This trio of buffleheads were about to land until they saw me.Then decided to abort the landing at the last second
This was a shot I was going to use in my Animal Encounters story but I decided not to.
Here a noise in the bushes distracted the Heron but it was just a squirrel!
As I'm still waiting for comp to be fixed I thought I'd post it now. I will be back commenting when I can.
The birds, this was purely a perfect photographic moment. The beach was empty on a beautiful day and it was full of seagulls. I loved it, CVS ruined my film a little bit but I kinda like it this way.

Enjoy!

Sturnus vulgaris taken in my garden in Wigan, Lancs. during the first UK-wide Covid-19 lockdown. This Starling looks like it should be called a Startling!! Whatever it's looking at it doesn't look very impressed.
Changes are taking place in our boreal forest as we transition from summer to autumn. This bunny knows that he too will transition from his brown fur, to his snow-white winter fur, as he looks at the changing colors of the grasses that surround him. HSS!

Thanks to all who have taken time to view, comment, and fave my photo - I truly appreciate it.
this is actually the next frame after the earlier shot of the tern with the ghost crab....the crab darted into its hole, and the tern did this.
St Ives, Bingley 04/01/2001. All photos taken on my morning stroll. Just as a way of doing something different, I've processed them all using a 4" x 5" crop.
What happens when you want to sneak up on a flock of birds and photograph them all taking off, but they fly away before you finish fiddling with your camera settings and you just have to shoot with the previous ones...
I was going to finish the last of my 'raptor kinda day' experience, when after lunch I noticed the squirrel digging in the back yard. I went to the patio door and heard something, looked up and saw what I think is a juvenile Coopers Hawk. The birds all flew away, but the squirrel proceeded up the latice to take a closer look at the hawk, probably not a good idea, but it 'startled' the hawk, flapping it's wings and keeping a close eye on the squirrel as it made it's way by...it was quite funny to watch. I wish I could have gotten the squirrel by the hawk!...best seen large!

Exotic. Startling. A fascinating shape. Like red and gold lobster claws hanging from the foliage. Hard to walk by without taking a picture, especially when the light is highlighting its beauty!
I love the tiny shiny edges of each of these compactly arranged petals. The surface of this colorful beauty is covered with nectar making it very attractive to visiting ants.
The mature plant starts to flower in the summer. Heliconia flowers last a long time and make excellent cut flowers. It is easy to grow in tropical areas but be aware that the stalks can reach 7 feet in height. Bright shade is ideal with good moisture in the air and soil. Heliconias are heavy feeders. Sheltered areas are preferable because strong wind will shred the leaves.

The Northern flicker has a conspicuous white rump patch and salmon-colored wing undersides that are distinctly visible during its slow, bouncy flight.

The Australian magpie (Gymnorhina tibicen) is a medium-sized black and white passerine bird native to Australia and southern New Guinea. Although once considered to be three separate species, it is now considered to be one, with nine recognised subspecies. A member of the Artamidae, the Australian magpie is placed in its own genus and is most closely related to the black butcherbird (Melloria quoyi). Currawongs have yellow eyes, whereas Magpies have red-brown eyes and Butcherbirds have very dark brown, almost black eyes. It is not, however, closely related to the European magpie, which is a corvid. The adult Australian magpie is a fairly robust bird ranging from 37 to 43 cm in length, with distinctive black and white plumage, gold brown eyes and a solid wedge-shaped bluish-white and black bill. The male and female are similar in appearance, and can be distinguished by differences in back markings. The male has pure white feathers on the back of the head and the female has white blending to grey feathers on the back of the head. With its long legs, the Australian magpie walks rather than waddles or hops and spends much time on the ground. Described as one of Australia's most accomplished songbirds, the Australian magpie has an array of complex vocalisations. It is omnivorous, with the bulk of its varied diet made up of invertebrates. It is generally sedentary and territorial throughout its range. Common and widespread, it has adapted well to human habitation and is a familiar bird of parks, gardens and farmland in Australia and New Guinea. This species is commonly fed by households around the country, but in spring (and occasionally in autumn) a small minority of breeding magpies (almost always males) become aggressive and swoop and attack those who approach their nests. Sea Otters were once abundant but relentless trapping during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries resulted in their extirpation from Canada by 1929. Between 1969 and 1972, 89 animals were reintroduced into Nootka Sound from Alaska. I photographed this one at Zeballos on the west coast of Vancouver Island which is quite close to the original reintroduction site. The numbers here have built up impressively and the population now comprises several thousand animals. They are usually quite wary of humans, but they will allow approach to about 50m before they dive to safety. But this Sea Otter was fast asleep with its paws over its ears. We managed to edge up really close before it woke with a start, and then dived. This was that very moment. I took the photograph at Zeballos on the north-west coast of Vancouver Island.

I spotted this buck as I was leaving the park. He bolted as soon as he saw me. There wasn't much light left, but I liked the background and movement, so I took the shot.

while walking and taking pics through the park, I looked up and there he was, I clicked and he looked startled, and so did I, not expecting to see a person high up there. he was taking pictures of the water below us.

Story:
Arkus Noraga received word from one of his underworld intelligence sources of a possible store of Jedi artifacts on Batuu. The contact provided Noraga with the coordinates of a small insurgent cell located in the hills a short journey from Black Spire outpost. In hopes that the locals that formed the insurgent cell would have more specific information on the whereabouts of Jedi artifacts and the imperial occupation of Batuu, Noraga payed a visit to these rebels. Noraga smuggled with him highly valued weaponry through the imperial forces surrounding Batuu to bring the insurgent group in hopes it would encourage them to hand him the information he needed to have a more than successful business trip on Batuu.
Noraga landed 3 clicks south of the insurgent base and moved in on foot so as not to startle the rebels into any unfavorable decision making. The journey on foot took the smuggler through one of Batuu’s many jungles. As he journeyed north towards the rebel base he noticed several looming petrified grey trees, the ancient giants referred to by the locals as spires. The rest of the vegetation in the jungle consisted primarily of green trees that clung to the rocks and grew up wherever possible, almost encasing everything they could.
After a little under an hour of walking Noraga reached the rebel hideout, after lugging the crate of weaponry onto their platform he noticed that the platform appeared to be constructed from some clone wars era ship or machinery, it was old but sturdy and some of the components were still visible. The rebel base was set back in a rock face, it had the green foliage growing up around and threatening to swallow it, from above it wasn’t surprising that the base was so hidden.
The insurgents seemingly appeared on the platform from around the sides of the outpost, clearly having another secret entryway. Upon their seeing the weaponry and hearing the explanation the smuggler had to give they were more than accepting of his terms, they honestly seemed on board with anything that would cause the empire trouble.
