This is not my photo. It is by gilintx, via everystockphoto.com, but I wanted to upload this (used along with the article making the announcement) because rain barrels are being offered for sale by the Metropolitan Sewer District of St. Louis in an effort to go green, save water, and take the burden off of the creeks and the storm system. I just ordered one and can't wait to pick it up!

Water, one thing that we struggle and strive so hard for... one thing we really care the least to preserve.

I remember when it was 7 years back on 1999 the government of tamilnadu "requested and recommended" rain water harvesting system for all newly built houses. No one gave a damn, 3 years ago they made it mandatory to have rain water harvesting system for all newly built houses otherwise the CMDA will not approve the building plan. Off to the corners run these losers consulting for rain water harvesting systems, thanks to this the city is a better place now after implementing this.

Duh! It's been almost 60 years since the British have left India but still the slave mentality of Indian's hasn't gone away. We still work fearing the lash of the whip rather than cherishing the luxury of the reward the effort gives. I hope my children and grand children wont carry this dirt in their minds and think positively and make this country a better one for their tomorrow.

Plans to protect air and water, wilderness and wildlife are in fact plans to protect man. The fate of the living planet is the most important issue facing mankind. When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world. If we go on using the Earth uncaringly and without replenishing it, then we are just greedy consumers.

Every day we experience weather changes and world catastrophes caused by global warming, erosion, and other ecological changes the Earth has experienced over the past century. Complete rain forests have been destroyed, never to grow back. The planet is dying – poisoned by all the toxic waste and pollution we have released upon it.

It is time for all of us to do something to save what little is left of the planet’s resources, to try and give back to the Earth all that it has given to us. For our children and their children, we must change our ways so that future generations have a cleaner world where they can breathe unpolluted air and drink clean water.
