The Dorset Foundry at Poole, soon to be demolished as part of the West Quay redevelopment... I wish I'd thought to photograph it earlier, before the great arched windows were boarded over. The facade is decidedly wonky, and there has been generous use of iron plates and bands to reinforce the walls on the left (well, it was an iron foundry).

"I must not leave the truth unstated, that it is again no question of expediency or feeling whether we shall preserve the buildings of past times or not. We have no right whatsoever to touch them. They are not ours. They belong partly to those who built them, and partly to all the generations of mankind who are to follow us. The dead have still their right in them..." My trains are always late. . .

One thing about my work schedule that I am NOT liking, is that my boss has been putting me on the schedule for open (4:14AM) 4 days a week! I should be grateful because Saturday, I get to sleep in and be at work at 4:45am! After doing that for 4 days in a row, I get pretty tired when I get home on Saturday! Pretty tired is not the word, I HIT A WALL! This week has been long and hard! But, I knew that going out tonight was not going to be an option, and I knew that I still wanted my 365, so I took it on my way to work this morning. When I left home, it was raining, but I live far from work, and there was time to get to a no rain spot. Then again, when I got there to this spot, it started to rain while I was exposed. SO, I ran to the back of my car and got my $5 Walmart umbrella. (SO grateful I bought one) Saw my first shot, rain drops on the lens! DARN, I knew I was early, but doing an additional 3+ minute exposure was not what I had in mind. But, I did it any way. I even adjusted the AV, the first was just a bit intense. By time the second shot was done, the rain was coming down pretty hard. This is the second shot, out of two for the entire day. When I got home, I took a nap while my man and child went food shopping.

If you look TOO close at my shots, the grany look at the bottom, in the black portion, was from where I wiped off the rain drops off the lens, and it left some wetness still. At least it was in the black.

Tomorrow off to the PMA2010, I am VERY grateful for a chance to go, and hopefully sometime during the day, I will meet a flickr friend who will be running around DIsneyland. There may or may not be a sunset involved, but I will get a light trail if all else fails. :) I do love a good light trail.

The event was scheduled to be a 10K cross country run; unfortunately Area I weather of late has damaged the course so nearly 60 runners took to the roads of Camps Casey and Hovey on July 27.

On hand to make the award presentations was the Commander of 1st Brigade Special Troops Battalion Lt. Col. Mark Danner.

Even though this was an individual competition, Danner could see the fellowship among the runners and he liked what he saw during the contest.

β€œEsprit de corps… fosters unit pride… we can’t ask for anything more for our Soldiers,” said Danner. β€œThis is an example of what we’re all about here in the 2nd Infantry Division.”

Schedule workbooks for delivery on a regular recurring schedule

Proposed run schedule. For cross training each hour of cycling or mtn biking is equivalent to 5 miles of running. Rest days will include either walking or cycling because I am bad at rest days - but no running on rest days, generally.

An intact and well preserved heavy anti-aircraft (HAA) battery to the south west of Lavernock Point, South Wales. The battery was scheduled in 1995 and is "of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of World War II anti-aircraft and coastal defence practices."

It is often incorrectly described as Lavernock Fort, this anti-aircraft battery dates form the Second World War, while the coastal artillery fort, operational from 1870, is now almost completely obscured by the holiday park which now sits on the site. See my other album with images of what remains of the fort.

There were four heavy gun positions, in two pairs, each would have held a 3.7in quick firing (QF) gun. Two of the positions are the standard pattern reinforced concrete, octaganal in shape, with six ready use ammunition lockers. The remaining two positions were of simpler earth bank construction. The front (sea facing) walls of the emplacements have been fitted with steel doors to allow for depressed firing of the guns in an anti-ship role.

References are made to a 40mm Bofors gun being on site but I don't think this had a fixed position and may have either been sited on one of the 3.7in positions or in the mobile role been deployed on its road carriage.

A sunken magazine for bulk ammunition storage is between the two concrete positions, surrounded by a blast wall. Inside there are five bays that would have stockpiled ammunition to resupply the guns above.

The command post is the most interesting of the structures. Semi-sunken, the seven room building would have served as the command and control centre fo the battery as well as a rest area for the crews when not manning the guns.

There are a few bays on the outside of the command post which would have mounted equipment such as a range finder, height finder, and other instrumentation.

All structures have been recently secured and access isn't possible with the exception of the command post where a panel has been removed and it's possible get inside.

I wasn't scheduled to stumble upon a free day trip to Frederikshavn, but I did. :D Not that I knew what to do there or anything. I found this park with red deer and fallow deer in it. They were captive, but the park was huge. As a visitor you were in there with them.

