A CN train working the yard in Effingham, Illinois, has backed up as far north as the Amtrak station and await a signal at the diamonds with the CSX St. Louis Line to go back into the yard.
Guilford train WJED, led by GP40's Maine Central 306 and Boston & Maine 332, leaves the New England Central for home rails at East Northfield MA. With the rebuilding of the former B&M Conn River line, Amtrak's Vermonter will pick up where the Montrealer left off, and switch over to this route after almost 25 years of running via Palmer. The changeover is scheduled for December 29th 2014.

From a slide from the early 1970's - Two Penn Central switchers have just crossed the Boston and Maine diamond crossing adjacent to West Concord Depot. They are on track which the Penn Central inherited from the New Haven RR. The line was originally the Framingham and Lowell RR.Conrail abandoned this line. The BM tried operating a portion of it with their Springfield Terminal subsidiary for a while but even with shortline work rules and wages the line lost money. In Chelmsford this line is a paved bike trail, in other places it is either abandoned or is a dirt trail although there is some construction on this line in parts of Acton. The semaphore in the picture protects the diamond crossing from PC southbound trains.

One of the many great things about short line railroads is that many of them have not replaced these massive station name signs. Class 1 railroads often seem to replace these with smaller signs at either end of the station (or siding). But, not the case here in Holyoke, CO as a westbound manifest actually makes a reverse move to the east by the sign on the main track. If you look beneath the Holyoke sign, you can see the conductor, riding on the rear boxcar, protecting the reverse move back toward the remainder of the train.

Wendy Carlos, ‘Switched-On Bach’, 1968. A million seller from, then, Walter Carlos (who underwent a sex change in 1972). Simple idea: Bach tunes played on the newly invented Moog synth. Kitsch, futuristic, this album helped open the flood gates to electronics in music. She went on to do the soundtrack for the original ‘Tron’ movie.
The Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT (350D) uses this switch to tell it that an external flash unit is mounted. If the switch is depressed, the camera will not pop up the onboard flash and will not fire the onboard flash even if it is popped up.

I don't understand how the people working at target not notice this at ALL? REALLY? These girls aren't even TIED TO THE DAMN BOX! People do all sorts of nasty things, but this is just so low. I've reported this numerous times at different locations, but some asshat just keeps getting away with it...-__-
