This new librairy in Marseille was designed by the architect Adrien Fainsilber. It replaces L'Alcazar, a famous concert and comedy venue in Marseille. Only the monumental door and the "marquise" that shelters it, were preserved from the old building. The front of the building is made of sandwich panels : a sheet of glasse, a thiun slice of white marble and a second sheet of glass. This construction allows the natural light to penetrate the building, but filtrates the rays of the sun at the same time. Bibliothèque de l'Alcazar, designed by Adrien Fainsilber, Marseille 2003
La marquise abrite le club des fumeurs invétérés. Comme devant tous les bâtiments tertiaires, on rencontre désormais à toute heure un groupe plus ou moins grand, selon les moments, qui doit sortir pour en allumer une.
The North American X-15,designed to provide data on material and human factors of high-speed,high-altitude fligt, made the first maned probes into the lower edges of space. It was built for speeds of up to 4,000 mph and altitues of 50 miles, but thesae goals were exceeded on numerous occasions.Several North American X-15 pilots earned "astronaut" rating by attaining altitues above 50 miles. The North American X-15 flight program contributed signifcantly to the mercury project,Gemini project, and Apollo project.
The North American X-15 was carried aloft by Boeing B-52 Stratofortress and was released at about 45,000 feet and 500 mph.Its rocket engine then fired for the first 80-100 seconds of flight. The remainder of the 10-11 minute flight was powerless and ended with a 200 mph glide landing on a dry lake bed.
The first powered North American X-15 flight was made on Septmber 17,1959,and 199 flights were made between 1959 and 1968 by the three North American X-15s that were built. The number #3 North American X-15 was destroyed in a crash. The number #2 aircraft was retired.
North American XB-70
-------------------------------
The North American XB-70,one of the world's most exotic, airplanes, was conceived for the Strategic Air Comman (SAC) in the 1950s as a high-altitude bomber that could fly tree times the speed of sound (Mach 3).Because of fund limitations, only two were built, not a bomber, but as research aircraft for the advanced study of aerodynamics, propusion and other subjects releated to large supersonic aircraft.
The North American XB-70 Valkyrie was built largely of stainless-steel honeycomb sandwich panels and titanium. It was designed to make use of a phenomenon called "compression lift," achieved when the shock wave generated by the airplane flying at supersonic speeds supports parts of the airplane's weight. For impoved stability at supersonic speeds, the North American XB-70 Valkyrie could droop its wingtips as much as 65 degrees.
The number #1 North American XB-70 made its initial flight on September 21,1964,and achieved Mach 3 flight on October 14,1965.The number #2 airplane North American XB-70 first flew on Jule 17,1965,but on June 8,1966,it crashed following a mid-air collision. The number #1 airplane continued in its research program.

Frisomat creates the Giant Fridge in Romania. The client, Meat Broker, was looking for an industrial building to accomodate a storage room for meat products. Since Frisomat can guarantee a near-to-perfect insulation thanks to its sandwich panels, the choice was quickly made.
The Ceptra hangar is 20m wide, 41m long and 8m high. The sandwich panels in the ceiling are 150mm thick, on the sidewalls 30mm and on the roof 40mm. The entire building will be assembled in approximately a month.
The coating of the facade, seen here from the back with its supporting beams, is made of sandwich panels : one sheet of glass, one very thin slice of marble, one sheet of glass. It protects from the direct glare and from the heat of the sun, while letting in natural light.
Le revêtement de la façade de la bibliothèque de l'Alcazar est fait de panneaux composés d'une couche de verre, d'une tranche de marbre très fine et d'une seconde couche de verre. Bibliothèque de l'Alcazar, designed by Adrien Fainsilber, Marseille 2003
Experimental House, Almere, NL - Jan Benthem Architect -
The house was designed for an ‘unusual homes’ competition held by De Fantasie in Almere. The brief was to design a house without taking into account current building regulations. All prize-winners were awarded a plot of land on loan for five years. This meant that the house and its foundations had to be easy to dismantle. In the compact house, the living room is bounded on three sides by glass sheets to gather the surrounding landscape into the house. Sandwich panel walls enclose the private zone comprising the two bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom. The extraordinary construction of the house combats wind pressure in three ways. The space-frame floor structure is attached to a foundation of concrete slabs, stabilizing fins are placed strategically at the seams of the toughened glass sheets and finally two steel tension cables secure the lightweight profiled steel roof borne aloft by the glazing.

