I understand that the spruce planation on this site was felled about fifteen years ago. The stumps and discarded timber are rotting well, providing homes for all sorts of invertebrates and food for birds such as the green woodpecker.

The March issue of the magazine of the Scottish Wildlife Trust celebrates 50 years of the SWT. it contains an article on otters mentioning road mortality has now become "the biggest non-natural threat" and describing the return of the otter to the British landscape as " a wonderful story".
