After traveling to Montreal in 2014 for Eurokracy, I’ve always wanted to return. But due to a busy schedule last year and some last minute plans changing, it didn’t happen. For 2016 though, it all came together and I was amazed at how the event has evolved in just two years to be the amazing weekend that it is now! The annual Chennai Book Fair organised by the Book Sellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI), is back, with the dates of the event being announced. According to sources, the 38th edition of the exhibition is scheduled to be held from 9 January to 21 January at the YMCA Physical Education College Ground in Nandanam.
The applications to the book stalls, which are expected to be over 500, are yet to be issued. Sources say that the 2015`s event would consist of fewer stalls as compared to previous years, as the width of the walkway is to be increased, and that there would be one less row of book booths.
The 12-day long exhibition is regarded as the second largest book fair in the country with books of various authors and publishing houses on offer. Over the years, the event has been widely praised for its visitor-friendly arrangements which include adequate first-aid options, sanitary and parking facilities and refreshment counters.

History[edit]
The First Madras Book Fair was organized in Madras between December 14 and December 24, 1977, by The Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India(BAPASI), an association with major publishing companies of Tamil Nadu, especially Madras, & South India.[2][3][4] The first Madras Book Fair had 22 stalls and was held at the Madrasa-I-Azam school.[4] The first six book fairs were successful mainly due to the efforts of K. V. Mathew of BI Publications, who was responsible for the growth of the book fair in its early years.[4] Mr. Mathew has also organized an annual book fair for students.[4] The Student Book Fair, however, hasn't been as successful as the Chennai Book Fair.[4]
The first four editions of the book fair were held in the Madrasa-I-Azam school. In 1981, the book fair moved to the YMCA grounds in Royapettah, Chennai. The 1982 edition was organized at the Drive-In restaurant. The book fairs gradually rose in popularity. At the 12th Madras Book Fair held between December 22, 1989, and January 1, 1990, Tamil translations of WHO publications were put on sale.[5] The success of the Chennai Book Fair prompted BAPASI to start similar book fairs at Udagamandalam, Thiruvananthapuram, Pondicherry and Tiruchirapalli.
The early editions were held in the last weeks of December and ended in the first week of January in order to coincide with the Christmas-New Year holidays. However, in the late nineties, the fair was moved to mid-January to coincide with the Pongal festive season.
Recent editions[edit]
The 24th Chennai Book Fair experienced a spurt in the number of Tamil language publishers the majar role played by the then President Chandrasekar Higginbothams, Secretary Alliance Sreenivasan and the then committee members. Of the 180 publication houses who participated in the book fair, 80 were Tamil publication houses, a remarkable increase since the 23rd fair in which there was only one stall devoted to Tamil publications.[6] The book fair celebrated its silver jubilee in 2002 coinciding with the 50th anniversary celebrations of BAPASI. The fair was held for 15 days instead of the usual 11-day affair.[7] The 26th book fair was held between January 9 and January 19, 2003 and had a total of about 272 stalls.[8] 300,000 people visited the 26th book fair.[9] The revenue was estimated to over Rs. 6 crores.[9] The 27th book fair, inaugurated by the then Tamil Nadu Education Minister N. Semmalai and held between January 9 and January 19, 2004, had over 310 stalls, including 10 stalls allotted for state government departments, with over 200 publishers from all over India participating in it.[9] The 28th book fair was inaugurated by Chennai mayor S. P. Thiagarajan on January 7, 2005.[10][11] The 29th book fair was inaugurated on January 6, 2006 by K. Kalimthu, Speaker of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly and was made of 375 stalls. The fair lasted till the 16th of January.[12] In 2007, due to traffic congestion and the need for more space for the stalls,[13] the venue for the annual book fair was changed from Quaid-e-Milleth Women's College to St. George' School in Kilpauk.[14] The 2007 book fair had a total of 474 stalls.[13] and for the first time, featured works of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi, on an extensive scale.[15] Over 600,000 people visited the 30th book fair.

Muthiah, businessman Nalli Kuppuswami Chetty and Gnani.[19] Second-hand pavement shops outside the fair also did a good business.[20] Book publishers made a cumulative sale of approximately INR 70 million.[18]
34th Book Fair[edit]
The 14-day fair was held at St. George's Anglo Indian School on Poonamallee High Road. The fair included 646 stalls, spread over 1.5 lakh sq.ft. Over 1 million titles were on sale. Book publishers from New Delhi, Agra, Hyderabad, Bangalore and various parts of Tamil Nadu participated in the fair.

Secondly, I have a trip to Madera Canyon scheduled later on this year, and seeing photos like this one definitely gets me excited about my upcoming trip there (it is not often that I see images at places I am able to access). I really like the balance on your picture, between the bird angle and the branch with the little stick coming up too. Browsing the schedule while waiting for my train, I discovered that one of the through trains is named for Franz Anton Ritter von Gerstner, who wrote the first comprehensive study of the American rail industry, "‘Die innern Communicationen,’ which he wrote during his travels in 1838-1839, dying before it could be published. His wife eventually published it in 1842, and it was reprinted in English some years ago. He is significant to Czech railway history because he was involved in building the Ceske Budejovice-Linz mainline.
The World's First Iron Bridge
A cast iron arch bridge that crosses the River Severn.
Opened in 1781, it was the first major bridge in the world to be made of cast iron. Its success inspired the widespread use of cast iron as a structural material, and today the bridge is celebrated as a symbol of the Industrial Revolution.
In 1934 the bridge was designated a scheduled monument and closed to vehicular traffic.

