I know this much: that there is objective time, but also subjective time, the kind you wear on the inside of your wrist, next to where the pulse lies. And this personal time, which is the true time, is measured in your relationship to memory. - Julian Barnes,

Whenever people suffered the difficulty in real life, they either faced the challenge with courage or hided themselves in their secret garden temporarily, made their sophicated thoughts within, and then find way to breakthrough again.

Have you ever own your secret garden ? It could be a real place in the world , or just a mental place at your mind, which made yourself feel safe & help you calm down from the suddently sufferings in real life.

Try to create the secret garden through the overlayering composition, it can be a place mixed with variable emotions, happiness, sorrow, hate, sadness, peaceful etc, not necesarry a subjective garden in vision, maybe just a private corner under the tree, on the meadow, or even the space between the leaves & air.. tell me how you think about your secret garden.

This is my idea of a fine art image though I am probably merely deluded and jaded at that. After all, what makes art, art? It is highly subjective. For me it is the ability to take a common, mundane object or setting and lift it to the level of magnificent. Keep in mind that photography was not actually considered art for many years. All other art forms are brought forth from the ground up solely by the internal vision of the artist. A photographer, on the other hand, works with objects that already exist in their own right. He merely presents them in the best possible way. To be artistic a photographer has to somehow abstract the subject by various means so that the resulting image is no mere record of what was actually seen. Otherwise all you have is a snapshot, no matter how skilled you are with the technical aspects of photography. This is why people fall in love so easily with monochrome. By removing the element of color, everything is automatically abstracted because we normally do see everything in color. The production of art is now more easily accomplished. I worked with black and white film for decades before I decided to try my hand at color. I still love it, but when I turned to color a few years ago I was astonished at how difficult it suddenly was to make an interesting image. I’m still learning as you can see, but I love the challenge! Cheers.

Just a note regarding my camera. I’m using my Nikon D5200 at the moment as it turns out weather sealed is subjective as my poor D750 will testify to. It’s in Nikon hospital getting a new AF system fitted as salt water has ruined it. I’ve now bought a rain cover which would have saved me a lot of money in hindsight A fool and his money are easily parted.

That was the claim made by a friend who was fiercely holding on to a position of faith. It is generally true, that at a certain point we just must take a position, subjectively, willingly or not. However, what when these various subjective absolutisms collide with each other? The Talibans are "subjective absolutists" for example. Then, my friend says, we need to exercise our individual absolutism with tolerance and kindness. Sounds good. But where do tolerance and kindness come from? Neither Christianity nor Islam have a convincing record when it comes to the treatment of others or of people thinking differently. According to the logic of both religions, only God is absolute - man is relative. This basic principle makes a 'tolerant' exercise of subjective absolutism really difficult. In other words, the profound problem here is not subjectivity, we all have got that, the problem is "absolutism". We all hold positions - absolute they are not.

I’m going to take a stab at addressing an emotional aspect of photography. When something special is happening there are a myriad of emotions that fight for space in my cranium. “Please, please move this way”. An interloper who could get in front or behind your subject comes into the scene. “Don’t you dare!”. “How can I photograph this”. “Do I have enough shutter speed, is the ISO too high, should I change my position, how else can I record this? “ I often verbally coach my subjects, at least in my head. They don’t hear me but it helps me do what I do. Now this image was one of those fleeting special moments. Lions greeting each other with golden/orange sunlight behind them. I was excited and got quite a few shots the action for the very few seconds it lasted. But it’s one of the last one’s I’m sharing because, and here it comes, I’ve had a very hard time processing it. This is my fourth attempt and I’m happy with it but still think I’m leaving something on the table. I didn’t do much but did try to bring your attention to the lion’s breath. I’m not baiting compliments. On the contrary, for this or any of my posts I very much appreciate your courage to share what you don’t like or offer suggestions. It’s all subjective and my vision is clouded by authorship, so feel free. I’d be interested. (Panthera Leo photographed in Zambia) (Sony a1ii, 200-600lens @ 444mm, 1/2500 second, ISO 640)

Manmade backdrops can (sometimes) wreck an otherwise good shop

They can also enhance an otherwise 'average' shot

It's all a question of taste of course

Photography has it's technical side but in the end it's a subjective pastime

I've seen and admired terrific shots taken with a simple phone device

But anyway., this one most definitely falls into the latter average shot/enhance category

