GW "Manor" 4-6-0 no 7802 "Bradley Manor" looks very smart on a rake of chocolate-and-cream coaches at Bewdley on the SVR at the 2006 Steam Gala.
No 7802 was built at Swindon in 1938 and was first allocated to Old Oak Common. From 1946 on 7802 worked from Cambrian line depots, and was withdrawn from Shrewsbury shed in November 1965. After languishing at Barry scrapyard for 13 years it became the 109th loco to leave Barry for preservation in 1979, moving to the SVR for restoration.
R3380. The Great Western diesel railcar now at Didcot was once on the Severn Valley Railway. In April, 1969, I photographed it at Bridgnorth.
GWR 2-8-0 2800 Class locomotive 2857 approaching a dull Kidderminster station(SVR) on 10.25 Bridgnorth - Kidderminster service on 01/01/2015
Class 17 D8568 passes Eardington with the 11:27 'local' from Bridgnorth to Hampton Loade on 3 October, 2024. The Class 17 was substituting for Class 14 D9551, which had been sidelined with a broken spring.
Summer Along The Valley. A series of photographs taken along the Severn Valley Railway during July and August 2019. Ex-GWR heavy freight locomotive, 2857 (28XX, 2-8-0) hauls the mid morning service train through Northwood and on to Bridgnorth.
A trip ‘up North’ for some tractor action! 37264 departs Kidderminster with the 1645 to Bridgnorth.
"Pendennis Castle" crossing the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal on Falling Sands Viaduct at Kidderminster with a train from Bewdley.
GWR Hall class 4953 'Pitchford Hall' in BR lined black at Arley Severn Valley Railway Autumn Steam Gala 2021, southbound from Bridgenorth to Kidderminster.
Left to right at Bridgnorth M.P.D. are 43106, "Raveningham Hall" (moving off shed) and "City of Wells".
Ticking over with it’s characteristic whistling sound, 40106 waits to leave Highley with the 13:00 Bridgnorth-Kidderminster service on 4 October, 2024 during the SVR’s ‘Autumn Diesel Bash’. Following the failure of D9551, this and Class 25 D7628 were the only locomotives working at the event in BR green livery. A sign of the times, perhaps, with fewer enthusiasts remembering the green diesel days?
Bulleid Light Pacific West Country Class No.34027 'Taw Valley' at Dowles Junction (Tenbury Wall) when it was painted maroon. Scanned slide.
A mate wanted a few tips on using his DSLR so I dragged the poor bugger down to the Severn Valley Railway
A run many will have had on their ‘to do’ list at the SVR ‘Autumn Diesel Bash’: Class 25s D7628 (25278) and 25262 leave Kidderminster with the 10:55 to Bridgnorth on 6 October, 2024. Both ‘rats’ were visitors, green D7628 from the NYMR (which it rarely leaves) and blue 25262 from the South Devon. The pair sounded as good as they looked! The picture was taken from the loco depot during one of the excellent tours of the facility.
