Today the weather is bad a usual. But during the past weekend it was just wonderful. We spent the weekend at Lake Steinhuder Meer near Hanover and it was perfect weather for taking photos.

Surprise today with a pair of swans at the mouth of the river. Caught this one in a brief ray of sunshine in an otherwise cloudy and showery day.

Getting feather details on these all-white beauties can be a challenge. But get the right light and angle and the results can be very pleasing.

There were two swans in the Caledonian Canal and I was delighted to see this one. They such beautiful animals. I enjoyed my walk out to the point and back it was a good stretch and it was nice to see so many birds.

The population in the UK has increased recently, perhaps due to better protection of this species. The problem of lead poisoning on lowland rivers has also largely been solved by a ban on the sale of lead fishing weights. Some birds stay in their territories all year, while others move short distances and form winter flocks. In cold weather, some birds arrive from Europe into eastern England.

The mute swan is a species of swan, and thus a member of the waterfowl family Anatidae. It is native to much of Europe and Asia, and the far north of Africa. It is also an introduced species in North America, Australasia and southern Africa.