Photos showing the conditions of Bread and Cheese Creek in the Willow Road before our cleanup Scheduled for Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM, All the assistance from volunteers and sponsor is greatly appreciated!
Our cleanups are part of an ongoing effort clean the entire stream by 2014 in preparation for the War of 1812 Bicentennial Celebration. (Bread and Cheese Creek has been noted as one of the possible highlighted location on the Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail) The creek played a rather significant part in the Battle of North Point which took place on September 12, 1814. Both the American and British Troops camped along its banks. It is rumored that the young heroes Daniel Wells (19) and Henry McComas (18) used the stream channel to sneak up on British General Robert Ross killing him with their muskets before being killed in return fire. This important part of our history should not be left the eyesore it currently is.
Remember, there plenty of ways for volunteers to participate. We will need every type of person of every ability level to contribute and assist with the Clean Up. Though it is true we will need people to dig out shopping carts and haul trash to the dumpsters, we can use people to run water, food, tools, and trash bags (both empty and full) to individuals in the creek. People to sort recyclables from the debris removed. People will be needed to work the grills as well as many other less strenuous activities. We are also authorized to sign-off on Community Service and Service Learning Hours for students. The more people we have, the easier the work will be for everyone. Please feel free to pass this information on to other who might be interesting in helping as well. As my grandfather always said, “Many hands makes the work light”. We run our cleanups as a family event with all age groups welcome by developing plenty of ways for volunteers to participate.

The 2.4Ghz project uses a wireless video receiver to hack into wireless surveillance cameras. This device (which is now part of consumers popular products), can be used for wireless surveillance cameras, but it can also be used for parents to monitor their children. Such systems are becoming more popular as they get cheaper.
But what most users of those devices don’t realise is that they are broadcasting the signal.
With the 2.4GHz Workshops participants are invited to explore the CCTV wireless networks of their city by searching and recording 2.4GHz surveillance video signal. The recorded materials is then compiled in a movie of the event.
If I cannot schedule uploads, my uploads will be reduced possibly to just once a day. I can't believe this isn't a basic tool available to flickr members.

Social worker Lisa will sometimes schedule informal meet ups in places such as Pittencrieff Park, Dunfermline for people using justice services.
The outside meetings begun during lockdown but proved popular so have continued. People using the service can meet with their social workers for supervision in a more therapeutic setting.
The TURN group, organised by Fife Social Work Justice Service, offers support, the opportunity to learn new skills and information about further education. It also tackles social and economic difficulties for men in West Fife who have been in contact with the Justice Service.
Background
TURN men's group is for men in contact with Fife Justice Services. It’s available in West Fife with plans to expand to the Levenmouth area.
The aims of the group involve supporting people to learn and use new skills, promote further education, and tackle social and economic difficulties. The learning is broken down into 8-week module blocks which cover a range of topics including physical health, mental wellbeing, cooking skills, employability, DIY, gardening and creative topics.
This enables participants to develop skills and knowledge which will help lead them into employment opportunities, community involvement and volunteering.
The participants of TURN are extremely grateful for the support they receive and are dedicated to paying that support forward to others.
TURN recently completed a creative module where they scripted and produced a seven-minute video detailing their life struggles and shared advice about making the right choices.
The group plan to share this video with local high schools, with it already being well received by various organisations on Twitter.
Due to the success of the group over the past year and its resilience throughout the pandemic, TURN men's group was nominated for an award by COSLA – the organisation that champions council work - under the category of 'tackling inequalities and improving health'.
TURN men's group was the only nomination from Fife Council to be short-listed.

Pevensey Castle is a medieval castle and former Roman Saxon Shore fort at Pevensey in the English county of East Sussex. The site is a Scheduled Monument in the care of English Heritage and is open to visitors. Built around 290 AD and known to the Romans as Anderitum, the fort appears to have been the base for a fleet called the Classis Anderidaensis. The reasons for its construction are unclear; long thought to have been part of a Roman defensive system to guard the British and Gallic coasts against Saxon pirates, it has more recently been suggested that Anderitum and the other Saxon Shore forts were built by a usurper in an ultimately unsuccessful attempt to prevent Rome from reimposing its control over Britain.
Anderitum fell into ruin following the end of the Roman occupation but was reoccupied in 1066 by the Normans, for whom it became a key strategic bulwark. A stone keep and fortification was built within the Roman walls and faced several sieges. Although its garrison was twice starved into surrender, it was never successfully stormed. The castle was occupied more or less continuously until the 16th century, apart from a possible break in the early 13th century when it was slighted. It had been abandoned again by the late 16th century and remained a crumbling, partly overgrown ruin until it was acquired by the state in 1925.
Pevensey Castle was reoccupied between 1940 and 1945, during the Second World War, when it was garrisoned by units from the Home Guard, the British and Canadian armies and the United States Army Air Corps. Machine-gun posts were built into the Roman and medieval walls to control the flat land around Pevensey and guard against the threat of a German invasion. They were left in place after the war and can still be seen today. Pevensey is one of many Norman castles built around the south of England.
