This interesting piece of older Hanley stands surrounded by more modern constructions. "The Woodman" pub includes an appropriate sculpture high above the main entrance. A few years ago, the former Ansells pub closed to re emerge as a "Scruffy Murphys" type of venue. Closure followed again, and a year or so ago, was re opened as "The Love Shack". I'm not sure what that implied, but this was rather short lived, and the establishment is currently (29 June 2010) closed again. The notice along the side reads "Whisky Bonders licensed to sell Spirits Stout Beers General Provisions"and has been in situ for many years.
Emerging from Goodson Street into Old Hall Street is First Potteries Scania/Wright 60202 (Y346XBN).

Look above ground floor level and you often see architectural wonders - here's another in Stoke town centre. Though the ground floor is still used as shops, the first and second floors have long been boarded up. The centre pediment shows the date 1899, and underneath the centre window is a stone carving showing that this is "Jacksons Buildings". The more modern building to the left was once the site of one of Stoke's many pubs and a large statue of potter Colin Minton Campbell. The building dates from the 1960s when it housed a new type of store: Tesco - Home & Wear, a non-food outlet of Britain's now biggest retailer.
Hanley bound, passing through Stoke-upon-Trent town centre on 9 July 2010, is First Potteries 61239 (S689BFS) a Scania/Wright Axcess utralow.
For many years the X64 Hanley-Shrewsbury service was operated jointly by PMT and Midland Red North, running 2 hourly each day. In recent times FirstPMT relinquished their half of the operation, and Arriva began to operate the X64 on an improved hourly basis. The service still operates hourly, but the "X" part has now been dropped, and the service operates as 64 between Shrewsbury and Market Drayton, and 164 between Market Drayton and Hanley. .
The usual buses are Scanias with Plaxton Paladin bodies. 3427 (R427JTW) is seen on the final leg of the 164 leaving Newcastle for Hanley on 9 March 2010.

65732 (YN05HCY) from the first batch is heading towards Newcastle on 19 March 2010.
