The ICON UK 2018 conference took place in Birmingham Thursday 13th and Friday 14th of September 2018.

ICON UK is the former UK Lotus user group. It’s focused on the IBM Collaboration Software platform (IBM Notes/Domino, IBM Sametime, IBM Connections, Websphere etc).

The speakers are IBM customers, users and partners, as well as from IBM and HCL, the new partner who is doing the development of the ICS portfolio.

It was a fun conference, with a lot of useful stuff. I delivered my lecture “30 tips about IBM Verse,” IBM’s webmail and calendar interface.

Here are the photos from this year’s event.

This little guy is a male Rose-Breasted Grosbeak. I took this photo this morning out my dining room door window, I only cropped off the top just a tad, I was going to try to get a little wider shot so I could include the rest of his tail but this guy was REALLY close to the Window and my camera, I used my 12-60mm lens pressed up to the glass so he was only about 2-4" away from the camera. If I backed up or moved to much I was thinking that he would fly away.... as it turns out he didn't.

My mother-n-law got my wife this little bird feeder that hangs by 2 little suctions a few weeks ago, My wife decided to hang it on our french doors that face the back of the house.

So this morning I wake up to my alarm clock going off like I do most days, For some reason I thought today was sunday so I kinda just took my time getting out of bed..... So I walked from my bedroom toward my kitchen area I walked by the french doors in our Dining room like I do just about every morning, Only this time, this little bird was sitting there and decided to smack the glass with his beak which made this lound bang noise. Thinking back now it probably wasn't all that loud, but it was when I walked by the door and I was standing in front of the door...... It scared the CRAP out of me. LOL So after that little incident I remembered I had to go Pee and at the sametime I realized I was late for work and it was monday. So I guess thanks for scaring the S#@!* out of me Bird.

If you want to check out some more info on these birds check out this site.

i swear, i didn't photoshop my hand on top of the pic. i was there. as i sat there, with my feet dangling, in the last few minutes that machu picchu was open that day, it felt almost like i could touch it. it felt somewhat surreal. at the sametime i knew i was looking at something spectacular. turns out that not too long after it was voted as one of the top ten new wonders of the world.

what was even more interesting was that we got talking to these people there, a group of retired americans that accompanied a scientist on his studies of machu picchu. they were telling us how the guides there were describing stuff that wasn't entirely accurate; that many aspects of the site such as the stones were more precisely cut and more ancient than the general site. i have since forgotten the name of the scientist they mentioned and also what they specifically said, but it was interesting to know that my feelings about the site are shared. it is a mysterious place.

On the bus, i saw this student right out the window. He is ridding on his bike at the sametime trying to dial a text message! Amazing.

Her "M" face is very sexy, rather seems getting hurt, she seems yawning.

(That's the facial expression that made men think "no means yes"! )

"No, I don't like this. It don't feel good..." isn't it confusing if you get those word from this facial expression? Gee, Kaiyodo designers are genius to think this deep...............

Which is perfect for her charector: a queen. She seems careless of opponent's attack and faked her "getting hurt".

At the sametime this face fits her class, the upper class-- to be attitudinizing, but here, in a nice sexy way. This face and the plan face is my favorate 2 face of Menace, which I found a bit difficult to add something extra but not to ruin it's own well balanced beauty. So, here I just emphasis the original facial expression a bit and add Egyption makeup, that's about all.

The lyric of the Star-Spangled Banner has been stuck in my head for a while. Not the whole song, mind you, mostly just the first few lines. Last month, for my son's so-called Moving Assembly, whereby he graduated from kindergarten, I helped him memorize the lyric to the National Anthem. But the first line of the anthem has always been a special one, for the punster in me. I have heard many jokes about "Jose, Can You See?"

A few weeks ago, my company hired a guy named Jose, in TamPa, to replace a position in higher-cost-of-living northeast. I was asked to train him but I happened to be in the midst of a major project rollout so I passed the task to someone else. My colleague Saq showed this Jose guy the rope via SameTime meeting and phone. Jose pinged me a couple of times on SameTime as well, asking this and that.

In my spare time at home, I maintain the group floor plan, which for each person in the group, shows either a photograph or a cartoon that I drew, along with their full Lotus Notes name, phone extension, and which network environments that they specialize in (roughly, anyway). Last weekend, I finally had the time to try to include our friend Jose in the floor plan. I was going to just list his name, with the remark as "TamPa" and his phone number. However, the company phone directory didn't list his phone number. Monday morning, he wasn't on SameTime, so I emailed him. Later in the day, I learned from a Team Lead that NE management was trying to contact him all day, including getting in touch with his consulting company, but to no avail. Tuesday, it was finally learned that he actually already quit the Friday before - supposedly he got a better offer elsewhere and didn't bother give us the two-week notice. (Personally, I find the whole thing about two-week notice just pure B.S. How is it that when a company can fire you at a moment's notice, but you have to give them two weeks?)

"Jose We Can't See, Where Were You On Monday?" That perfectly describes our situation this past Monday!

One of two Ford Explorer taxis. this one had eluded me for years. Never saw it until I saw it in Max's flickr shots and he only visited the city for a week or so, what are the odds?? actually I saw it at about the sametime. Max's shot (aka the new taxiguy) was taken at about the same time. I shot this on 3/15/2010
