
SCOUT: "Hullo everyone! Look! Look at me! I'm a pretty princess with a purple crown! When I saw these pretty purple rhinestone pegs on Daddyās desk, I was determined to get my paws on them! They make great accessories for dress-ups. Look! I made a crown!" *Preens.* "Do you think I look pretty? I do!" *Preens more.* "Who wants to play princesses with me?"
The theme for "Smile on Saturday" on the 23rd of March is "clothes pegs". If you follow my photostream, you will be familiar with Paddy (my Paddington Bear whom I have had since I was two years old) and his friend Scout, as they often feature in stories and adventures on Happy Teddy Bear Tuesday and sometimes other days of the week, such as this photo for todayās theme. This is Scout, and Scout likes getting dressed up and playing make believe, especially in furs and as a member of royalty! He is very ingenious and resourceful, as is demonstrated by the crown he is wearing, which he has created using some rhinestone covered purple clothes pegs that formerly were mine, but now are undoubtedly his, and a lilac satin ribbon. I hope you like my choice of the theme this week, and that it makes you smile.

One from the archives from seven years ago.
20th November 2024, the cloud higs the hills around Kinder Scout in the Peak District on a bitterly cold morning
Another side project in between commissions. The sculpting was finished a few weeks ago, but I finally got around to painting it.
I never liked LEGO's scout trooper helmet, the proportions and positioning of parts were all wrong. I was originally going to make this a decaled figure, but decided to sculpt it all the way. Knowing that walking around in Endor's mud is no clean task, I dirtied the boots and weathered the gun to make him look like he's seen a speeder chase or two.
The speeder is based off of BrickDoctor's speeder from ages ago, modified for my own interpretation. I figured if I was going to make a nice scene with this guy, it just wouldn't be complete without the speeder.
I'll post a video review after I post Rey's soon. So as always, expect more, and I'd love to hear your thoughts!

This is one of many cabins that scouts use, its situated by a lovely lake.
I guess, and hope, that there has been lots of fun in this area when they have been visiting
