(for best detail, view at least large) This low groundcover has sensitive fern-like leaves which fold up when touched. It produces this characteristic pink "puffball" about an inch across. Not only is it beautiful and entertaining to children, it can be substituted for traditional lawn and can even be mowed like grass. It's environmentally friendlier than sod, because once established requires no fertilizer, pesticides, or irrigation. (Less expensive, too.) If you live in Georgia or Florida and are tired of being a slave to your lawn, consider replacing some of your sod with this pretty little plant. We did, and we love it.