- Kopron sandwich panels have the characteristics of normal structures but are far more advantageous: they need very little masonry work, they are flexible, easy to install or uninstall, easy to move, they can be widened or divided upon request in little time, they are cheaper than other type of structures and comply with all regulations and standards regarding earthquake, fire and structure stability.
The excellent thermo-acoustic insulation makes them ideal for creating working areas.

The sandwich panel is made by a professional sandwich panel machine, which is widely used in various fields. It has many advantages, such as lightweight, strong fire resistance and easy installation. In the classification of the sandwich panel, the most common one is to classify by core material. So what are the characteristics of different core materials used in sandwich panels?
1. Polystyrene (EPS) foam sandwich panel
Polystyrene (EPS) sandwich panel, also known as foam sandwich panel, is an organic material, it has the characteristics of heat preservation and insulation, lightweight and convenient installation. It has been widely used in recent years. The disadvantage is that the foam sandwich panel is relatively easier to burn.
2. Polyurethane sandwich panel
Polyurethane sandwich panel is composed of upper and lower layer colour steel plates and middle foamed polyurethane, which is one of the building materials widely used in the construction industry and has good insulation, heat insulation and sound insulation effect. Many people often mistake the foam sandwich panel for a polyurethane sandwich panel. PU sandwich panel is made by polyurethane sandwich panel line.
3. Rock wool sandwich panel
Rock wool sandwich panel is a new type of fireproof plate with the strongest fire resistance performance in the sandwich panel series. It is made of natural rock, blast furnace iron slag, etc., which are melted into the wire at high temperature, and then solidified. Rock wool sandwich panel meets the secondary fire protection requirements of a clean workshop and is the most ideal structural decorative plate for indoor ceiling and activity room construction. It has a fire resistance of 600 ℃ and the fire-resistance rating reaches A level.
Rock wool is made of high-quality basalt, dolomite and other raw materials. After meeting at a high temperature above 1450 ℃, it is made into fibre by high-speed centrifugation. At the same time, it is sprayed with a certain amount of binder and hydrophobic agent, collected by cotton collector, solidified and cut through pendulum process and three-dimensional cotton laying, forming rock wool products of different specifications and uses. Rock wool is a kind of inorganic thermal insulation material with low thermal conductivity, class A non-combustible and good chemical stability. It is the main core material of a clean colour steel plate. Rock wool sandwich panel is made by the machine Rockwool.
4. Glass cotton sandwich panel
Glass wool of glass wool sandwich panel is a kind of man-made inorganic fibre with a diameter of fewer than 6 microns, which is made by melting minerals such as lime and quartz powder in the furnace, high-speed centrifugation or spraying, and then made into various products by moulding equipment. The main glass wool sandwich panel are: glass wool plate, glass wool tube, glass wool felt three series. This product has a series of advantages, such as low thermal conductivity, small bulk density, stable chemical properties, non-ageing, non-combustible and so on. Its construction performance is good, easy to cut and process, no site loss, no harmful gas, stable long-term performance.
5. Extruded polystyrene (XPS) sandwich panel
The extruded polystyrene sandwich panel is a rigid foam plastic board with continuous closed-cell foam, which is injected into the catalyst with polystyrene resin and polymer under heating and mixing, and then extruded and sealed. The inside is an independent closed bubble structure, which is characterized by high compression resistance, low water absorption, moisture resistance, air permeability, lightweight, corrosion resistance, super-ageing resistance (long term use almost no ageing) and thermal conductivity. Environmental protection insulation materials with low and excellent performance.
The extruded polystyrene sandwich panel is widely used in drywall insulation, flat concrete roof and steel roof insulation, low-temperature storage ground, low-temperature floor auxiliary radiation heating pipe, parking platform, airport runway, highway and other fields of moisture-proof insulation, control ground frost heave, is the current construction industry of good quality and low price, good quality heat insulation, moisture-proof materials.
