It is said, “Canadian contributes the Banff and Jasper National Parks to the world, but keeps the Kananaskis park for themselves”. Kananaskis park is a provincial park, not as famous as Banff and Jasper. But there is comparable Rocky Mountains and lakes. It is a very quiet place, no people around, nice trails to walk around the lakes and mountains, really enjoyed the most at this peaceful and quiet place! The photo was taken on the backyards of the camping sites. The walks were great with awesome views of the lakes from the back of camping sites.
I finally got around to asking this very Amazing and Patient person to marry me and she said yes <3 .

I said I was going to get some fresh air this weekend - and I did. I may even have gotten an overdose when I went to the West Coast during the storm on Sunday. But I did manage to take some pictures. This is the first one - I still need to process the rest, but I'm sure I'll find one or two more that are worth sharing.
An extract from this morning's Journal:
Up at 5 this morning and out in the safari vehicles before dawn. Our guide promised us two male lions; much excitement. As he searched we came upon Kudu, Impala, Springbok, Zebra, Eland, Baboons, Vervet Monkeys, Hartebees and any number of raptors and smaller birds.
Over the radio the other guide said he'd found two lions resting by the road at the top of a rise. By now the sun was just above the horizon and the lions were catching the first of the morning warmth.
We arrived to find two safari vehicles with the lions. We circled around them at a safe distance, the low angle of the sun on their faces was perfect, I couldn’t stop taking photos.

It's said that once the babies hatch, the male leaves and lets the female fend for herself. It was evident here. At one point the mom took off to get food for the young ones and left them alone.
For this shot, we laid on the sand for a good amount of time and didn't move till the mom trusted us. She didn't mind we were this close. Only a couple of photographers walked to this spot to see the colony.

Like I said before... there is nothing "common" about a Common Loon.
When he flapped his wings after preening, I was lucky enough to catch this series of this extraordinary bird.
He was busy catching crabs and at times fighting with another bird in breeding plumage who repeatedly tried to drag him under and drive him across the water. Soon that relented and they began to tolerate each other. I think their hormones levels are high at this time.
I felt at peace as I lay down and watched these two birds go about their business. They couldn't care less about our presence as they swam closer and closer and directly to us. It was a magical moment as our faces met. Even in the moment I couldn't stop from saying "Wow". They cried out their wailing calls several times to each other. I never tire of that sound. I felt blessed to be in their presence.
Whenever life gets tough, getting out in nature and with the birds just lifts me back up again. This is especially true when I get to spend time in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with my favourite person and one of my favourite birds, the Common Loon.
The Driver said to shout "STOP" if I see anything interesting. so I did and so did he. End result, this stunningly beautiful Grey Kestrel.
Walk with me through a peaceful canyon by a stream, surrounded by winter’s charms, and when we wake we’ll dance to birdsongs of spring…

The Wooden Pole on the Peak District's Longshaw Estate is said to stand on the site of an ancient pole. You can see the pole itself in the distance in the top right corner of this photo. Although periodically replaced by the National Trust, who now own the land, the original pole is believed to have served as a way marker/guide post on an old packhorse route and may also have marked the boundary between the villages of Hathersage and Holmesfield. Whatever its original purpose, it occupies a commanding position beside the A6187, and yet many visitors to the area drive past without even noticing it. However, its status as a landmark gives the whole area of countryside surrounding it the name Wooden Pole.

Beachy Head Lighthouse is located in the English Channel below the cliffs of Beachy Head in East Sussex. It is 33 m high and became operational in 1902. Beachy Head was built to replace the 1834 Belle Tout Lighthouse on top of the cliffs. For 80 years it was manned by a crew of 3 lighthouse keepers at any time - I hope they received a good pay, as it seems to have been a less-than-ideal job. In 2011 the operators said they could no longer afford painting the lighthouse white and red, but a funding campaign helped keep the distinctive colour of this historic landmark.

Louvignies Castle
Louvignies castle is said to owe its origin to a tower built in the 8th century, the Tour des Sarrasins. This tower would have been used to keep an eye on the traffic on the road from Brunehaut.
In 1716, the estate passed into the hands of the current owner's family by marriage. The current Louvignies château acquired its final appearance in 1875, after eight years of renovation work by Count Léon de Villegas de Saint-Pierre and his wife Ferdinande de Maillen. Count Léon gave up his diplomatic career in 1880 to become mayor of Louvignies.
The castle has 60 rooms and houses a wealth of family portraits, works of art, furniture and curiosities from the 19th century.
Countess Albertine de Villegas, the last descendant of the de Villegas de Saint-Pierre family, had no children. She adopted Jean-Marie de Moreau de Villegas and left him the chateau when she died in 1971.
Today, Florence de Moreau de Villegas de Saint-Pierre owns the chateau.
A few times a year, the castle opens its doors to the public.

Het huidige kasteel van Louvignies kreeg zijn definitieve uitzicht in 1875, na een verbouwing die acht jaar duurde onder impuls van graaf Léon de Villegas de Saint-Pierre en zijn echtgenote Ferdinande de Maillen. Graaf Léon gaf in 1880 zijn diplomatieloopbaan op om burgemeester te worden van Louvignies.
Het kasteel telt 60 kamers en herbergt een schat aan familieportretten, kunstwerken, meubelen en rariteiten uit de negentiende eeuw.
Gravin Albertine de Villegas, de laatste afstammeling van het geslacht de Villegas de Saint-Pierre, had geen kinderen, zij adopteerde Jean-Marie de Moreau de Villegas en liet hem bij haar dood in 1971 het kasteel na.
Momenteel is Florence de Moreau de Villegas de Saint-Pierre eigenares van het kasteel.
Een paar keer per jaar opent het kasteel de deuren voor het publiek.
