The California Palace of the Legion of Honor (often abbreviated Legion of Honor) is a part of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (FAMSF). The name is used both for the museum collection and for the building in which it is housed.
The Legion of Honor was the gift of Alma de Bretteville Spreckels, wife of the sugar magnate and thoroughbred racehorse owner/breeder Adolph B. Spreckels. The building is a three-quarter-scale version of the Palais de la Légion d'Honneur also known as the Hôtel de Salm in Paris by George Applegarth and H. Guillaume. It was completed in 1924. An hour walk from town brings one to a site of excavated tombs and a display of statues and statuettes in a forest reserve trail.

Every continent seems to have a spectacular waterfall which inspires wonderment and awe. So it is with Victoria Falls on the frontier of Zambia and Zimbabwe. There is a thunderous roar as the waters of the Zambezi carve a huge gorge. The mist can be seen from many miles away.

After a night camping at Lake Naivasha, a fresh water lake in the Kenyan line of Great Rift lakes, I proceeded on the road with the Scandinavian group that I had joined a couple of weeks before. As we travelled through the the Rift Valley in their Land Rover, Mt. Logonot appeared on the horizon. We found a dirt track off of the main highway which led towards the volcano. It was not long before we were on an adventure.