(I wonder how that works out in the fall, when I hear the red bulls want to KILL EVERYTHING. 8D *googles* Oh, a nature photographer says they're not too aggressive to people, but that you still feel small when they're close. Heh.)

Then I rambled on to the beach and picked shitloads of neat sea shells. #kicks

Calisaya Blues is an historical play of magic realism by Louis Maistros, based on his acclaimed novel, The Sound of Building Coffins. It is directed by Deveney Marshall, and is scheduled to debut at The Valiant Theatre in Arabi for this year's InFringe Fest New Orleans.

Calisaya Blues is the story of Dr. Jack, a Storyville era abortion doctor, who keeps an appointment with prostitute Hattie Covington to advise her of the pros and cons of his "cure." Dr. Jack's assistant, young Typhus Morningstar, has been charged with the disposal of the tragic results of said cure -- and there is a magic in his method. Diphtheria Morningstar, Typhus' older sister, is Hattie's friend and colleague who offers her comfort and support during this troubling time. A tragedy of the heart yields redemption of the strangest kind in this darkly spiritual drama.

The cast:

Donald Edward Lewis as Dr. Jack

Alexis McQuarter as Hattie Covington

Ryan Etienne as Typhus Morningstar

Deveney Marshall as Diphtheria Morningstar

Scheduled showtimes:

Wednesday, November 15, 7pm

Saturday, November 18, 7pm

Sunday, November 19, 3pm

The Valiant Theatre is located at 6621 St. Claude Avenue.

Special thanks is due Michael Martin for his invaluable role in the realization of this production.

Praise for Louis Maistros' novel The Sound of Building Coffins (upon which the play is based):

"Louis Maistros has written a lyrical, complex, and brave novel that takes enormous risks and pulls them all off. He is a writer to watch and keep reading, a writer to cherish."

β€”Peter Straub

β€œThe Sound of Building Coffins is easily one of the finest and truest pieces of New Orleans fiction I've ever read."

β€”Poppy Z. Brite

β€œThis book sings out in true jazz fashionβ€”wildly inventive, oddly formed yet perfectly made, and never a sour note."

β€”The Anniston Star

β€œMaistros creates a city that is part dream, part hallucination. His New Orleans embodies both the grim reality of a particular time and the city's eternal, shimmering beauty.”

β€”Susan Larson, New Orleans Times-Picayune and USA Today

β€œNo novel since A Confederacy of Dunces has done such justice to New Orleans."

β€”Donald Harington

"The Sound of Building Coffins is a soulful work from a writer of the weird. Maistros does more than make you feel for his characters and their twisted, damaged lives; he makes you want to feel."

β€”Paul Tremblay

This is a shot of a schedule that can be found near many classes in my school.

Photos showing the conditions of Bear Creek Park and Bear Creek shoreline before our cleanup Scheduled for Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM. All the assistance from volunteers and sponsors is greatly appreciated!

This cleanups and several other re are running in April will be in conjunction with the Alliance for the Chesapeake β€˜s Annual Project Clean Stream Event.

Our cleanups are part of an ongoing effort clean the entire stream by 2014 in preparation for the War of 1812 Bicentennial Celebration. (Bear Creek has been noted as one of the highlighted location on the Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail) The creek played a rather significant part in the Battle of North Point which took place on September 12, 1814. The British used the creek to disembark troops in their attempt to capture Baltimore. This important part of our history should not be left the eyesore it currently is.

Remember, there plenty of ways for volunteers to participate. We will need every type of person of every ability level to contribute and assist with the Clean Up. Though it is true we will need people to dig out shopping carts and haul trash to the dumpsters, we can use people to run water, food, tools, and trash bags (both empty and full) to individuals in the creek. People to sort recyclables from the debris removed. People will be needed to work the grills as well as many other less strenuous activities. We are also authorized to sign-off on Community Service and Service Learning Hours for students. The more people we have, the easier the work will be for everyone. Please feel free to pass this information on to other who might be interesting in helping as well. As my grandfather always said, β€œMany hands makes the work light”. We run our cleanups as a family event with all age groups welcome by developing plenty of ways for volunteers to participate.

You can learn more about us through our website at: www.BreadandCheeseCreek.org become our friend on FaceBook, Google+ or follow us on Twitter and/or join the Clean Break and Cheese Creek Group. You can also see photos of our past cleanups on Flickr and our videos on YouTube. You can also subscribe to out Electronic Newsletter.
