They celebrated the opening of the newest Greek Orthodox Church in New Jersey this morning near the town where I live. I'm neither Greek nor Orthodox, but I wasn't about to miss the opening of this new church which I drove by on the way to work for the last couple of years.
The ceremony for the Byzantine church was celebrated by Metropolitan Evangelos of New Jersey and the parish priest the Rev. Andrew Eugenis.
Much of the ceremony was in Greek, so I can only say "It's all Greek to Me!" I assume that they were praying to God to protect the church and keep it safe from evil vampires, werewolves and, of course, turks and other creatures of the night.

Since they put double stick tape under the battery inside the battery holder, getting the battery out is tough. If you pull too hard on it, you can damage the power connectors.
Slide a slotted screwdriver under the battery towards the back and pry the battery off the tape before removing the battery.

I kind of really want to dye my hair black (and would obviously have to dye my eyebrows a little darker as well...), but I'm too chicken. I have a hair appointment coming up in 2 weeks. I might just play it safe and stay blonde, but I get bored with the same hair for too long.
Cormorants use the wreck of ill fated SS Alkimos to await the incoming storm.
The SS Alkimos is said to be haunted, and has a tragic history of several unfortunate occurrences....

This is my latest wood working project. I call it a mailbox safe since I feel putting a coin slot in the top and calling it a bank would ruin the look of the wood. It is made of red oak (3/4" I think). It was sanded down to a final grit of 600, burnished and then finished in tung oil (the bottom looks as good as the rest of it if you are wondering). The mailbox cover is from the town of Bushton KS and holds a particular significance to me in that it was where the mail was sent to my grand parent's implement shop. In other words if you sent in a check for service on your tractor or combine... that my grandfather had performed. it was most likely picked up by my grandmother from this very mailbox. The mailbox front itself is stamped 1957 and came with a card indicating its combination and reading, "National Lock Box Company, Inc."

This house has been unoccupied for years, with the curtains closed (and gradually rotting in place) and the windows now decaying at the frames. The locals call this the "MI5 Safehouse"

This is my feeble attempt at the abstract. Some may even call it art. I actually didn’t creat this but I “found” it and photographed it. This is actually metal plate welded onto the front of a safe. The repair was necessary to patch the damage thieves made to get the money out. It was stolen and opened by thieves. The police found the safe but not those responsible. My father-in-law welded on the patch and created this artwork. I guess he is the true artist.
The MTA and the Office of Worcester DA Joseph Early brought together educators, social service providers and law enforcement professionals on May 28, 2015, to learn about opiates and gangs and explore how educators can help with these issues in schools. The program is part of an NEA grant to build relationships between schools, parents and communities to keep schools and students safe.
