As part of the Nuneaton artist, Jo Gane's "Liquid Silver" photographic exhibit at Compton Verney, the windows of the room have been covered with a red film which gives this intense effect. (You can see the natural light leaking in a little at the lower edge of the window.) This installation has been called "Safe Light".

The Berchtesgaden monastery was founded in 1102 as community of Augustinian Canons by Count Berengar of Sulzbach, a friend of Henry V. The Canons felt nor safe and comfortable in the wild, wooded area - and gave up the place soon after.
They returned with the first Provost Eberwin around 1120 - and started a success story. The monastery became an Imperial abbey in already 1194. In 1380 the provosts achieved the status of an ecclesistical "Reichsfuerst" and in the 1550s they even held a direct vote in the Reichstag assembly as "Prince-Provosts". From the very beginning upto the secularisation of the monastery in 1803 it was open only for the offsprings of noble families, what actually created this political power. In 1810 the territory of the former monastery fell to the newly established Kingdom of Bavaria, so that the House of Wittelsbach could finally transform the monastic buildings into a summer palace.
The former collegiate church "St. Peter and St. John the Baptist" serves as a parish church since 1803.
The most important piece of architecture (for me) is the cloister. Most of the structure survived all the time, and even when the House of Wittelsbach converted the provostry into a summer palace, the old closter stayed untouched. The style of many works here is very rough and differs from the sophisticated works seen an St. Zeno, less than 20 kms south. The motifs and symbols found here are very graphic.
This large capital differs from the rough style first seen (mermaid), but as well of the style, the many horizontal "swimmers" and lions were carved in. It is masterly carved - and this head is just another detail. I had the impression, that he casted an eye at me, but I had to leave him alone - and left the cloister.
A tremendous finale to the Blacksburg Red's Summer/Fall 2011 season.

Antelope Island's marina offers safe haven from winter storms for a handful of boats. Seich waves, driven by the strong winds, can be damaging because of the dense salt water of the Great Salt Lake.
Natasha had to go to the vet for her annual check-up yesterday. She hates the cat carrier and it didn't help that it was pouring rain! She's healthy except for her teeth which need to be cleaned, so the vet had to draw blood. She's such a little thing they had trouble finding a vein and she came out with bandages on both back legs! She wouldn't come near me so I could remove them when we got home, but my son eventually picked her up so I could pull them off. She finally settled in this chair in the family room and was still there 4 hours later when I got back from the nursing home.
Safe havens were built for pedestrians crossing the tracks in the space between rails. It also makes for a great place to safely stand and shoot trains.

Before nineteenth century, when iron safes became common, people used hiding places to defend their valuables and papers. Were common secret drawers or compartments, frequently found in furniture such as chests, bureaux, writing-tables, cabinets, etc., of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
Italians cabinet makers excelled in the art of producing secret compartments and hidden drawers.
In this video a secretaire with many little secret compartments and hidden small drawers.

I have been using this for a while and it's doing a good job of cleaning my clothes. So once I use up my liquid laundry soaps I'll be using this exclusively. It will save me using plastic and adding to the already over-flowing landfill sites. I also use the Ecos spray cleaner and it's really powerful. I like that and Mrs. Meyers products.

Located at 124 East Main Street, this Streamline Moderne bus station and half-way house was built in 1938-39 using the designs of architect W.N. Van Powell. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.
The "half-way" name reflected its role as a rest stop at the midpoint of a longer trip. In the Waverly station's case, it is located at the approximate midpoint of U.S. Highway 70 between Nashville and Jackson in Tennessee.
