At the Scheidplatz square is a major interchange of the same name from bus to tram to subway.

Here we are on tram tracks while in the distance one line 12 tram is about to leave (away from me, just to state that).

Spring is, by far, my favourite time of the year. The switch from the dark, cold and often wet days to brighter, warmer and more dry days is absolutely wonderful.

Here I love the contrast between the dead branches in the front, the young, green birches and the…umm…beeches? in the background against the sky with the clouds. It produces a nice layering effect and everything just looks so fresh.

For switcher Sunday we see 2 former PRR SW's (a 7 and a 9) leading a westbound local on what was PRR's 4 track main through Canton, Ohio in December 1981. It's about to be overtaken by one of the many trailer trains on the 4 track main that was still in place through town. The building to the left was a Fisher Foods warehouse that clearly still provided some box car business. The freight cars are as cool as the power is blue.

A local crew works the tight quarters of the Louisville & Nashville team tracks in Frankfort, Kentucky. Today, things aren’t so tight. There is only one track and the station has been razed.

Spent part of my Sunday walking through the wonderful beech forest at Ekedalen. This shot is made by 4 portrait photos stitched together to get a wider shot and to make sure at least parts of the tree tops are visible. It was my first visit there, but for sure not the last...

DL BR-1 is seen with their power split as they switch Valley Distribution in South Scranton.

Powered by colorful EMD GP18 No. 600, Toledo, Peoria & Western’s Morton Switcher arrives at Morton, Illinois, on a snowy December 16, 1983. Merry Christmas to all!

Fifteen years ago today, DMIR 207, 413, and 416 lead a single car from the UP interchange through Saunders, WI on their way home to Proctor on Oct. 16, 2005. Fall color ran over a week early this year and is all gone here south of Superior in 2020.

The Missabe ran this Steelton Switch on Wednesdays and Sundays out of Proctor over the Interstate Branch (now CN's Superior Sub.) to interchange with the UP at Tomco/South Itasca. I followed this job almost all day on this particular Sunday, and they would have about 10 cars for the UP before returning with this single car, which is probably heading up to LP in Two Harbors. This train used to be longer when more bentonite came off the CNW for the pellet plants but by this time it seemed like the BNSF had most of this business. This was the second fall of CN ownership of the DM&IR and the Steelton Switch wouldn't last much longer.

BNSF’s Sandpoint local has finished switching empties for the Pend Oreille Valley Railroad at the east end of the yard in Sandpoint at Boyer, Idaho, on September 26, 2021. As an eastbound BNSF stack train curves by on the main line, the power will soon head west in the yard to pick up interchange from POVA before heading back to Spokane.

Busy afternoon around US Steel's Granite City Works as we found 4 switch engines banging around within a 30 minute period. The 1191 was grabbing empties from the interchange yard to distribute around the complex. This yard is also switched by the NS and TRRA.

In the summer of 2003, one could still find a SD9 or two assigned to Alliance, Nebraska, that were used for switching the yard there. Late in the afternoon of July 21, 2003, Burlington Northern Santa Fe EMD SD9 No. 6128 switches coal gons at South Yard.

After starting my day on the Mattawamkeag Sub with NBSR, I then cut across to Greenville to try and lens the rail train working the Moosehead around MP 36. They were dumping out around Squaw Brook for the whole morning and into the afternoon when they would meet 250. As luck would have it they took paper from the West siding switch Moosehead to Jackman immediately after the meet. With the sun fading I knew I wouldn't be getting anything at Parlin, but as I came around the corner on Route 15 at Demo Rd I knew I had them. The sun was nearly head on, if not for that there was no hope, the sun was getting incredibly low in the sky. Veteran SD40-2 5936 was doing the honors with SD60 6258 trailing.

The Everett Railroad switches out their yard in Hollidaysburg, PA. Powering the train is a GP16 that's been down here for decades along with a newer B32-8 acquired from Norfolk Southern.

Chesapeake and Delaware RB-1 pulls an empty boxcar out of Extech Building Materials north of Farmingdale, NJ. They'll shove back north to their train before continuing south to Lakewood.
