another fish story..."the one that got away". I you look closely in the middle of the frame you will spot a moose. A moose that sprang out of no where posed majestically with the Grand in the background then disappeared. ONE LITTLE PROBLEM the biggest lens in the bag this morning was a 50...nice 80-400 in the truck about 1/2 mile away damnit! I suppose you all have similar stories, if so lets hear them.

There are so many reasons I love books, but my number 1 reason is that you create the imagery for the story from the author's words. It's interesting how differently we all can interpret the same set of words. So many ideas... Books can be dangerous to your sleep needs.

365 day 336

In a discussion thread on Compositionally Challenged, James taught me how to improve a photo I wasn't happy with. He advised me to get an external flash with a soft box. I bought an inexpensive one and today I finally had some time to try it out. First impression: I can do a flash that doesn't look like a flash, in low light, without causing red eye! Yippee! Thank you, James.

Here, Felicity Frogg is reading a story to Charlie and he is getting ready to turn the page for her.

[Zen Story]

The Moon That Could Not Be Stolen

A Zen master, lived the simplest kind of life in a little hut at the foot of a mountain. One evening a thief visited the hut only to discover there was nothing in it to steal. Zen master returned and caught him by surprise. He told the thief, “You may have come a long way to visit me, and you should not return empty-handed. Please take my clothes as a gift.” The thief was bewildered. He took the clothes and slunk away. Zen master sat naked, watching the moon. “Poor fellow,” he mused, “I wish I could give him this beautiful moon.”

How would you like your life to be remembered when you are gone? How would you feel if someone found your abandoned house and what would your items say about your life?

Deep in the Welsh countryside, hidden amongst the trees lies this house frozen in time, piled to the high with belongings of its former occupants. As I carefully looked through the items, it took me back to the lives of the old woman who seemingly had been wooded by her husbands, an old photo of a greying lady with her friends, but no man by her side. Even older photos in black and white of a young solder and then a touching find. A wedding card to a Dick and Emily fromStuart and Joyce and then next to it a golden wedding anniversary card from the very same people 50 years later. It gave me a huge sense of melancholy and happiness, a couple who had lived a lifetime together for over 50 years, but then the pain one of them must have felt living in this lonesome country house without their lifetime lover.

Further exploration relieved segments of their past lives, gas masks, letters, birthday cards, the lady was clearly a very fashionable lady who cared for her appliance, with a bedroom full of makeup, perfume, elegant clothing. As we left the house as we found it, the memories to continue to shy away in the darkness, I felt a sense of happiness that someone had got to enactor their beautiful lives once more.

One of my favorite pictures, taken in 2010

makkah - Arafat -hajj 2010

The first thing that caught my eye was the big Argiopes aurantia spider in her classic zipper web. Then I noticed the meal she had packaged up ((upper left corner). And finally I noticed the brave, but cautious, male Argiopes in the lower right corner. I don't know for certain how this story will end, but it's possible there will be one less male spider when all is said and done. These big females are fond of consuming the males as a post-coital snack...