This is another image I created by moving a refuse bin in order to get the road to appear black/red. This little tactic attracted a few comments on a previous image and I got couple of private messages about the image too. I would have liked to have taken a picture of the wider environment at the time but sadly I do not have a wide angle lens and I have refused to adopt modern culture by adopting a mobile phone. Whilst the mobile phone is a great invention I very much subscribe to the Christopher Hitchens view of cell phones in his alternative 8th commandment (Google it). I managed however to find an image of the location on the internet and I have provided a link below. Whereas most of my images were taken in the back street the red road images were taken on the main road at the junction with the back street. I simply dragged the bin out into better light. I think in this image the bin was sitting on a narrow pavement so instead of blocking traffic I was blocking pedestrians. Whilst it is a little cheeky of me, it is surprising how accommodating the public including car users can be once they realise what you are doing. I was not over the moon with this image but a friend requested a large print of it so I emailed it to him and he informs me it is stunning...just shows I'm a bad judge...or maybe he is....all subjective in the end!

PS if anyone would like to send me a cell phone for Christmas I will happily express my anger at it...please make sure it has a good camera in it. Init!

My friend, Skye Donardson, created this gorgeous underwater utopia. It boasts everything you could want to get your mermaid on. Magic... check. Whimsy... check. Color, lots of glorious color, check check check. Being a sim owner myself, I know the challenges of creating a space that not only appeals to my own inner artist, but will appeal to the masses as well. When all is said and done building and creating spaces in Second Life IS art and we all know art is a subjective wench. Not everyone will like what I like and I realized this as I was building my own sim. But I can almost guarantee that most people will enjoy Skye's Mermaid Garden. I will admit I took artistic license and embellished this piece, I mean, I've yet to encounter a fish in Second Life that blows bubbles. Still, the beauty, the color, the sparkly glamour, the whimsy is all Skye. So, get your inner mermaid on and go visit!

Suprematism is an early twentieth-century art movement focused on the fundamentals of geometry (circles, squares, rectangles, triangles). The term refers to a form of abstract art based on the supremacy of pure artistic expression rather than on a visual or literal depiction of objects. It is entirely subjective and gives room for the artist to present what they think or perceive versus what they may see.

1961 Plymouth Belvedere two door hardtop.

Plymouth did its best to persuade buyers that its mid-level Belvedere had everything that a family could want in a new car in 1961: Beauty, (the name belvedere" is Italian for "beautiful sight" or “fair view) performance, economical operation, and, most important of all, room for everyone to stretch out and enjoy the ride. "Belvedere is big and roomy and comfortable. Important? You bet!" the brochure declared.

Beauty is nothing if not subjective; styling trends come and go, though it is fair to note that the full-size Plymouth's styling was polarizing when it was new--and that's being kind.

That leaves the "big and roomy and comfortable" selling point. And on that count, the Belvedere is a winner, 6 adult passengers could fit easily on it's roomy bench seats.

Montferrand Castle is located in the Hérault department (France). The first phase of its construction began at the end of the 11th century, around 1085. It was successively owned by the Counts of Melgueil, the Count of Toulouse, and then the Bishops of Maguelonne, who assumed the title of Count-Bishop from 1215 onwards.

This photo of the castle is a little unusual because, although I used the standard RAW format with a view to subsequent colour grading, I did not opt for one of the photo profiles offered by my camera (which can be fully modified in post-processing) but for an S-Log profile, in other words a setting reserved for video colour grading.

I was curious to see how Lightroom would interpret and process such a profile. In the end, after spending some time adjusting my settings, I didn't really get a ‘cinematic’ image, but the hybrid result is (subjectively) interesting.

The contrasts and colours on the vegetation in the foreground have a cinematic feel, while the rendering and sharpness of the walls are more photographic in nature, and the rather strange sky seems to have remained mostly in the ‘negative’ state of the raw S-Log, despite my colour processing.

Would Countess Almodis have liked this surreal vision of the castle?

***

I'm currently listening to a lot of audio books on various topics. I really enjoy broadening my horizons and breaking out of the subjective "thought prison". I think that the image fits very well when you consider how you are sometimes so limited in your own thinking and actions 🤔
